If it didn’t then we wouldn’t be here to ask why.

Elden Ring is a great one, especially with the Seamless Co-op Mod. Besides that, my friends and I used to play Borderlands 2 and Outriders.

Polish Hackers Repaired Trains the Manufacturer Artificially Bricked. Now The Train Company Is Threatening Them (www.404media.co)

The situation is a heavy machinery example of something that happens across most categories of electronics, from phones, laptops, health devices, and wearables to tractors and, apparently, trains. In this case, NEWAG, the manufacturer of the Impuls family of trains, put code in the train’s control systems that prevented them...

When we’re at the point where “criminals” are the ones acting ethically to undo the damage caused by those in power, I have to wonder how long until society collapses and is forced into another major restructure.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

The word hacker doesn’t mean criminal.

Never claimed otherwise. Unauthorized access of a corporate system, especially a control system for public transit, probably qualifies as illegal even if the intention was good.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

I have no doubt that those in charge now will sink their claws in so that they still come out ahead in whatever system comes next. When you abolish the monarchy, the rich become politicians.

It’s okay. Reading comprehension is a hard skill to master.

My Steam Deck doesn’t have the smell anymore, but when it did I knew it was unhealthy to smell it, yet I did anyways. It didn’t even smell good. It was just impossible to resist.

I think the design is really cool. The only other one that really stood out to me was Matt Smith’s because it was such a chonker. I know this one will always be instantly recognizable.

MamboGator,

The reason why I hate people is because of the things they do to hurt each other, because I actually like people.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

I say it like George Takei saying “oh my”.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

Thanks! I did like how they even pointed out how fast Mariner and Boimler talk compared to the Enterprise crew in the crossover with SNW. But I definitely prefer the latter. Maybe that’s a sign I’m getting old. Can’t keep up with what the kids are saying these days.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

I love The Orville. Before Strange New Worlds, I considered it the only good nu-Trek out there.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

I’m curious if you also like Farscape and Firefly. Maybe we’re onto a highly specific sub-fandom.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

Ah, here’s where we diverge. I still like the new BSG. It got a bit too psychedelic in the later seasons making everything feel too dreamy, but overall I like it. I actually have the same complaint about season 4 of Farscape when Crichton spends half the episodes stoned, but it’s still one of my favourite shows. I’m a sucker for a creepy Jim Henson puppet show.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

Cynical is probably the wrong word for what I was thinking of. I’m mostly referring to Mariner and her “too cool for school” attitude and teasing Boimler. She comes across as too negative to me.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

That’s what I like about The Orville, actually. Even when the series became more serious, I still saw it as like Star Trek if all the officers were actual people.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

I had to check the original to make sure I haven’t been missing something this whole time.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

That looks excessive to me. Mine has a little light on the top edge near the corners, which is annoying but acceptable. Each spot is about a quarter of the size of the bottom left blob in your image.

I’d say yours is worth sending in for warranty.

I don’t think Kirk’s expression works for this. It’s more accusatory where DiCaprio’s is trying to figure out from where you recognize something or a surprised revelation.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

Why’d they have to jazz it up like that?

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

I felt the exact same way. I was okay with Discovery and Picard not being for me because I had The Orville.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

I had the same thought, and then immediately thought of Steve Martin in Little Shop of Horrors.

I always wonder how these places remain abandoned. If I found a derelict mansion in the woods I’d have myself a new clubhouse. Asbestos be damned.

This is one of my favourite games. When it came out I had the choice between it and GTA3 because I could only afford one. I chose The Thing and never regretted it. I must have played it all the way through a dozen times.

I don’t have a PC with a disc drive to play my original copy anymore, and it isn’t available to buy digitally anywhere, but I recently got the PS2 version working on my Steam Deck so I can relive the glory days.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

I just watched the prequel again tonight. I really hope that someday it is appreciated more like the '82 film.

The Thing From Another World is worth a watch, too. I sometimes love the subtle humour in those old movies.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

a bit predictable

Someday we’ll all be completely stunned when the sickeningly adorable alien creature doesn’t turn out to be evil.

GOG or STEAM? how do you choose?

With the use of Heroic game launcher, I’m wondering if you all preferred to play your GOG version of games over the Steam version. I can go either way but sometimes I pause and think, having two copies of the same game, one on steam and one on GOG, which one would give me a better gaming experience. For example, I may choose...

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

I switched to GOG for a while when the shovelware on Steam became way too prevalent. I preferred GOG’s more curated storefront and migrated most of my library over whenever there was a sale. But now the situation has flipped. Steam has gotten pretty good at burying the shovelware while GOG’s front page is often filled with anime porn games.

So rather than set up Heroic I just pick up any games I’m missing from Steam on the cheap when I can. It’s a shame because I used to really like GOG Galaxy.

It’s like every other country saw the US under Trump and went, “yeah, but surely OUR conservatives aren’t like that. Besides, do we really want four or five more years of dem librulls?”

Canada is on track to follow suit in our next election with our own little fascist darling Poilievre.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

Oh yeah, there are definitely conservatives in Canada who love Trump because he’s a monster. But even those who hate him will ignore or play dumb when our conservative politicians are praising Desantis or posing for photo ops with known members of white nationalist groups.

MamboGator,

Same here. It’s like people who constantly try to recommend their favourite books to me. I have never once enjoyed reading something that was pushed on me by someone else. Because “you’ll totally love it” never means “I evaluated your personal tastes and media preferences” and always means “I liked it so you should too.”

A book or series is a huge time investment. I’m not wasting mine on someone else’s preferences.

As an aside to what others have already pointed out about “braaaiiiiinss” originating in Return of the Living Dead, the zombies in that film also aren’t mindless. They can still think and feel, and they crave brains because it (somehow) eases the pain they feel from their bodies decaying.

It’s an element of zombie lore that I really wish was used more often because it makes becoming a zombie even more frightening. They’re also totally immortal beyond cremation, so no aiming for the head to put them out of their misery.

The first and third Return of the Living Dead movies are my favourite zombie films ever. The second is… fine. It’s basically a remake of the first focused more on comedy like Evil Dead 2, but it didn’t really work for me. The two latest movies throw out all of the unique elements of the series to become generic zombie movies and aren’t worth watching.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

It was good but not my one of my favourites. The zombies are developing a form of intelligence and are empathetic to each other, but that’s used to contrast with the cruelty of the humans living in Fiddler’s Green. It makes the zombies sympathetic, but they aren’t in perpetual suffering like RotLD’s zombies. There’s just something really creepy to me about a mostly decayed corpse saying it can feel itself rot.

I think Land of the Dead is very similar to I Am Legend where the “monsters” form their own society, which is fitting because Romero based his zombies off of the creatures in The Last Man on Earth which was in turn based on I Am Legend.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, it wasn’t made very obvious that it was a sequel to Night of the Living Dead unless you knew the behind-the-scenes stuff. Even for those who were aware, like myself, the first “… of the Dead” movie I saw was the remake of “Dawn” and that is too different from the original series to be comparable. I went into Land of the Dead expecting something similar to the remake but it was really jarring and hurt my first impression of the film. I was expecting gritty realism but instead got Romero’s classic social commentary and subtle goofiness. I’ve since come to appreciate both.

The headline could stop at “Konami is looking to employ game creators” and it would still be newsworthy.
