SnotFlickerman,

I’m upset how good this is damn it. Thanks, I hate it.

SnotFlickerman,

No Altered Beast? They forgot the best!

SnotFlickerman,

I fully believe this conversation works better when it’s Data and Lore, with Lore taking the role of Dennis.

SnotFlickerman,

They can’t all be zingers.

You only truly miss the shots you don’t take.

SnotFlickerman,

Basically Lower Decks but with IASIP’s soundtrack.

SnotFlickerman,

Quark won’t accept any advertising in his bar except for his bar.

So Disney Channel rules, then? I remember in 2008 when I was visiting a friend and their kid sister was watching Disney, and after about an hour or so of it being on in the background while we hung out that I started to notice that the only things advertised on the Disney channel were all things owned and operated by Disney or a Disney subsidiary.

To my layman’s understanding (which is not good) it’s because of electronic resonance. In other words, how cables can give off/pick up radio waves.

In early radio, this was a problem with microphones picking up signal from radio transmissions, which obviously is unwanted when you’re trying to have people hear your voice, and not your voice mixed with competing radio signals.

From what I understand, when it comes to microphones, there is a “hot” a “ground” and a “cold”, and the cold is the same signal as the hot but inverted, and apparently this helps prevent picking up radio signals. It is called “balanced,” and I’m not sure why other than the inverted signals. So while it looks like a standard stereo cable with three connections, it’s apparently actually a standard microphone cable.

There’s a lot more radio/electric wizardry going on than that, but that’s my understanding of it, as a person who thinks Electricians are real life Wizards. This is based on some cursory internet research, so please anyone with more understanding correct me if I am wrong.

SnotFlickerman,

“Better” in terms of less radio interference? I suppose, probably.

I am not an audio engineer. It fascinates me, but most of it is beyond me.

Like how Apple used to be able to send video out of an iPod over a 1/8th connector, using the “sleeve” part as a 5th connector for video.

SnotFlickerman,

To do that, first you gotta get rid of Tim Sweeney.

GOG is at least not run by total shitheads like Epic.

SnotFlickerman,

But its not wednesday my dudes

SnotFlickerman,

This guy could write headlines for newspapers.

SnotFlickerman,
SnotFlickerman,

That part where he talks about being made fun of for being in chess club…

…it’s like no… that’s not why people made fun of you, Todd. They made fun of you because you were the twerp claiming your uncle at NASA could get you on a spaceflight and then kept making excuses as to why the final story was your uncle taking you on a regular ass flight. People don’t like people who lie painfully obviously for attention and interest.

SnotFlickerman,

The importance of all types of maintenance, including cleaning.

When you take care of things right, they can last forever. I have clothing from 15+ years ago due to proper washing, storage, and a little sewing.

I genuinely didn’t understand or care until my late twenties. That was a lot of wasted time and broken things that I could have salvaged.

Whether its cars, computers, your home, or whatever else: regular cleaning and maintenance on a tight schedule is key to preventing interruptions and lost time.

SnotFlickerman,

I was afraid to be alone, I was afraid I couldn’t find anyone else and I was ignoring red flags, because you know…sex…

Another thing I would tell my younger self is that how much sex you have isn’t a measure of how successful a relationship is. It’s important to have a functional relationship outside of sex, especially if you want your romantic relationship to last a lifetime. There will be a point for all of us where physical health will preclude a normal sex life, so you best be comfortable with that before it happens.

What matters is they care for you, you care for them, and you both having matching values. Anything past that is just a bonus.

SnotFlickerman,

Actually, don’t waste time in general.

Or perhaps don’t waste time without purpose? Also, it depends on what one considers a “waste of time.” A hiking picnic in an idyllic meadow may be worth the time and effort to some, but perhaps not to others. I personally prioritize time with friends and family over other pursuits simply because some of the top complaints people have on their death beds are “worked too much” and “didnt spend enough time with friends/family.” However, society doesn’t necessarily reward us for prioritizing those, either.

Anyway, as long as you get value out of what you are doing, it is not time wasted.

SnotFlickerman,

YTMND is dead. Long live YTMND!

SnotFlickerman,

What do you think it feels like to wake up pickled?

SnotFlickerman,

His security guards are probably off-duty cops.

SnotFlickerman,

How many times do we have to teach you this lesson, old man?

SnotFlickerman,

Every Man is an Island motherfuckers realizing that No Man is an Island.

Humans specifically only were successful because of pack hunting. We died quickly in nature as individuals. Anarcho-capitalism rejects this need for each other replaced with the unsound idea that each individual can handle everything on their own.

Works great until you break your fucking ankle and realize nobody decided being a doctor was important or the only person with medical skills has decided they don’t want to do business with you.

SnotFlickerman,

Yeah, the old “you don’t find libertarians in poor countries with bad infrastructure” trope.

SnotFlickerman,

what’s Bill the Cat doing here again?

SnotFlickerman,

inb4 modified chicken tendies copypasta

SnotFlickerman,

Men rule???

Down with the patriarchy!!

SnotFlickerman,

My immune system making millions more white blood cells than I actually need:

“No need to thank me.”

SnotFlickerman,

It’s never Lupus!

SnotFlickerman,

Gnome Chomsky.

Windows had Clippy then Cortana.

SnotFlickerman,

Is this advice from Elon Musk?

SnotFlickerman,

en.wiktionary.org/wiki/gold_in_them_thar_hills

“There’s gold in them thar hills” is an old phrase, probably a misquote, but has been long been associated with gold prospecting in the US old west.

So a non-binary gendered gold prosector found lots of gold in “them/their” hills is a reference to how people of non-binary gender tend to use “they/them” as pronouns.

“Them/their” isn’t exact, but their is the possessive form of the third-person plural pronoun “they.” So it’s still referencing to correct pronouns for non-binary gender, just shifted slightly for the sake of a joke.

SnotFlickerman, (edited )

I mean the media really glossed over how he actually doubled down on the anti-Semitic conspiracy theory in the “apology.” It isn’t an apology when you just re-state the original idea a different way. He is only sorry people interpreted him correctly and are angry about it.

SnotFlickerman,

I saw elsewhere someone astutely point out how dangerous this is, legally.

People use cell phone photo evidence in court cases all the time. Shortly, those may be being called into question as being entirely accurate.

SnotFlickerman,

Square Enix meanwhile focused on only re-doing some Final Fantasy games while I’m just waiting for a remake of the original Dues Ex.

SnotFlickerman,

I didn’t say I was shocked. I know I’m a niche audience. A guy can have hopes and dreams, man.

SnotFlickerman,

Just in time for Christmas, Santos-Claus. Ho ho ho and a merry Kwanza!

SnotFlickerman,

I wouldn’t want to dance in piss and shit.

SnotFlickerman, (edited )

Poor people can’t afford lawyers to fight back.

Rich people can.

Ergot Ergo, they aim at poor people way more often.

SnotFlickerman,

This. Congress is in control of auditing the Pentagon.

The most the IRS would do would be auditing the incomes of people who work at the Pentagon.

Badly put together meme.

SnotFlickerman,

Nice catch.

SnotFlickerman,

Yeah not my fault its a badly considered meme.

I was just responding to the second half.

The IRS isn’t in charge of auditing the Pentagon, congress is.

SnotFlickerman,

Nah, another reference to the book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. In the book, owning a real, live animal is considered a mark of high status. However, animals are hard to care for and die easily, so many people “fake” that status by having an artificial animal. In the book, Deckard and his wife are quite devastated over the loss of his goat.

That’s my fault in the original comment, I remembered it as a sheep, not a goat, because of the title of the book.
