That’s a very bizzare question. But, as mentioned on the community. I was a fan of it back in the day, appreciating it’s innovative approach to interactive multimedia at a time I was studying that very subject. I think there is still a lot we can learn from it mistakes and all.
Also there’s a lot of younger folks still involved with the community, by giving them a place on Lemmy to share, and reminisce I feel will benfit lemmy as a whole.
Well creating a new community on a separate instance whould be a good plan B. For the purposes of making it easy to find for new users and not having dozens of dead communities with the same name it makes more sense to me to just use the one that exist. It would also provide a corner stone of users and post. That is unless somone else already made another community for this elsewhere but nothing came up in my searches for it.
From my understanding based on other post on here this is somthing that can be done by the instance mods. If I ask nicely enough.
My bad I assumed the email app my phone ce with was part of Android. Turns our it’s Samsung. I’ll delete the thread as it is I’m the wrong place. Some folks have given me advice regardless.
Ah so it may be possible in the future. That whould be cool. Theres a lot of little webcomics out there struggling to be seen. Somthing like that could really help some of artist I think. And I’d love a platform for getting all the updates on the comics I read all in one place.
I’m having trouble with the “if you need more housing, rewarding development is what you need to do.” Part
From my limited understanding the purpose of a developer is to do speculative research to determine what building ideas they can make a profit off. They pay the builders and then find a buyer for the finished product.
So I can see how removing the gst can help motivate the building of apartments. but is that really the best strategy? It seems like a gamble to me. If it’s still more profitable to build over priced condos they’d stick to that. Having affordable apartments near by those condos may lower the demand for expensive condos. So it may not be in the best intrest of developers to make them, let alone make them last.
We’d need somthing a little more systemic. Somthing not dependent on doing the profitable, thing but doing what is nessary to ensure there is quality affordable housing.
Before being a fan of homestuck I was really into Xenogears but avoided talking about it because rhe Fandom seemed to really want to hypersexualize the whole thing. I just liked the robots fighting and obscure references to 80s sci-fi movies.
I wasn’t aware other people even liken homestuck untill attending an anime convention with some friends.
Everything i enjoy is full of horny people and I hate it.
I am on a beach, in a old lawn chair. the sand is grey. the sky is a deep dark blue. The sun has not risen. It is cold but not freezing. There is no wind.
I am aware of the long dead remains of the other beach goers around me. But I choose not to acknowledge them. I know peace in this moment.
I close my eyes as the sun begins to rise. Though does nothing against the blinding light. I do not see my final moment. I see nothing.
I recently switched my mail/domain from Google to name cheap. I’ve been keeping a critical eye on my junk mail as the spam filtering doesn’t seem as good....
I see. I think this is that case. It was in the spam folder. So it sounds like the new mail service is doing all it can here.
I’d also gotten a few fake Amazon fliers form like “vape demon69 dot com” which somehow didn’t get marked as spam so I’ve been concerned that the junk prevention may really suck. But at least it seems to be marking the spoofed ones as junk.
Thank you, I had to bug the support line a bit to figure it out, but they agreed I needed to use this guide and helped me out. My inbox is now a little safer thanks to your advice.
Every comment in this post got 1 downvote for literally no reason. Like… it’s a post about cats, nothing controversial at all. Do people just go around downvoting every post? Why?
I suspect this as well. Sorting by new I usually see everything has at least one down vote, it’s not 100% though, otherwise I’d assume it’s just a weird glitch.
An Ontario court ruled against psychologist and media personality Jordan Peterson Wednesday, and upheld a regulatory body's order that he take social media training in the wake of complaints about his controversial online posts and statements.
If this training is like most manditory online training in Ontario it’ll be a shitty slide show made in Articulate. He can skip to the end of and hit done. These are deigned to separate accountability from the organizations and the employees, not actually teach anything.
Well it does say “infront if everyone”. I assumed that also includes coleuages. Co workers are not corporate overlords.
I’m not saying it’s a good thing, it’s another dumb micro ceremony regardless. And if you in a position where you don’t have to play the stupid games then I envy you. But my advice my be of some use for those us poor bastards who need to play along.
Probably like 40-50 my rommate has a weird fascination with them. At some point they brought home a box if like 40 of the cheap ones. I assume it was part if some art thing they planed then never bothered with. Now they are all over the apartment.
Lol no, but they are segragated blades you can use the slot on the back of one knife to break the blade of another. I can at least be less stingey about keeping them sharp this way. As they are cheap ones the blades do not last very long and rust out with even a tiny amount of moisture.
Same. Quit FB a few years ago. Never bothered with Instagram, or Twitter or really anything with my real identity.
However I used FB for nearly 15 years. I got a new job so I wanted to clean as much public facing data as I could, including all the “intrest” FB had decided I had. I’m not sure if its the same now but Facebook used to just keep a list of stuff you where “interested” in based on your browsing history (even outside of FB). Often it was inaccurate. I think ads or somthing whould hijack the algorithm to add whatever they wanted, youd have to clear it out every once and awhile.
After doing this my feed started showing me hate groups, alt right nonsense and images of child abuse material. I realized this meant, that in cases where Facebook had no listed intrest for somebody, this is the ads that it whould use, this was the core of what Facebook was. I nuked the account and never looked back. Honestly, great decision and I’ve never once regretted it.
Being from Kitchener/waterloo I see there’s definetly a student housing issue and it affects the area badly. But also see the proposed solution as blunt and likley ineffective.
With 2 universities and a college that area has it pretty rough with housing. I had to move into my dad’s basement for a few years despite having a good job. I could afford a place but there was no where else to actually live.
Many homes close to the college apprently had 10 people living per room, you see places with like cars filling the parking lot and the lawns. The fire department whould demand evictions but that usually never takes.
The universities have a lot of huge condos and student housing near them but it seems every year we’d get news of one of the buildings not being done on time and hubdreds of student’s ending up having to live out of hotels. This also stresses the transit system and a lot of services. Then waterloo becomes a ghost town in the off seasons.
Of course for non students the cities become a mess of temporary rentals, and explotive landlords. There’s also the massive street parties that whould drain the police force budget.
Now in cases like this I’m not suggesting less student visas but schools need to coordinate with the cities to ensure there is enough housing in the area for the number of students they intend to intake. Though I’m not really sure how to make that fair as KW seemed to favour one school over the others. Keeping this coordination free if blatant corruption is going to take effort and require the setting of some standards potentially on a national level.
Fortunately, there’s been solutions other to this. Remote learning, when available, reduces the stains a lot and is becoming a popular option. It’s cheaper for rhe schools and the learners.
I also know schools have been decentalizing with campus spreading out across the city instead if just having one massive campus. Though this can make things more difficult for staff and learner, often needing a private transit setup. The benefit is that it spreads the housing needs a little and reduces strain on the public transit systems.
However, I still think the best option may be to limit the number of housing dependant students eatch school can take regardless of a visa.
I pretty much only have my domain for my email adress. It’s also a back up plan should my career take another nose dive and I need a portfolio. Gsuite was good for all that.
I’m not quite in the loop with best options for that kinda thing. And I been using the email for contract work for over a decade now. So I don’t want to give that up. Would cloudflare be good for that as well?
Thank you namecheap looks like the best choice for me so far. I’m also looking at a local one called host papa. I may need to export my email history and figure out exactly what my needs are in terms of space. Proton might be a good option there as well if I can keep it at 1GB.
This seems to be an issue here. So many communities but many ofbthem where created by users with no intent if actually managing them. Some of the communities I’m seeing have been built by users who are no longer active.
I can’t say if the kbin.random community is the same. But if we have communities running in pure anarchy then this is an issue which may get much worse.
I have a few interpretations if this based on my limited understanding if it.
I think the oversite committee has to hear him out. Ignoring a complaint from multiple members of military about potential misappropriation of funding would be egregious on their part. So they are listening to everything and trying to be professional about it.
Now the cynic in me believes this is actually a genius way to push pulp. If this guy writes a book (assuming he hasn’t already) he’s just given himself enormous credibility and advertising at little to no cost. Loud enough to be heard but vague enough that he can’t be disproven or take on any accountability.
But the conspiracy theorist in me just sees this as an attempt to discredit and humiliate this and other sub committee’s. Ammo that can be used to try and shut it down or prevent them from more serious work.
Though I’m a Candain and only getting bits and pieces of this story so I’m probably way off base here.
That whould definitely alter my speculations. Assuming we actually hear about anything said during this closed session.
Of course he could walk into the closed meeting room emit a loud 23 second fart, then leave without a word. If the public isn’t privvy to what happens in that meeting he can claim to have said whatever he wants and never get disproven.
