Youtube let the other shoe drop in their end-stage enshittification this week. Last month, they required you to turn on Youtube History to view the feed of youtube videos recommendations. That seems reasonable, so I did it. But I delete my history every 1 week instead of every 3 months. So they don’t get much from my choices....
Some people want to be able to watch a movie “for the first time” all over again. Others want to forget a rubbish one. If you could remove just one movie from your memory, which would it be?
I remember going to see TLJ at Leicester Square on opening night me and my brother and sister all paid silly money relative to other cinemas and I just came out of it going I don’t know if I even like this while my brother was raving about how it was the best thing he’s seen in years lol
I think he got caught up in the moment.
Honestly it’s also like when I saw Star Trek 09 with a friend at the BFI imax and I came out of it with him having had the time of his life and the only positive thing I could say was “ I liked the music “
edited the heading of the question. I think most of us here are reasoning why more people are not using firefox (because it was the initial question), but none of that explains why it’s actively losing marketshare....
I have never understand exactly what it is that people need/desire/require out of Firefox that they find missing but which a Chrome based browser is providing them.
The ability to log into any computer on chrome and load my profile, which gives access to my bookmarks and passwords.
As someone who has 4 chrome profiles due to work remote managing 3 of them that I use daily, Firefox will never be able to handle that.
if Firefox had some sort of cloud sync that wasn’t oh hey you need to have multiple devices to make it work and just gave you a way to do it through the browser properly with even a paid option that would help.
That hasn’t really been my experience, talking to a lot of people tends to seem like most people seem closer to my age 30s with an interest in tech or a tech background.
I haven’t really run into many teenagers in discussions.
I was using Windows for a long time, from 95, XP, 7 and 10. Games just worked out fine, software that I needed I pirated. But I was annoyed from updates, (cannot turn off MY pc, just update and turn off option) bing, fokin bing and oh the best - F1 binded to it....
AD Free YouTube is great tbh, it is generally a good experience no matter what device you use then throw in the claim it supports the content creators more seems like win win
I am very new into this chat applications and read about IRC and Matrix. Matrix seems its more new and modern. So I just wonder what’s the reason you are still using IRC?
I don’t think the size difference works in the favour of lmg.
If gamers nexus puts out pretty much industry leading day one reviews out on every launch with 5-6 people and LMG with labs and 100+ employees can’t then there’s something wrong.
GN has a point LMG shits out videos without QC and it’s starting to bite them of late. The water block review is the perfect example of just being stupid. Why not just test the item with the right product and judge it for what it is as opposed to turning it into a joke review where no matter what the product is going to look bad.
The short circuit thing with the mouse is also a bit ridiculous.
But the charts are the main thing, I’ve noticed it myself over the years that lmg charts made no sense relative to gamers nexus or HUb or even jayz 2 cents which meant something was wrong with the testing.
Piracy and software was already really easy to use a decade ago ( sick beard / couch potato ) it’s just that the services at the time were good enough that you could watch practically everything on Netflix +1 so it wasn’t really a problem to stomach the cost. now I need 7 different subscriptions to watch shows I’m interested in which is a ball ache
I haven’t needed to tech support on any of my Apple stuff in the entire time I’ve owned them, I have at home both a Linux server and a Mac mini running as a headless server. Guess how many times I’ve had to fix the Mac mini 0.
My iPhone I’ve had 0 issues with and my M2 Air which I use for work has had 0 issues.
I don’t really see a situation where the sorting out a mac would be troublesome it’s pretty much all simple as hell.
Oh and fun fact, I have done tech support for apple stuff on a daily basis as part of my job as a store manager of a retail tech store and I’m constantly thrown problems from Android/iOS Devcies as well as MacOS, Linux & Windows Devices and guess which ones give me the most problems.
Me and you have very different experiences to this, at work I’ve found MacOS the easiest of the three to sort out.
I’ll give you a recent windows example, A PC comes in for repair with a b450 MSI board no audio on the Front panel or the rear I/O. Naturally we install all the drivers off the MSI web page except windows won’t even detect the sound card. Throw on a Linux USB live environment instantly detected.
Naturally we’re like no worries let’s use the inbuilt Windows tool to reset the PC with a cloud download, nope that doesn’t fix it. Required a complete reinstall from a USB. This was windows 10 22h2 iirc.
At work I see Windows/Mac/Linux daily and Windows, gives me the most trouble on a daily basis. With Mac/Linux most things you can fix from the terminal pretty quickly, or with Mac just use the inbuilt reset tool no matter how much a customer fucks up their machine.
Apple Pay every day, and before that Google Pay. I haven’t really used cash in years.
There’s a very rare exception for like one store I visit that requires cash with an ATM next-door so I just pay by cash then but otherwise I’m using my phone/watch for all payments.

Well there’s the fact that it’s somewhat true as for example if you use a chromium based browser on Linux hardware acceleration isn’t enabled by default and borderline doesn’t work a lot of the time.
Doesn’t sound so bad till you realise what it does to battery life on a laptop.
I love Linux and we are so close but it’s small things like that, which prevent me getting friends and family to use it consistently.
I think it’s a huge battery drain compared to all the alternatives, liftoff for example with Lemmy despite using it just as much as I did the official app in testing consumed less than half the battery life. Apollo also consumed about half of the official Reddit app while using Reddit so I dunno.
Also the constant promoted posts are just horrible to deal with.
My work emails all run through the google suite of applications and I have two of them plus drive etc so having chrome allows me to have multiple profiles for each work account and they are remote managed by the company.
This does not keep my bookmarks and passwords synced across all the work devices I have to use does it?
I regularly log into 2 work email accounts and have a third that I check monthly. I do this across 5 work devices which are shared, my personal MacBook Air which is used primarily for work and my phone.
If Firefox has sync features that work with cloud storage as opposed to device storage it would be practical otherwise it’s no go
You know that’s not a Manjaro problem that’s a user problem, you’re specifically warned that AUR compatibility is not guaranteed with Manjaro wiki.manjaro.org/index.php/Arch_User_Repository
But people often ignore this and then complain that Manjaro isn’t stable.
And yes Manjaro is fully rolling just because they delay packages a week doesn’t stop it being rolling, that’s like calling tumbleweed not a rolling release?
I’m not arguing that Manjaro is better or worse than Arch just that if you use it as intended it functions correctly and is a good way to learn Linux and Arch.
The fact the BBC got away with that sums it up nicely, People say Corbyn was unelectable but honestly, he was insanely popular until the attacks started. Speaking to people in person in my life what I noticed is everyone started to say Corbyn was bad but they had no reason to give other than " He’s promised too much he can’t do what he says " or " I just don’t like him "
Clearly the establishment knew what he was going to cost them with state run Electric, Railways & dialing back on the private healthcare
The union would like performers "to share in the rewards of a successful show, without bearing any of the risk," the group that lobbies for studios says.
Hey at least the top gun sequel was actually good. I don’t think Sequels should be branded as crap movies by default, Sure F&F X and so forth are garbage but there are some genuinely good sequels too.

I refused to buy Apple products for 15 years. Recently I grabbed a whole set of them and honestly, there’s only one thing I can say. It just fucking works.
I’ve been using Linux/Windows for the better part of two decades and I’m just at a point where I don’t care to tinker anymore unless I have to, I just wanna have stuff that works especially when it’s related to work stuff. Apple stuff is just reliable in that sense, oh my Android phone decided to crash on itself? Yeah my iPhone has had 0 crashes all year I’ve owned it. My M2 Macbook Air has superior battery life and portability at a more reasonable price than pretty much any competitor on the market?
Yes certain Apple things are beyond stupid expensive, Hello Apple TV 4K 128gb being £180 on launch?
But when I want something to work and not have to think about it, the apple stuff fits that need.
Honestly, they’re horrible I can’t believe people still buy them when wanting an Android experience. They come with so much bloat now and it just feels jank constantly.
I’d never recommend them to anyone but then again, Google Pixel devices aren’t much better due to how unstable they are and you’re essentially beta testing the phones as you go. Big part of the issue with Android phones these days.
