Dosen’t that depend on the type of bond between the atoms? Ions are created only if there is a ionic bond. Water has covalent bonds so it dosen’t create ions.
Yes PoP OS is going to update the driver in their repos to this versions. Unless you realy want the new driver just wait the few days/weeks it will take for it to arrive in the official repos
Hello! I’ve tried a bunch of games but they’re just not able to start on proton/wine/GE proton version 8 and up. If I switch back to proton 7 they’re working fine. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have a solution. Also softwares that don’t require GPU work fine too with version 8.
Not great. Instead of open sourcing the proprietary driver they made a seperate open source one. So there are currenty two seperate official kernel drivers:
A usable proprietary driver.
And a horrible open source driver.
Also all userspace drivers are all still proprietary.

Youtube let the other shoe drop in their end-stage enshittification this week. Last month, they required you to turn on Youtube History to view the feed of youtube videos recommendations. That seems reasonable, so I did it. But I delete my history every 1 week instead of every 3 months. So they don’t get much from my choices....
I used to like his content and his videos got me into linux but i feel that his newer videos have a lot more politics compared to the older ones and i very much disagree with most of his political views i don’t realy watch him anymore

Update: I installed CS:GO and it runs insanely smooth. Metro didnt start at all. I now have cycled through many compatibility options and tried proton experimental, latest and now linux runtime. Now it works on solid 60 fps!...
Are you sure your using the official (propriatary) drivers? Sometimes just installing the official drivers isn’t enough and you still might be using the nouvau drivers. Run lspci -v find your gpu and check whats listed as the Kernel driver in use.
I am looking for for an app that registers as a YouTube endpoint, but has no ads and tracking (or backdoors). I had one (forgot the name) which stopped working. Please advice.
Pretty sure that Revanced still has google tracking since its a patched version of the official app.
Also if anyone here intends to use it: Please be careful. The real revenced site (www.revanced.app) has awfull SEO and usualy appears way below fake websites (that sometimes spread malware). The only real websites are revanced.app and the github.
Also you have to patch the app yourself for copyright reasons so don’t trust and websites that offer a direct apk of revanced (the real website offers a manager app that you can use to patch the official app)
nVidia graphics card and PoP! OS. My monitor has very inaccurate colors and I mitigate that on Windows with custom color profile + nVidia control panel tweaks to get better colors, gamma etc.; on PoP! I imported a custom color profile, but there’s only an nVidia X something and it doesn’t allow to change everything that I...
The Nvidia X Server Settings is quite limited but im pretty sure that it can do color correction, but i noticed that on Pop OS the app needs some extra tinkering to get all the options to show up.
Try running it from the terminal and see if any errors show up. I remember it threw some errors about keys or smth and because off that a lot of options would be missing (including color correction).
Looks like a bug in the bot caused it to not convert the youtube link into piped and instead just post the normal link. This caused it to reply to itself again posting the unmodified youtube link and replying recursivly.
The big one is proper support for diffrent refresh rate monitors and VRR. Also some security improvment and long term support (X11 probably has only a few years before development stops).
What are the disadvantages?
Its still a little buggy in some cases (especialy when using Nvidia hardware) but with an AMD or Intel GPU its more then usable. Some apps don’t play nice with Xwayland but its pretty rare.
How’s gaming?
I haven’t encontered any major issues with games. Some games might need launch parameters but usualy you can just google it and find the answer very quickly. Performance its exactly the same as on X (maybe even slightly better)
What would be the best way to switch?
On your desktop with KDE you can just select “KDE (Wayland)” in your display manager and KDE should just run like normal but with Wayland. On you laptop you’d need to switch to a diffrent WM since i3 dosen’t support Wayland. Your best bet would probably be Sway since its compatible with i3 configurations.
Why have you made the switch?
I wanted to check out how well Wayland works and found that it works fine for me, and so i decided to move. Also X was giving me issues with screen tearing and multiple monitors.
The only breakages i have encouterted were caused by nvidia (and there were a lot of those). If we exclude nvidia issues then i have had a very problem free expirience.
Take this with a grain of salt since im also not very fammiliar with the lemmy backend, but i think it would be like this:
If lemmy.world defederates from szmer.info all users from szmer (both spammers and normal users) would be able to see and comment on posts made on lemmy.world BUT those comments would only show up for other users on szmer.
For users on other instances (like lemm.ee) the situation would be the same as for users on lemmy.world .
Again im not an expert so this might be wrong (if it is feel free to correct me).
If you need Adobe products i would recomend staying on windows. Unfortunetly geting anything Abobe to work is extremly hard, so unless you want to spend hours getting photoshop just for it to break on the next update then its probably not a good idea to switch. The other stuff you listed shoud work fine.
I love hearing about unique takes on game mechanics. Someone recently convinced me that limited inventories are kind of abused currently and that unlimited inventory systems would give more player choices.

Troubleshooting for the average person is where it’s a bit harder.
I never undestood that point, i hear it quite a bit but for me its always the opposite. On linux if something dosen’t work i can usually see a detailed log of what went wrong. On windows its usually an error message with barly any info, stuff like “Error code: 0x72AF9B5D1” or “IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL” isn’t very usefull.
I quote “But installing a secondary SSD required me to input some commands and change a text file (again, on Windows, it’s almost literally plug and play), and I had an absolutely awful time trying to configure an app called MangoHUD, which I use for benchmarking on the Steam Deck.
