Rail is great unless you don’t fit the requitements… I bet the mostly assembled trains didn’t fit within the largest rail car dimensions or something silly as rail is often much cheaper for long distant large shipments.
You might be right, but I was more thinking the height and width limits for the snow sheds and tunnels in the Rockies. Some large loads can ONLY go via truck / highway due too their dimensions.

X claimed Media Matters “manipulated” the social media platform by using accounts that exclusively followed accounts for major brands or users known to produce fringe content and “resorted to endlessly scrolling and refreshing” the feed until it found ads next to extremist posts.
Media Matters’ report misrepresented the typical experience on X “with the intention of harming X and its business”, the company said in the lawsuit.

That policy would impact lawyers, doctors and movie/music stars mostly… Musk, Bezos don’t get paid that much, they get paid in stock. When they borrow billions against that stock it counts as debt and don’t get taxed.
I’m curious how people play multiplayer games on the steam deck: online and offline. I want to get into them but I am not sure how sound this goal is right now. The only multiplayer games that I have played were dead by daylight. But I know that cannot be the only game that offers multiplayer. Share with me your...
Online multi-player works as it would for any PC / Console.
For local / shared / split screen games we have some additional Xbox controllers we pair via Bluetooth to the steam deck then connect it to a TV via HDMI and we all play with the wireless controllers.
Party games like the www.jackboxgames.com are even easier, you just hook the HDMI up to the TV or stream it to the TV using Steam Link then everyone uses their phones as controllers.
If I hand someone a set of bullet notes and ask them to send out a notice in writing to the company. They are going to convert those notes into paragraphs and sentences… Not just send out the notes.
Also MS already has a module for teams that will take the conversation transcript, and output action items based on the conversation… It is like having a note taker during the meeting. www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1gpkk-MwpY
Housing affordability is BAD, but if you avoid the major cities (Vancouver/Montreal/Toronto) it is not as bad
Many will point out our health care systems is all backed up especially after covid, but if you need urgent care it is there and will not bankrupt you like in the US.
Most of Canada is COLD in the winter, doing some googling the ONLY place in Canada as MILD as your weather is the west coast near Vancouver (expensive cost of living).
Canada is MASSIVE www.thetruesize.com All of Ukraine is about the size of one of our Provinces.
Canada has a lot of diversity, each Province has a bit of a different personality and mix of cultures.
Lots of open beautiful places to explore if you venture out.
Flying domestically across canada is quite expensive, again it is huge.
Population density is actually quite low over all, we have lots of open space.
I assume there are people who read these things, otherwise companies wouldn’t send me so many of them. Gmail filters most of them for my personal email ProofPoint filters most of them for my work email. Any legit ones I get I tend to quickly hit the unsubscribe link for.
If you are getting an overwhelming amount of them in your inbox then you have poor SPAM filtering in place or subscribed to a lot of legitimate lists.
Since you mentioned Thunderbird, I assume you are on a very cheap ISP or self host mail system with poor filtering.
Thrunderbird is a very very niche client these days (I used when it first came out for years, it was very cool back then). It is rarely used today but I know has some hard core users still.
What type of mail hosting are you using? Are you doing ANY SPAM / JUNK filtering at that level?
If you have less than 1% I don’t care if you are in 3rd you are niche the placement doesn’t really matter that much when the distance between you and the leaders is so huge.
Many companies just turn around and sell your email info to big marketing lists. You often have to provide an email to sign into many services or receive notifications, that is one of the ways they get you over time.
Meanwhile my neighbor called social services on us because they had not seen our children out playing enough in their opinion, which resulted in months of check in visits when no problem existed. They need a more resources and prioritization. I feel like workers in higher income areas are reaching for something while those in lower income areas do not have enough resources to do all the check-ins required.
Toyota president Koji Sato also admitted that production volumes of solid-state batteries were likely to be small when the company rolls them out in electric vehicles as early as 2027. “I think the most important thing at the moment is to put out [the solid-state batteries] into the world and we will consider expansion in volume from there,” he said.
SOOOOO not really close… another press release hyping this up. How small is SMALL? Hundreds?
They clearly are still having trouble scaling production of this technology. It has EXISTED for some time but isn’t of use to cars if they can’t make hundreds of thousands of them.

A man who was denied access to an Air Canada flight because of the size of his wheelchair says the airline is trying to appeal a judgment by the Canadian Transportation Agency.
Hello, Canadians of Lemmy! Down in the USA there is a lot of conflicting information regarding the efficacy of y’alls healthcare systems. Without revealing my personal bias, I was hoping for some anecdotes or summaries from those whom actually live there.
If I am in great pain or have been injured I just head to the emergency room. My only concern is how long I will have to wait to be seen which is based on urgency of the symptoms.
If you have a less severe or chronic problem it can take a few months to see various specialists or get non critical surgery. However again time is the only concern.
The only financial concerns come from over the counter medication for which there are programs for low income and extended coverage that is commonly covered by employers. Also most of these medications are cheaper in Canada vs the US as the provinces negotiate the costs. For an example an epi pen purchased without coverage of any kind is 6x cheaper in Canada than the US.
It is slow at times but I never have a financial concern during an emergency or that I need to go to a specific in network hospital like in the US.
I specifically purchase noise cancelling headphones / earbuds now since it makes it easy to listen at MUCH quieter levels. I have done some tests with the noise cancelling disabled and setting the volume and with it on… It really makes a huge difference as I am not cranking it up to drowned out noise on transit or walking down the street.
Odd I have tested them in stores before and they are typically well rated.
However I was using Bose QC II for a few years and now I use the apple air pod pros.
For in ear seal is really important for nose canceling and apple also provides a test mode / app on apple devices to test that sound isn’t leaking substantially.
Makes no difference in a quiet environment but will easily cancel out a loud air conditioner or most traffic noise from passing cars.
This means that some of the people included in the count – between 50 and 60 per cent according to health officials – do not have serious cases of COVID-19, but rather tested positive incidentally while they were in the hospital for other reasons.
Big difference in people in hospital with Covid vs people in hospital from Covid .
Both can be serious but reporting really needs to separate this out.

Summer Cooling 22C - 23 C (71.6F to 73.4) in Winter Heating 20 C- 20.5C (68 F - 68.9 F) Since we have large summer and winter seasonal temperature differences we are all dressed more warmly in the winter so a lower over set point.
The hard part is getting a a host that allows the ports, a “clean / private” static public IP and a matching reverse lookup record for it.
Email servers and spf / dmarc / dkim are not that hard to setup. There is still going to be a “trust” period for some spam filters but if you did everything else right it isn’t too hard other than in bound spam filtering.
Assuming you were completely illiterate it would VASTLY limit your interaction with the current world and ability to work than having no legs.
I am not even sure it is a contest here. Having no legs would absolutely limit my physical mobility but there are accommodations and workarounds for that. I can 100% do my current desk job with no legs, play online games etc.
Being completely illiterate would heavily isolate you and your ability to grow and learn. You would have to be verbally / visually be taught everything yet somehow not ever learn how to read or write?
You clearly haven’t tried to use them for any significant task, the error rate gets bad. Hell I just use Siri for my shopping list and have to figure out some of the random garbage it inserts.
At the very least READING works well but speech to text is very hit and miss. You also can’t use it everywhere.
As far as communication goes it would be similar to being blind but not knowing braille or Tactile signing and being 100% dependant on technical aids.
it’s weird watching like four people who are definitely more tech savvy than me just bumble fuck their way through all this server stuff with enterprise level gear.
Exactly, bumble fuck is what every one of their server videos or home automation videos seems to be about.
