Shadow, 8 months ago (edited 8 months ago) VMs are good for scaling and resiliency to hardware failure, but they’re generally more expensive and with slower IO. Hardware is the best bang for the buck if you’re not concerned about a few hours of downtime if the hardware fails. Long term I could see us moving to container based hosting (k8s behind the scenes) like some other sites are doing.
