I haven’t tried it myself, but I’ve been told a butter knife can silence the beast.

I used to bite my nails. All the way down to the quick. Did that for 20 something years. Finally wanted to stop. I did two things. 1. I became very conscience of when I felt like biting them. 2. I painted them which created a disincentive. After about a month or so, I had no desire to bite.

Maybe get some eczema cream or moisturizer to put on those spots you want to pick at? When you catch yourself doing it, substitute another activity? IDK.

Red Twizzlers isn’t licorice. It’s just licorice like. The black is supposedly real licorice, but I’ve only seen it a couple times. And I never had a chance to try it.

Suspect in Maine shooting rampage is dead from apparent self-inflicted gunshot, authorities say (www.cnn.com)

Card’s body was found in an area near a recycling center from which he had recently been fired, a law enforcement source told CNN. Earlier this week, authorities had found Card’s vehicle abandoned after the shooting near a boat launch in the Lisbon area....

There was a remaster that was put out a few years ago: steam, gog. It was a nice piece of nostalgia finding it. From playing it on arcade difficulty and comparing it against the easier settings, it was pretty obvious this game was meant to suck up quarters. You just had to have everything memorized.

DocMcStuffin,
@DocMcStuffin@lemmy.world avatar

He had left a suicide note at his home, and he was fired from the recycling center where his body was found. People tend to return to familiar places. On top of that, he had bought the gun he used in the mass shootings before he was evaluated. It looks like he tied bow himself before killing himself.

Elon Musk gives X employees one year to replace your bank - ‘You won’t need a bank account... it would blow my mind if we don’t have that rolled out by the end of next year.’ (www.theverge.com)

Musk must have a fetish for having government regulators up his ass. The FTC is already up there to where he screams like a pig. Now add banking-but-not-a-bank and they’re going to be up there even further.

Mike Johnson picked as new GOP speaker nominee just hours after Tom Emmer drops bid (www.cnn.com)

The House GOP picked Rep. Mike Johnson as their latest speaker nominee Tuesday evening, though the Louisiana Republican so far lacks the 217 votes needed to win the gavel – the latest sign that Republicans are still no closer to electing a new speaker three weeks after Kevin McCarthy’s historic ouster....

The first person they tried this with died. They weren’t sure the exact cause. It could have been because doctors didn’t handle the immunosuppressants just right, it could have been due to a porcine virus that was hidden in the heart, or the patient could have been too sick to begin with.

Not trying to be a negative nancy. Just saying that as they test this new technology there will be people who get an extension on life and people who don’t.

Could be, IDK. I’ve seen that with a regular discount and the price gets raised when a sale starts, but never with a double discount.

Perhaps someone that has published on steam could shed more light.

That looks like it. I checked one of the bundles.

Then tried adding to cart from my wishlist. It added both games, but on my wishlist it only shows the one game. That’s just really buggy, and fortunately only unintentionally deceptive instead of intentionally.

Yep it’s a bug. When I did an “Add to Cart” it added both games even though it only shows the one game on my wishlist.

I edited the post to reflect that.

So that’s what it will be like when everyone has brain implants. No thank you.

I hate how everything requires you to download a shitty proprietary data harvesting app nowadays when everything can be done just fine without an app.

I have recently started university and am required to use an app that has three Facebook trackers, one of them being a Facebook location tracker according to Exodus App Privacy, for the dining plan, when it would literally work perfectly fine using your student ID and ordering to a real cashier, LIKE HOW IT HAS BEEN DONE FOR...

DocMcStuffin,
@DocMcStuffin@lemmy.world avatar

I went to college before it was app everything and our student id’s were smartcards. Dining plan associated with the smartcard. Just stick it in the reader when you show up and you’re good. You could put cash on your card then use it for the vending machines or laundry or any little incidental on campus. If you needed cashed added to your account, your parents could go online and do it, or you could. That was the only online component. The entire system just worked without any fuss or privacy concerns or anything.

DocMcStuffin,
@DocMcStuffin@lemmy.world avatar

Yikes! That was a privacy nightmare. We were fortunate that the university assigned a personal ID on enrollment. I think the only place that had access to the social was the front office. Of course some of the students worked at the front office. I hope they were required to sign an NDA.

Woman propped up to look alive for family after already being declared dead at Adena Hospital, records show (sciotovalleyguardian.com)

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A recent incident at Adena Health System has intensified scrutiny of its cardiology department. Is there a progressive organization that writes model legislation?

ALEC is a conservative group that writes model legislation in the U.S., and hundreds of their bills have been enacted in different states. Many of them are harmful. But you have to admire the model in some ways because it’s working. It saves legislators research, it propagates the “best” policies and implementations from...

DocMcStuffin,
@DocMcStuffin@lemmy.world avatar

Yikes! I wouldn’t sully EFF’s name by equating them to ALEC. I’m not aware of EFF writing any model legislation. More of what they do is analysis of laws and raising awareness of technology and privacy issues.

DocMcStuffin,
@DocMcStuffin@lemmy.world avatar

I just skimmed. I see it now. Thank you.

DocMcStuffin,
@DocMcStuffin@lemmy.world avatar

I see. But that’s kinda the thing though. It’s not just the model legislation that makes ALEC effective. It’s when they couple that with the other activities that are unethical to bordering on illegal. For example, when ALEC got busted voting together with politicians on model bills behind closed doors. While not illegal, backroom dealing like that is super unethical.

But to bring things back to your original idea. I suppose we’re not just looking at model legislation, but also getting it in-front of politicians. While not engaging in the same nefarious activities ALEC has done.

There’s going to be ups and downs. I wouldn’t be too concerned right now.

I see the bigger problems being community discoverability, not being able to group communities together, and moderation tools.

DocMcStuffin,
@DocMcStuffin@lemmy.world avatar

I honestly see this being a continued expectation to be a bigger issue. Two communities with the same name on different servers could be very different spaces. Giving users the ability to group them together homogenizes them in a way that is likely bad for the ecosystem overall.

I see the issue, but I still see the tradeoff as being worth it. Right now, if I want to browse technology commies I have to click into each one I’m subbed to. This means I’m going to go the to biggest one first, then second biggest, and so forth. This pretty much favors the big commies over the small ones because this is just annoying to the end user. Grouping gives those smaller ones a better chance of appearing in someone’s feed thus spreading out activity over a larger part of the lemmy fediverse.
