Meanwhile in non-deaf world, we stifle our happiness and fight to hold back giggle fits in case someone gets upset for causing a ruckus.

Joking aside, you’re making me think. Is this like the fish situation, where as long as it’s the same species or general “fish” it stays singular, but if you’re talking about multiple species specifically then it’s fishes?
Classy, I feel like cheeses is the correct form here since it is actually several different kinds of cheese.
