Majora’s Mask is a hidden gem if you ask me, it doesn’t get nearly the same praise as OOT because the latter was more friendly with the public, and this one is… Well weird, but the perfect one for Halloween season no doubt.
I have only played the 3DS version and I enjoyed it, as others have pointed out, you really need to do the side quest as they are a huge bunch of the game, I completed it 100% I think, but I always had a guide on my hand because I’m dumb.
As for the replayability time… Yeah I don’t see myself coming back to his one in the near future (maybe on Halloween though), other Zelda titles like OOT and Twilight Princess? Sure!
You made it further than me. I was an absolute completionist in OOT and when I started MM, I just extremely put off by the reset time and do things over again. I wanted to finish what I was in the middle of, but having to be interrupted and even plan what I was going to do rather than just explore and fumble through things really bothered me. I really don’t think I made it through more than a handful of time resets before I gave up
Heh, I got it at launch on the GameCube (didn’t buy a wii until a year later), and I’ve only played it maybe twice since then. Definitely due a replay.
TP was a slog at times but had the best boss battles and some amazing dungeons. Majora’s Mask is still my favourite.
The start is fucking horrible. Goat herding? Fishing? Finding a basket? Why?? it only picks up once you get to the forest temple, and that’s a significant way in.
The whole game just meanders and moves at a glacial pace. It’s the complete opposite of Link to the Past, for example. Still good but I remember being frustrated with it.
Not as frustrated as with Skyward Sword and that swimming part. Hooooly shit that was bad.
It took me about two and a half hours to get to the forest temple. The goat herding was really annoying. I didn’t mind the basket, but I think it is because I knew there were something to do with that monkey.
I’ve never played skyward sword. The control scheme was really annoying on the switch and I am not sure that I care to get used to it. Maybe i will muscle through it for the sake of completeness.
It’s worth it, it has some of the best highs in any Zelda. The arbiters grounds boss battle is still awesome, and the final proper temple is fun as hell
It’s just such a frustrating game in terms of pacing
I’m looking forward to playing some more when I have time this week. Another thought is that I’m not a fan of how the fighting works in wolf form. It’s annoying to leap for an enemy for them to just move out of the way by chance.
It has been absolutely forever since I played D1, but I seem to remember devs saying that it can be completed by any class.
I don’t remember if there’s a respec option built into the game or available as a cheat, but how you spec really changes your capabilities in dealing with swarms or single bosses. I want to say I finished D1 woth most if not all the classes, but 1 and 2 are now fused in my mind so I really couldn’t say what a game breaking build or strategy is. I do know that if you do a bad build, it can catch up with you but it can be towards the endgame when you finally notice it.
That’s really helpful. Thank you. There is no native re-spec option or event that I can tell.
I spec’d my Warrior by adding points fairly evenly across the board. Every time I leveled up, each stat would get at least 1 point since I wasn’t sure what would matter most, or when it might matter. I guess I should have put more into strength and dexterity first… maybe even exclusively. Back to the drawing board, I suppose.
It’s been way too long since I played D1 to give specific advice, but as a general rule you absolutely cannot spec as a generalist, especially in older games. Instead (and forgive me if I get any of these details wrong, it’s the general idea that I’m going for) you want to go pretty much all in on a strategy like Whirlwind with both talents and gear.
Also just to mention - you can pick up a franchise like Diablo pretty much anywhere. I loved D1 when it came out, and the same with D2, but anything I still get out of them is nostalgia. I enjoy D3 and haven’t yet picked up D4, but I will once the game starts to settle down on the steam deck or switch. In any case, although there’s sort of a plot line that ties them all together, it’s not like reading Return o the King without having read Fellowship. Like Elder Scrolls, they’re stand alone games where you get some lore tie-in but it’s not necessary for enjoyment at all.
I’m pointing that out because class/spec balance issues have been mostly sorted out by now. You can dial in the level of twitch-click challenge based on game settings, but my jam has always been exploration and discovery rather than figuring out the exact sequence of key taps to kill a boss.
I think this is a problem with any sequel to a game that features multiple biomes as locations. Metroid Prime had a lot of distinct locations: a volcano, an icy ruins, abandoned villages and temples, a crashed ship/underwater section, etc. So if when making a sequel, you have to consider if reusing these types of areas will make it feel too much like the original.
I do agree that the environment of Metroid Prime 2 is kind of bland, but there are at least some distinct parts I can remember, like the swampier area, or the dessert. I prefer that to every game being a march through the same cookie cutter areas every time.
I see what you’re saying, but I still think the environment feels uninspired. I’m guessing I’m about halfway through the game. I’ve just got the grapple beam. I’m looking forward to finishing it so I can move on. It’s enjoyable enough to keep me playing, but I don’t look forward to it the same way that I look forward to a prime 1 replay.
I remember reading an interview with the devs when MP2 came out that they wanted the areas to feel less “video-gamey”, where you had a fire level, an ice level, etc, and wanted more natural biomes. I feel like they were successful, and despite the reuse of the world through Dark Aether, it feels varied and interesting.
It’s been a while since I played Okami, I think I just kept trying till I eventually got it.
Ironically, it was the fishing that got me to give up my completionist run. Couldn’t get one fish that supposedly was common. Spent at least 4 hours constantly fishing before I gave up
Been playing LunarLux, delightful little game. It’s like the people behind it were like “What if we take the Mega Man Battle Network aesthetics, general vibes and battle system but have combat be turn based and get the player to dodge attacks like in Undertale sometimes?”
I have tons of nostalgia for the MMBN games so this doesn’t come from an unbiased place but man, they’ve nailed the sheer Saturday morning cartoon energy the originals had down to a T. The scale is a lot smaller but I can’t wait to see what the studio comes up with next if they decide to follow up on this!
Unfortunately haven’t had much time to play but i’ve been playing elden ring again. I’m juat getting to Morgott. And witcher 3 (which i’ve had for probably 6 years now and never beat) i’m in skellige trying to finish the quest where we help them figure out who should be the next leader
Journey to the savage planet. Been placing through a coop campaign with a friend and it really good. The tounge in check humour is great, awesome parkour dynamics, beautiful environments. First game in a while I've wanted to 100%.
I’ve been playing the Witness for the first time, and it’s great. I’ve been doing it as part of a group randomizer though, which makes it so hard lol One day I’ll figure out what all these shapes mean
