Really into Diablo 4 right now and in the process of buying plants# 15 and 16. Will get a new fountain pen for Christmas as well. I go through about a book a week give or take depending on how interesting it is.
Been eyeing an Opus 88 demonstrator for a while but if I don’t have to drop $120 for a pen I don’t wait to. Going to try a PenBBS 355 first, heard a lot of good things about it and curiois about the filling system.
Three years ago my wife and I got three pet rats. A little over a year later, we added two more, and for a brief moment had a lovely little mischief of five happy boys....
I’ve got a client going through this right now and it’s devastating for her, as her rats are like her kids and they’re all she has. She’s lost two since I started seeing her.
I’ve learned SO much about rats while having her as a client and I can see how deeply owners connect with them, thus making it that much harder when they pass away because they don’t live very long (compared to cats and dogs).
Sending positive vibes your way during this difficult time!
@alyaza is MIA currently, but this weekly thread has been so awesome to see and keep going; so I am making what would be her typical post for this week. Alyaza; stay safe friend, I hope everything is okay....
Well…the good news is I submitted my letter of resignation for my job, which I am thrilled about. I’ll have better pay and flexibility and work for a company that has more than adequate staffing and support.
The bad news is my boss is trying to do EVERYTHING she can to get me not to leave. I told her no 6 different ways to no avail. She doesn’t respect boundaries. My supervisor that left a year and a half ago said it took her three times to leave. I had a meeting with boss yesterday and felt so manipulated it was disgusting. I also have to give a month’s notice so it’s going to be a long 3 weeks. I’m hoping that once I sign a contract at my new job (hopefully tomorrow), that will get my boss to let it go.
I have really good hearing and I’m good at guessing pronunciation of people’s names in certain languages.
I have fond memories of listening to conversations at the other end of the table at family gatherings. If we’re out with a bunch if people, I’ll listen to the various conversations.
For me, it’s my mom. She wasn’t the perfect mom but she did what she could to raise my brother and I and I’m grateful for that. And I wouldn’t be who I am today if it wasn’t for her.
I really appreciate my “people”. My spouse because he allows me to be myself and encourages me to chase my dreams. My parents are hella supportive and are absolutely my heroes. My brother is a wonderful, antisocial soul like myself and we share a love for movied, TV shows, and our hair ☺
It was definitely a tough watch for me. I think I only got through it because I watched it at work or while doing something else. The family dynamics were good, as was the ending, but good lord the stuff in between was a trainwreck.
It was good in the sense that I finally finished my first diamond painting (it was huge) and I’m happy with the end result, just needs to be framed.
Been a little discouraged regarding looking for another job. I’m a therapist and all the positions in jobs sites don’t pay well, are looking for fully licensed people, which I am not, or don’t offer schedule flexibility. I do have some connections in the field that I’m leaning on to see what comes up and I do have a decent position waiting for me in the coming months but wanted to see what else is out there.
On the negative side, I’m not sleeping well. It comes and goes based on stress and sugar consumption and it’s hard to stay on top of sometimes cuz damn it sugar is good 😔 I’m also coping well enough with the fact that I dislike my boss and the way she runs her business, which is most of the reason why I’m leaving. I love my clients but it’s a trainwreck that’s been in motion for over a year.
I think the most common answer is going to be Tears of the Kingdom, and that is one for me that stands out for sure, but I will try to add some more unique inputs as well. Many are games that came out longer than a year ago, but i didnt get around to playing until more recently....
Frostpunk. OMG never have I played a game like this. It was emotionally exhausting and I didn’t realize it until I finished the first scenario. I was like if been holding my breath for a few weeks and was finally able to let it out. Started a second scenario and I honestly don’t think I can do it again. I loved it but WOW.
I’m going into my last year of college and I kinda felt like I did college wrong. Like, my grades are good but everything else about college I failed at. Like socially and stuff, after 4 years I barely know anybody. I commuted(to avoid debt, and did so successfully) so maybe that’s part of my problem....
I can relate but lack of socializing in college didn’t bother me (I’m an introvert). Didn’t make any friends during undergrad and made some friends during my grad program that I still talk to but most of my friends are from high school.
Everyone’s college experience is different and just because it didn’t check certain boxes (unless they’re important to YOU), that doesn’t mean you failed. I think it’s put out there to be this special time in your life but “special” is subjective.
things are in fact going extremely badly but we’ll see if they pick up starting tomorrow night for reasons that will preclude me being here for about a week (seeing my SO)
Like someone already said, less hot. Kid is going back to school this week and while I’m not thrilled about having to get up earlier, I’m extra thrilled about being alone on my off days ☺
They’re still your problems! No need to rob yourself of feeling the gravity of your own situation within your own frame of reference ☺ perspective can be helpful though.
Filing your taxes could be free starting this year. The IRS is running a direct-file pilot program. The goal is to make companies like TurboTax obsolete through a system where your taxes are filled out for you. But tax prep companies are spending millions to block them....
It can definitely be frustrating. I’m a HUGE fan of using strategy guides and/or watching YT walkthroughs to get through certain things, otherwise I definitely wouldn’t have finished the game. Actually played it twice and stopped at the same point (basically the boss of the expansion). CANNOT figure it out and I’m fine with that 😂
That’s an interesting point. On the other hand, “intuitive” might be some degree of subjective. Your point resonates though. Some games have been really enjoyable because things just…make sense.
I own red eared slider turtles, while not exactly exotic it’s funny that the three things they are known for by owners are things normal folks would not expect....
Not an exotic pet owner but wanted to say this post was thoroughly enjoyable. I’d like to own an iguana one day, possibly birds again, and it’s cool learning about others exotic oet experiences!
I was about to just ask “What are some of your favorite music?” but then I realized some of you are gonna start naming those popular celebrity-singer songs which isn’t what I’m looking for. Because I find that songs that are part of other forms of media such as Movies and TV shows are really some of the highest of...
LOTS of songs from Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory. A lot of the songs came flooding back as I tried to list them. I might exceed the character limit if I tried! So many beautiful songs ☺
I caught myself loads of times scrolling on Reddit while not even paying attention, or while scrolling on Reddit to then close it immediately opening Reddit again to continue scrolling....
Yes. There’s less content to scroll through here (not a bad thing) so ensures scrolling isn’t a thing anymore. I’ll still visit a certain Reddit sub from time to time but at some point I’ll probably let that go too.
I think most all of us here on Lemmy are people with technical background. Most of my professional contacts remained using Reddit, Twitter and even excited when Threads launched....
Human troubleshooting (I’m a therapist). My dad is an engineer who always built his own PCs and gave me a pretty solid foundation for the software side of things, as well as basic car knowledge. Haven’t kept up on that in a while but I’m Tier 1 tech support for my parents (my brother is Tier 2) 😂
Nothing. I never stayed in contact with people and regularly downsized my friend list. I found that I was keeping people as friends but hadn’t talked to or messaged them in years. People I actually talk to have my number and I have theirs. Scrolling through people’s lives kept me from reaching out and having real conversations with people so…yeah.
Exactly. I remember I used to try to have the most “friends” possible but at some point it was like “yeah I don’t actually talk to these people and I don’t think I will.” Used to also keep FB for certain groups I was part of but in the end, there was just no point.
I recently started playing GTAV again and sometimes I’ll get in my car and let the radio stations play while I do house stuff. Favorite stations are the 80s one with Kenny Loggins, and West Coast Classics and Rock Radio.

Been on the laser printer bandwagon for almost 10 years. Bought a mono Samsung and it’s been my ride or die ever since. I think I’ve gone through two toners in that time, maybe 3. My only regret is not getting a color one but that’ll be my upgrade if this one ever dies.
Frostpunk and Diablo 4. Frostpunk is my first civ management game in a while (played lots Age of Empires and Age of Wonders back in the day) and OH MAN is this game good. Diablo is…compelling enough but not better than 3. Dislike the online aspect mainly but overall the game has its merits.
I’ve recently rekindled my love for Katamari Damacy and it made me wonder if there’s any other amazing cult classics out there that aren’t talked about these days. What are your recommendations?
Absolutely. I’m about to jump into the third one, which from what I understand is basically a remastered version of 2 with more civilizations to choose from.
I have been on a kick lately with short games. Because I’m a parent with a hectic job, it’s really nice to be able to beat a game in just a few days....
Oxenfree, A Night in the Woods, Afterparty, and Gris. Gris is a masterpiece when it comes to visuals but not story-heavy. The other three are entirely story.
Oh yes choice anxiety was definitely a thing. I think I felt that more with Afterparty and even played the game a second time to try to alter things but at the end of the day, I realized it’s not that serious and simply enjoying the game made it a better experience.
The best part of video games back in the day was making memories with your friends, now it all feels like structured fun. “This is how you play the game and this is when you are supposed to have fun” Idk if that makes sense.
Absolutely. This is how I discovered games like Hollow Knight and Spiritfarer, two of my absolute favorites. Can't bring myself to play very many AAA games outside of some multiplayer ones like Mario Party and Mario Kart.
Pretty good. I passed my licensure exam on the first try and I'm the only person I know who did that AND took the test that others avoid. I honestly just wanted my life back whether I passed or not. I studied (or thought about studying) basically every damn day for the past month or so. FREEDOM!!!
Which song are you currently obsessed with?
I will start. Lovely by Billie Eilish. I have already played it 34 times and can’t get enough it. I feel like i could hear it all day.
