FigMcLargeHuge,

Definitely have to get him Valheim, and they have an Xbox version now. Also, not multiplayer, but Kerbal Space Program is pretty fun. I have only played the PC version though, so can’t speak to the console version.

FigMcLargeHuge,

This is a good suggestion. I like this game as well. There’s a lot of customization that can be done without paying extra for it, but I am an old fart and don’t care to have all that crap in my game. Give everyone the same pair of pants and lets go. Time to go change the onion on my belt.

FigMcLargeHuge,

Oh yeah, DnD is a great idea, and if they aren’t into dragons (but who isn’t) there’s all kinds of variations of rpg games. Mutant Year Zero, Vaesen, Alien, Pathfinder, Starfinder, etc. The list goes on and on. And since you have mentioned you have a pc, you can use a virtual tabletop like Fantasy Grounds, for them to play where you don’t have to get them all together in the same room. I play a few different games each week with people I have only met in game. You could buy the FG Ultimate license for one pc, whomever is going to be the DM, and all the other kids could connect with the free beta license, and only the DM needs to own the books. Everyone else can just get on and read the manuals, or play the game with no expense.

FigMcLargeHuge,

Who the hell would downvote this suggestion??? Space Engineers is a great game.

FigMcLargeHuge,

Not a clue. I have it on steam.

FigMcLargeHuge,

Well I guess it all depends on the dm and the material. I play a couple of games each week, and one is a 4 hour session and it’s pretty immersive. We have a few hiccups now and again, but it’s not anything that bad in my opinion. There is some work on the dm side, but since we are all spread about the planet, it allows us to get together and run a campaign. Even my local board game peeps use FG to play. We talk about playing local, but when we get together it’s usually to break out some board games we have and want to play, and one person playing our dnd game is a couple of states away. We joke about putting him on an ipad and facetiming him with his head sitting on the table. LOL.

FigMcLargeHuge,

I am in the same boat. I was doing some drawing for a DnD game, and my son who is almost 30 asked me if that was something he or his siblings drew as a kid. I should have just gone with that, because the audible laugh kind of stung a little.

FigMcLargeHuge,

I might have to work on that so I have something at least usable. Thanks for the idea.

FigMcLargeHuge,

They might as well try banning fashion and individual choice. Just because you ban destroying clothing if it doesn’t sell doesn’t mean that people will automatically wear it. Just walk into any resale shop/goodwill store and see the amount of clothes there that are practically given away and people are still picky about it. “MEP Alessandra Moretti, who spearheaded the legislation through parliament, said: "It is time to end the model of ‘take, make, dispose’ that is so harmful to our planet, our health and our economy.” " Well I don’t know about her, but I have a simple set of shirts, pants, socks and underwear that I have just been rotating through for years (yes I wash them). Sounds like they need to work on the stigma of wearing clothes more than once…

FigMcLargeHuge,

I agree with that. Edit: But think it’s sad that it’s something they have to legislate…

FigMcLargeHuge,

I was just trying to see if I could preempt the comments where people would ask if I ever washed my clothes. Evidently my entire comment was a disaster in people’s opinion. Oh well, just an old guy yelling at clouds over here.

Does `cp -v` print out the file name when it starts copying it or when it's done?

So if I had a cp -v operation fail, is the last file name it printed out the last successful file copy, or is it the failed partially copied file? If you had to ensure all files are copied correctly without overwriting anything, would deleting the last filename that was printed from the destination folder delete the partially...

FigMcLargeHuge,

Run an md5sum command on the last file in each location and compare. That will tell you if one of them is different and answer your question.

FigMcLargeHuge,

This is what a ton of links end up being. I don’t know how anyone thinks that is an even acceptable user experience. Shit just popping up and covering the actual content. Actual content spread out like you are supposed to search for where the next paragraph is. The current state of most websites is just absolute shit. I end up going in and turning off javascript, since that seems to be the herpes that is behind most of this. I am not sure who or how people are making money off this advertising, but it needs to end (without having to resort to adblockers or disabling javascript). Ads have just absolutely fucked most web browsing and that’s sad.

FigMcLargeHuge,

I 110% agree with you on all points. I have been complaining and telling people about privacy till I am blue in the face, and it just seems like the general public doesn’t care. They just do not care that every second of their life is under surveillance and the data is sold to the highest bidder.

FigMcLargeHuge,

Introduce him or her to FidoNet.

FigMcLargeHuge,

I hope that one of them owns a Switch. What they have done to the Switch edition is atrocious.

FigMcLargeHuge,

I am thoroughly convinced that no one on the development team owns a switch. They have fucked up bedrock so hard on it, it’s frustrating.

  1. Not sure how kids with no patience even fire the game up. About two mins into starting it’s still popping up with “loading resources.” How, how is a modern computer with no spinning disks still loading resources that late into the initialization??? I would expect that from my Atari 800…
  2. Next, you used to be able to pop out of the game, and check things like your screenshots, and then pop back into the game. Now if you are in any online game (realm or just in a friends world) the second you hit the home button, you are gone. Disconnected. I frequently hit the wrong button to take a pic, and bam, out of the game. And sometimes to get the realms to show back up, I literally have to exit the damn game.
  3. If you don’t start the game fresh, I notice that I have to click the button to sign into microsoft. Problem is, every single fucking time I do that it makes me sign in from a web browser and then allow the switch to sign in. The only way it to kill the game and let it start from scratch to go through the login process.
  4. Let a realm you have created on the switch get too big, and you will have memory problems. Hey 200GB free on my microsd card, but hey there’s the error message saying there isn’t enough space. And if you say that’s a console restriction, it’s microsoft and nintendo, I am sure they can pull some strings to get that to work. Hell Fortnight was able to access mic and speaker for in game chat… I am sure microsoft can work this out if they even gave a shit.
  5. You can fly, or row on ice faster than the shitty rendering can happen. Using elytra on the switch is just shit. And this is written in c++? Well, I will let the performance speak for itself.
  6. For years there has been problems connecting to people running their own game, even on your own network. But have the done anything, nope. Just closed the Jira tickets when they had no activity. You know why they didn’t have any activity? Because they sure as hell weren’t working on them… It’s like they only do any testing on a pristine network in their lab. Guess what, the world isn’t lab quality internet, but they sure wouldn’t know it.
  7. Should we even mention the actual Switch Edition Minecraft that they not only killed off, they took it off the store. If you had it before they removed it, you still can download it, but if you didn’t, tough shit I guess. And I hate to break it to them, that version was superior to the shit they have out now called bedrock…
  8. How about our user ids. Forcing everyone to go to an xbox live account. Luckily I made a new account for my Switch only so it didn’t fuck with my real xbox id. But now between my xbox, switch, and a couple of Java edition copies I have a metric shitton of xbox live accounts, and the corresponding emails. What a bunch of shit, that I swore they came out and said they weren’t going to do when they first bought it.

Sorry, but microsoft has just proven themselves as a shitty company over and over in my opinion. Which gives me zero hope that any of this will actually be worked on. But hey we get some new mobs… (groan)
Thanks for listening to my rant.

FigMcLargeHuge,

Valheim if you want action, building, or relaxing things like chopping wood and breaking rocks. In more of a boardgame direction, there’s Sagrada, Dominion, Takenoko, Carcassonne, Istanbul, or Splendor. All of which I have played on my SD multiplayer. Usually these games end up using the left stick and the right track pad as the mouse, which seems to work fine for me.

FigMcLargeHuge,

but from complications of a rare tumor called a paraganglioma that can cause a fatal surge of adrenaline.

And this fatal adrenaline surge wouldn’t have happened if mr. murderer hadn’t knelt on Mr. Floyd’s neck. Or has he already forgotten the circumstances? Keep blaming the victim there dumbass.

FigMcLargeHuge,

Just curious what you are using. I have a domain as well, and occasionally consider setting up another email server for it. I also still have some old old accounts that are still linked to my domain email, but I just haven’t run an email server in years. Is it something turnkey that I don’t need to spend weeks configuring? In fact I might only turn it on long enough to receive emails so that I can change the accounts.

FigMcLargeHuge,

Thanks. I will take a look.

FigMcLargeHuge,

The hilarious part to me is that you would hop back onto the internet later with your new identity and life, and things like youtube algorithms would have you identified and linked back to your old life in about a week is my guess.

FigMcLargeHuge,

yt-dlp -F {youtube url} - Will list the different streams for you, which you can then individually download with “-f {stream number}”. You can use ffmpeg to put them all back together after. I know op asked for gui, but I figured I would point out the command line options just in case it was helpful.

FigMcLargeHuge,

the robot did not “confuse the man for a box of vegetables”.

Maybe he was acting like a squash.

FigMcLargeHuge,

Look at all the mud propositions in both Travis and Williamson country where only 1 person voted. Talk about making your vote count.

FigMcLargeHuge,

No shit. Well that’s pretty scummy if you ask me. But hey, here I am all surprised about shifty politics.

FigMcLargeHuge,

Thanks for the card holder recommendation!! I was just sitting here trying to figure out what to get my boardgame peeps for their birthdays and needed something by this weekend. This should be perfect.

FigMcLargeHuge,

I tell you what, catch your tallywacker in a zipper just once and it will break you of this. Happened to me about 4 years old, and I vividly remember my dad having to yank the zipper back down. NEVER AGAIN.

FigMcLargeHuge,

Really sorry. Not gonna lie, it gave me a little ptsd, and this happened sooo long ago.

FigMcLargeHuge,

Well it wasn’t my nutsack that got caught. But honestly at that point in time, I seriously doubt it matters. It was just pain, followed by more pain.

FigMcLargeHuge,

Or a beer… As long as it’s Lite Beer!

FigMcLargeHuge,

They are the same people who complain when a news story alerts them to the fact that facebook is collecting their data. They whine about how the govt should do something about this egregious act, and then share that with all their facebook friends.

FigMcLargeHuge,

At least your scat fetish is kept on the down low.

FigMcLargeHuge,

It’s like they actively remove the stuff that was cool.

Thanks to dust I deleted a 70 gig file on my drive

Dust is a rewrite of du (in rust obviously) that visualizes your directory tree and what percentage each file takes up. But it only prints as many files fit in your terminal height, so you see only the largest files. It’s been a better experience that du, which isn’t always easy to navigate to find big files (or atleast...

FigMcLargeHuge,

But did he even look at the log file? They don’t get that big when things are running properly, so it was probably warning him about something. Like “Warning: Whatever you do, don’t delete this file. It contains the protocol conversion you will need to interface with the alien computers to prevent their takeover.”

FigMcLargeHuge,

I am glad I am not the only person who feels that way.

FigMcLargeHuge,

Everybody ready for the cold weather coming? Make sure your car tires are aired up, or you will probably have the tps go off. Probably a good time to check fluids and such anyway.

FigMcLargeHuge,

Confederate Air Force one is the best.

FigMcLargeHuge,

I have seen a number of boardgames playtested in TTS. I am pretty sure we played Thunder Road on TTS which then spurred me to back it on Kickstarter.

FigMcLargeHuge,

Unfortunately no. This is some stupid fuck running around convincing all of these counties to pass these ridiculous laws all based on his belief. And people are just falling in line. Here you go. This dickhead: “At the helm of legislation and the campaign to ban abortion-related transit in Texas is Mark Lee Dickson, a Christian pastor who began pushing communities to outlaw abortion by declaring themselves “sanctuary cities for the unborn” in 2019.”

FigMcLargeHuge,

If you think they are going to get this info directly off your phone, you are pretty naive. It’s social media where they will harvest this data. Locking your phone is like holding your pinky up to avoid getting wet in a storm.

FigMcLargeHuge,

That’s being shortsighted about things. Remember the story of how Target knew a girl was pregnant. You think if they are going to dig for evidence, they wouldn’t just use tactics like that. You won’t have to announce you have had an abortion, but I am sure certain actions that are tracked by social media will scream it out for you. I don’t understand why I am downvoted on my previous post. I am merely trying to warn people about the dangers of letting big companies or govt collect all this information on us. But hey, I guess people don’t care enough to stop it.

FigMcLargeHuge,

Sure, if you are familiar with this person and are close enough to them to know these details it’s probably easy to figure out. The ease of which they can deduce things is only part of the concern. It’s the fact that they can, will, and have used this data against people is the real point here. Once these officials suspect that someone has traversed their county seeking an abortion, it’s just a matter of time before they start submitting subpoenas to various social media for their data on these heinous individuals daring to use their roads for nefarious purposes…

FigMcLargeHuge,

Powered by AI models trained on troves of text pulled from the internet,

There is their first problem. Why in the hell would you train anything that needs to be medically accurate on musings from the internet?

FigMcLargeHuge,

Did anyone go to the F1 race this weekend, and are you still trying to exit the parking lot? But serious, how long did it take you to get out of the track?
