What does natural Black/African Ancestry hair look like, is it an afro?

Obviously there are many ways different hair types can be worn, combed, braided, cut, etc., but is natural, untouched Black/African decendent or ancestry hair an afro like in the 70s or was that styling? I imagine if it is natural, it’s normally like any hair cut shorter to make it easier to manage so that’s why one might...

Thank you, how kind of you to provide these. Looks great!

I got my son the first 3d printer in our entire family - last week. I have already borrowed it to make several things from scratch. TinkerCad is amazing for that.

I am genuinely surprised that you spent “years” before taking this step. Not even making any adjustments to stuff you downloaded?

Way back before USB, joysticks had a DIN-25 connector that was identical to the MIDI network connector.

I blindly plugged my brand new MS Force Feedback joystick into the MIDI network port behind my miditower (yes I’m that old) and watched the magic smoke rise out of the joystick. That was not a good day to learn about plugs. The network carries 50 volts or something. Stick wasn’t happy.

edit: corrections! Here’s a photo of the network card: i.imgur.com/fBJixkM.png

Oh you are right, I misremembered: what actually happened was that I was indeed going for the MIDI port of my SoundBlaster card but found a matching socket in my networrk card!

I will update my comment to correct this.

Fuck everything about religion and the zealots that run it. These people have been killing each other forever so please for once do it right and be done with it, or wake the fuck up and be adults. Fucking pick one.

The rest of the world could either do the same or butt the hell out.

Notepad is reeeally barebones, and that can be a good thing.

Check out Notepad++ if you ever need to work with text data more than just skimming a README file. You will see what these people mean.

I do too! It’s mandatory for guys of all ages to dig holes at the beach. Bonus points for every dad mom boy girl that joins!

I worded this to get your attention (and that worked). Personally I think it’s fine but it does make an interesting question that I want to hear the crowd opinion on.

Also, what do other people do to reduce noise when you don’t have a spare room far away from your bed…? Better rubber feet isn’t doing much in this case.

I’m new to this, but isn’t airflow a bad thing? Dust and uneven cooling of the build?

This cabinet has no door. I should have said so. It’s always open like this, but the wardrobe door is generally closed.

PlutoniumAcid,
@PlutoniumAcid@lemmy.world avatar

I would staple it to the cabinet for easier, cleaner removal later.

‘Podcast Addict’ is an amazing alternative.

And these Google actions are what cause me to my life, finding alternatives for every Google thing I use. Damn you Google, don’t be like that…

Also, you could run Linux off of a real CPU. My experience is that my DS916+ is way underpowered even with 8 GB memory. I use my NAS for actual storage, and an old Intel mainboard w/16GB RAM for actual CPU work.

I still do, but I used to, too.

Can I view sharepoint in the file explorer, or is that only in the browser?

PlutoniumAcid,

I could not make this work; I think the other commenters are right, this does not work.

@PlutoniumAcid@lemmy.world avatar

I tried this and failed: I don’t see any controls in the bottom left, also no “Return to classic SharePoint” elsewhere. I guess the admins have turned that off.

I did find an option “Add lnk to OneDrive” which I clicked. Nothing happened in the browser, but I now do see that folder in Windows Explorer > OneDrive. So, yay, that works.

Now I just have this rando folder at the top level of my OneDrive. I have moved into a subfolder that makes sense to me, and I hope that doesn’t break anything. Edit: well, it breaks my harddrive :-( because it fucking downloads the entire folder contents onto my disk. I didn’t ask for that; that’s what network storage is for! Oh right, they killed that.

@PlutoniumAcid@lemmy.world avatar

I sincerely hope for your sake we’re not in the same boat. This one ain’t fine.

PlutoniumAcid,

Heh, if only I were in a position to change anything. Maybe bosmang should be smarter, and move it from OneDrive to SharePoint. Who gonna explain it to him?

I am not disagreeing with you - but would it not be just as likely that if the horse was not a viable choice, humans would domesticate some other animal - cow, deer, etc.

Imagine warriors come riding on a friggin’ elk!

Does "Selfhosted" mean you actually have a server at home?

I’m trying to better understand hosting a Lemmy Instance. Lurking discussions it seems like some people are hosting from the Cloud or VPS. My understanding is that it’s better to futureproof by running your own home server so that you have the data and the top most control of hardware, software etc. My understanding is that...

The simple way is to Google ‘yunohost’ and install that on your spare machine, then just play around with what that offers.

If you want, you could also dive deeper by installing Linux (e.g.Ubuntu), then installing Docker, then spin up Portainer as your first container.

PlutoniumAcid,
@PlutoniumAcid@lemmy.world avatar

I’m sorry, I don’t understand. It’s the normal Nintendo Switch (OLED) and those two controllers that come with it which slot into the sides.

Thank you; I will check and respond again.

Apparently it’s mostly in one game, WRC 10.

I guess it means the hardware is okay and that one game is crap.

PlutoniumAcid,
@PlutoniumAcid@lemmy.world avatar

Deci is 0.1 and that gets used frequently, deka is 10 and never gets used at all, except in Austria when grocery shopping at the deli counter. 🤷

Hekto is 100 and similarly never gets used, not even by Austrians.

PlutoniumAcid,
@PlutoniumAcid@lemmy.world avatar

Sweden is also the only country in the world to have a sensible use of the word ‘miles’ (or ‘mil’ in Swedish):

10km = 1 mil

They use this a lot when speaking of travel distances longer than 20km.

PlutoniumAcid,
@PlutoniumAcid@lemmy.world avatar

The silly Austrians would ask for “20 Deka Salami, bitte.” It’s weird.

PlutoniumAcid,
@PlutoniumAcid@lemmy.world avatar

How does that work?? Genuinely curious.

His gear is v7 (Unifi and also Synology DSM) and I am still on v6 because I didn’t have a good reason to upgrade. If it works, don’t fix it, you know? Feature-wise there the same anyway just different UI. But sure, give me a good reason to upgrade, and I will :)
