The Open Source Cartridge Reader is a great diy project for dumping your own roms and saves. If you order a kit with the surface mount components already installed, it’s also a great beginner soldering project.
The retrode was a good device when you could buy it. What I like about this one is that you can dump all the popular cart systems without needing adapters, while being able to build additional adapters for less common systems.
Got fixes for both of those. 2.4ghz wireless controllers and properly cleaned games and connectors (pencil easer and ipa fixes 99% of issues with the games themselves, long term blowing is bad for the contacts).
Thanks! 8Bitdo make some pretty decent controllers. Modded mini or even a pi4 are great ways to play NES games, then you find yourself falling down the MiSTer rabbit hole.
Yeah it probably would have been better content. When I started work on this it was more to help get the post count and engagement of consolerepair up.
It’s not grey. The paint is matte white and matte black, all with a clear coat. The intent wasn’t a restoration since the case had cracks and nicks in it.
I cleaned the edge of the PCB with a pencil easer then ipa. After that I applied some dexoit for good measure. I also added some dexoit to the pins themselves.
I’m very happy with it. Most of the time I use roms on the SD card but the screen and original form factor are great for GB games. Certain games I use the cartridge for the display modes. The DMG filter is amazing, it even replicates the ghosting on the original system.
If you’re a Gameboy enthusiast, you’ll love the device and the bonus of playing other systems and arcade games is icing on the cake. Otherwise, a cheaper handheld or a steam deck would be a better option.
The dock is ok, just wish it had more scaling and resolution options (I wanted to use it with the smaller display but that resolution is not 1080, so it looks too squished). It also lacks a lot in controller support. Otherwise it works well and does the job.
Yep it’s the vertical stand from RetroFrog (model is on printables). And yes modded 1.1 og Xbox with 128mb ram, XboxHd+, and Stellar mod chip.
I don’t think that would change the price much. The slot itself is probably only a few pennies and you can’t get cheaper FPGAs without reducing the cores the device is capable of playing. Adding another SKU would just make it more expensive and harder to stock.
Yeah with Analogue you definitely need to go into their products expecting it will never be updated, and be pleasantly surprised if it does. I originally bought it just to play GB and GBA games via carts and everdrives, so OpenFPGA was a huge surprise when it was released (although my x7 didn’t work until I replaced the filters, thanks Analogue for that incompatibility).
If you ever do decide you want a og Xbox (which honestly with the state of emulation, you probably don’t need to), make sure it’s working unless you want a potentially challenging repair. They are very susceptible to leaky caps and trace rot.
I understand that in end to end encryption the message is encrypted and only the recipient has the key to Decrypt it. How is the key transmitted, and how can the key not get intercepted with the message?
There are a few ways you can send encrypted information, but they all boil down to the same concept: Create a problem that is very difficult to solve unless you already know part of the answer. For example, I have a number that when divided by 7(a prime key in this case) has a remainder of 3. It could be 10, 17, 24, etc… We then take that number’s remainder, raise it to a power and multipy it by a large number to create a huge result. I send this result to the other party without sending my prime, along with the number I multiplied. They choose their own prime and do some more math with my result and send back the result. Since I know my prime, its simple for me to get the result but anyone watching would have to do a lot of math to get the answer.
The Burnmaster is no available from their site, along with a MBC3 gbc cart and a 32MB GBA cart. The carts themselves looks like a decent value assuming they work with other writers but the flasher looks a little over priced to me since you have to purchase the case and buttons separately (total $30).
