I agree that they’re getting something from this (no way they just bleed money on it without a sound investment plan), but what do you reckon they actually get? Money directly from subscriptions can’t be enough to cover everything… is it just to build a walled garden ecosystem so they can “lock” people in and pick the fruits in a year or two? Although if something like a huge price hike happens, they will lose many customers

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

I have no cars in this race, but if that’s their aim I think it will be impossible to achieve it. Steam already did that years ago, making people too invested in their platform I mean, MS is late. No way enough people will leave Steam to move permanently to Game Pass. They might get some users, but I don’t think they’ll ever get enough to make a difference for Steam or MS themselves. Buy we’ll see. I don’t really care either way

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

I mean, AmogOS is pretty good too

Hey, the screenshot you took is with the picture not loading. Could you take another one when the picture has loaded? Please

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

Some people are simply unaware of (or don’t care about) the pain they cause to others… like if u cried

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

What’s that about price parity? I’ve often bought games from 3rd party sellers like Fanatical, to name one, specifically because their prices were lower than Steam’s. What am I missing?

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

I see, thanks for the clarification. That does sound a bit shitty on their part, especially because when most people are asked “gaming on PC?” they answer “Steam”. Lower prices elsewhere might have given a better chance to other storefronts, although I don’t think that would have made a huge difference, since Steam is THE storefront

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

If they’re acting this way it means that either they’ve already seen a decline somewhere (or at least not as big of a growth) thanks to other storefronts (and maybe other companies’ launchers like Rockstar and similar), or anticipate things will get worse in the future. I get it, as a company they want to make more money YoY, but this is definitely an ugly move. Guess I’ll add another reason not to buy from them!

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

That’s true, I was looking at it from a wrong point of view

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

It is, thanks I’ll try that!

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

It worked, thanks a lot! What would be the Linux alternative to do that?

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

Guess I’ll need to keep W10 around haha thanks again

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

Oh, I see. So you’re saying that, when I have the chance, I should move to a different filesysten and that would avoid me issues as the one in the OP?

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

Yes, I just learned I can use a different filesystem to avoid (or at least minimize) these issues in future. I tried formatting a portable HDD and I could only pick FAT, that should be OK since I picked “Linux compatibility” or something like that in the format wizard!

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

I tried formatting an external HDD and I picked FAT, I’ll have to research whether or not that filesystem is good for my needs

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

That’s very useful, I’ll try it next time, thanks for the tip!

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

I’ll keep it in mind, but since I’m getting new, bigger drives I think I’ll just wait for and format them directly in the better filesystem. I tried formatting an external HDD and I think I could only pick FAT or NTSC (I’ll double check), hopefully on the internal drives it will be different!

I’m on Pop!

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

Yes, I’ve basically moved permanently over to Linux and do 99.9% of the things on it. Had to boot Windows for the first time in days only to check whether or not my HDD died after I couldn’t mount it

I’m still in the process of optimizing stuff around Linux (e.g. media drive filesystem) but I’ll get there haha

bec, (edited )
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

Yeah, most options were greyed out. I’ll have to visit the wiki of my distro haha thanks for the tips though

edit: actually, just checked, EXT4 isn’t greyed out, but it says “internal disk for use with Linux only” and since it’s an external/portable HDD I didn’t pick that option

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

Nah, all Linux is good. I don’t really need to use Win and since all my HDDs are for media storage I have no reason not to use them on Linux only. They’re only mine and don’t have to hop from PC to PC. Thanks for the input though

Hidden gem, The Witcher 3. Taking my sweet time to do everything I want, so I’m 120h in and I don’t feel like I’m too far into the main questline. That’s good, I’d like it to last as long as possible lol

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

hidden

A little tongue-in-cheek :P

I’ve been doing everything (except for Gwent) so I don’t know if I can fit a second playthrough, there are very few things I could do differently, for example focusing a bit more on Gwent, using non-witcher gear and upping the difficulty. I could also try it unmodded, but after playing with W3EE it’s unlikely that the original combat system would satisfy me. Well, it is too early to decide anyway, I estimate I should have more than 100h left, give or take haha

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

Modded combat adds so many layers to it and witcher contracts finally feel like proper boss fights, you need to prepare for each of them in a different way because without the right potions and oils it’s unlikely you can succeed (unless, I don’t know, you’ve beaten all Souls games with ease). The major downside of it is when you encounter large groups of enemies, because you don’t have the time to recover. Popping a potion or an oil after your first death definitely helps, though, but it breaks immersion a little bit haha

Anyway, highly suggested

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

Craved, obviously: it would be a bit embarassing and uncomfortable, but at least I would not be harming it

bec, (edited )
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

Can block a whole community? Didn’t know haha let me check, thanks for the tip

edit: unfortunately that wasn’t it :( but thanks for the suggestion!

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

Looks like it’s only one community, noticed others I accessed even just yesterday still work and they’re also on .world!

No idea what happened haha

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

It isn’t, I even made a post in it a couple weeks ago. It’s PC Master Race community

lemmy.ml/c/[email protected]

If I log out I see recent posts and comments, so others can access it without problems

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

Worst case scenario I’ll make a second account, thanks for the help!

@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

That’s what happens to me as well! I did a websearch for “lemmy defederation status” or something like that, and no defederation has happened between the two, in neither direction!

bec,

FoundTheVegan, well said

They actually have two sets of ears, both human ears and cat ears, but the human set is vestigial

It very much depends on your taste in music, but Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice OST is absolutely amazing, especially considering it’s all original scores (I think). After beating the game I put the OST on repeat for several days

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

A lot: amazing environments and scenery, cool combat with great enemy boss designs, very immersive exploration and the actress did an awesome job throughout it. The “puzzles” bits were a little pain to beat, but everything else was top notch; story was also very cool and made me feel the burden Senua’s carrying.

Definitely recommended!

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

Is it? During Covid lockdowns I gamed like there was no tomorrow. Sure, a little burnout at some point, but taking a break for a couple days usually fixed it and then I could start again to game as hard; I think that being able to go outside at will would help much more with the feeling of burnout, so I don’t see gaming during retirement being not fun at any point haha

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

Same here, haha, between my early days of game collecting and then Steam sales fever, I have so many more games than I’m realistically going to be able to beat. Plus I’m a bit of a datahoarder, so I have everything either on physical media, and the respective console to play it, or backed up on drives, and I plan to further improve my storage in the near future, so even if Steam or the entire internet goes down, as long as there’s electricity, I’m good

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

Totally agree! I too enjoy the time spent alone and with the few people close to me, while every other human interaction is unnecessary for my mental wellbeing haha absolutely not envious of those who need social contact to feel well

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

That’s true, I hadn’t considered that some people live alone, while we had some company at least, so they might need the interaction with strangers

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

Not chromium and Mozilla Foundation

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

I guess not wanting to discuss it is okay considering that’s exhausting, but asking others not to is the dick move

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

I feel like they won’t ever ban them because that way they can keep fining them

Not exactly gaming, but related: nVidia control panel replacement?

nVidia graphics card and PoP! OS. My monitor has very inaccurate colors and I mitigate that on Windows with custom color profile + nVidia control panel tweaks to get better colors, gamma etc.; on PoP! I imported a custom color profile, but there’s only an nVidia X something and it doesn’t allow to change everything that I...

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

Thanks, I’ll look into it! I think I tried looking through the settings but didn’t find anything, guess I’ll double check! Hopefully I can find it and it sticks with fullscreen applications because I’m having this issue in-game, where the nights in Win look dark, while in POP! look almost like day

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

I guess, yeah, since I did try looking for it and that nVidia x was all I could find mentioned online!

bec,
@bec@lemmy.ml avatar

Oh, nice, thanks for the tip! I’ll try to do that later and see if that works! Appreciated
