It’s hard to find estimates of android devices, but most reports I found indicate around 3 billion, and this makes us around 0,05%. I expected it to be low, but not like that…
if you haven’t heard about theory of computation, let me define some keywords:
symbol: smallest unit. denoted by any character(a,b,c, etc.) or number (0,1, etc.)
alphabet: set of symbols. denoted by Σ(sigma). e.g.: {a, b, c}
string: sequence of symbols. eg: a, aa, aaab, etc.
language: set of strings. e.g.: {a, as, aaab, …}
now, sigma has powers. Σ² is set of all strings of length 2. e.g.: {aa, ab, bb, …}. you can generalise this to Σ^n.
Σ* is union of all powers of sigma. i.e., Σ¹ + Σ² + …
so, a language is basically a subset of Σ*.
as for why theory of computation even exists, you basically try to define what a computer can/cannot do.
and you try to mathematically define a computer. then you try to define what a language is(in case of programming , you need it to form languages and compilers). hence the need for this.
Does Texas have something in place preventing people from getting solar? I don’t live in Texas, but my solar loan payment is a flat $200/month for 10 years then goes to $0. My buddy in Texas complains about getting $700 electrical bills, but when I recommend solar he acts like I’m recommending he cut off his left ball.
When will be your “this is the last fucking time I’m voting for the ‘lesser of two evils’, then I don’t care after that, let this country burn to the ground”? For me, this is basically it. This is last election I’m going for that " lesser of two evils" bullshit. After that I’m done. It’s just pointless. Let’s...
okay, but now you’re fighting game theory and maths
that’s just not going to work out well
it’s irrelevant what you want at the end of the day… voting for some “best” option is only useful if it’s even remotely likely to happen… don’t get me wrong, if it’s a slim chance of a great outcome that’s one thing but the odds of everyone deciding to do the same thing at the same time are basically 0
sure, vote how you like, but you’re more likely to win the lottery than to have a 3rd party candidate elected and i think we can all agree you don’t buy lottery tickets because you think you might win
The limits of “hot” and “cold” change with location and personal experience. 0°F is shorts weather for some, while 70°F is jacket time for others. Both live in my neighborhood.
There are hundreds of millions of people who see negative double digits every year, and billions of people who have never seen snow (Mumbai has never seen below 50°F!). There is no scale that can claim to cover human’s experience of temperature in general, but some scales can be useful.
The exact numbers don’t matter to people anyway, no one sees 70°F and estimates 70% hot, just like most of the world knows what 22°C means, even if it never freezes there. We could measure in yoctojoules (40.7) or simply relative to what the pope feels is hot and cold (85?). For daily use all temperature scales are arbitrary. Why not use one that’s useful?
Temperature scale doesn’t matter in daily life, so I hate that there’s always this argument about which scale makes more sense. Knowing what a given temperature feels like is no more difficult than remembering that water freezes at 32 degrees fahrenheit and boils at 212.
I’m all for a system based around multiples of 10, but for temperature, even Celsius isn’t done that way, other than 0 and 100.
Sure, 0 is very cold, but where is “cold enough to wear a jacket”?
This is going to vary depending on everyone. I start wearing a jacket at around 60. My wife starts at like 75. So neither system is going to be able to tell you that information
How does this refute anything in my comment? 80% is fairly “mild”. When 100% i “as hot as it can be”, and 0 is “as cold as it can be”, 80% is a pretty good temperature.

Everything was clear enough for people like me, when we knew every possible public service and API was being abused to scrape data for OpenAI LLMs. Shit was never “Open”, just like USA is not a democracy. Fucking shithole country with ultracapitalist leeches and the world’s best media propaganda machinery is what it is, and there are plenty of Sam Altmans, Zuckerbergs, Steve Jobses and Larry Pages in there, while real people like Steve Wozniac get sidelined.
Capitalists give 0 fucks about anything other than MOAR money. That includes innovation and tech advancement for our species. Only a socialist framework could give 2 hoots about such grand goals instead of resorting to leeching the public content makers for 0 pennies. Many artists, writers, musicians, programmers and other creative people will either stop working and stop making the public domain richer, or they will Patreon and copyright the hell out of everything they make, either way we lose because nobody got paid respect, and only LLM corpo leeches became rich.
Deeply complicating matters, 0 and 1 can be excluded from theories of probability, and there is a good informal reason to do it, known as Cromwell’s rule. The issue is that there no longer are units in such a system; 0 is the disjunctive unit and 1 is the conjunctive unit. This is part of a bigger theme in maths where units are increasingly seen as optional, but Yud is completely unaware of this bigger theme.
Personally, I’ve always found Cromwell’s rule a deeply boring proposal for screwing with the axioms. Try doing the Dutch-book argument with surreal numbers, then I’ll pay attention. :-P
(I would expect that many subjectivist Bayesians would take Cromwell’s rule as an addition to the basic rules that are themselves justified by Dutch book or some such means. Not assigning sharp-edged probabilities out of general prudence is a thing an individual gambler can choose to do, if that’s the way their tendencies lie, while not being part of the mathematical definition of the subject itself. But, well, 46,656 varieties and all that. Moreover, it is hard to do physics having chopped off the endpoints of the interval without chopping other structures as well. For example, if you don’t even allow 0 and 1 to be available as idealizations, you might end up peeling the skin off quantum state space. Some could cope with this, but not Yud, since he demands that all of reality be a single pure quantum state. Insofar as any sense can be made out of Yud’s rambles, he is wanting something stronger than Cromwell’s rule, anyway, since he wants to forbid probability 1 even for logical implications, which Lindley allowed.)
