God, Astarion's VA is so fucking good, even in a cast of great VAs

vsh, in Neil Newbons performance is unreal

Yeah because developers spend their time editing face expression when the character is looking away from the camera. Big cap🧢

Darthjaffacake,

Nah I’m pretty sure it’s mocap so it’s actually more effort to remove it than just keep whatever expression the actor is making

CaptPretentious,

… Big cap…? What? I was going to guess that it was something spelled wrong or autocorrect got you but there’s literally a baseball cap next to it so it’s intentional.

vsh,

It’s gen z slang

mnoram, in Neil Newbons performance is unreal

Since it wasn’t expected to be seen is that just the default blank expression for the face mesh or whatever? I’ve been playing the game but ended up killing him at the very first conversation so…

Anticorp, in Neil Newbons performance is unreal

But… he gets a happy buff every time you let him bite someone. Buffs don’t lie.

lowleveldata, in Neil Newbons performance is unreal

I just tell him to go bite some animals instead so he can be honestly sad. You’re welcome Astarion.

Bob_Robertson_IX, in Best throwaway line in your opinion.

When Shadowheart licks the spider meat and starts to get turned on, Karlach says “Do I smell beef?”

givesomefucks, (edited ) in Neil Newbons performance is unreal

It’s way more likely that he smiled when no one could see and composed himself before turning around and pretending to look remorseful.

Edit:

Read it wrong, chill out guys

Stamets,
@Stamets@startrek.website avatar

Well, given that’s literally not what happened, I’m not sure why that’s more likely. The actual scene itself shows that Astarion is smiling in your face and doesn’t show any remorse or guilt or any other feelings. He only displays those when his face is hidden from the player/cameras typical view. You don’t pretend to look remorseful when no one can see you. There’s no point to it.

glimse,

I feel like you didn’t read the text. I’m also questioning if you even played his story in the game.

He’s not my favorite character but he’s well-written and you’d know how stupid your “way more likely” assumption is if you followed his story arc

givesomefucks,

Oh no, I definitely read it wrong…

Just not sure why people act like it’s such a big issue. It’s a great videogame, but it’s still just a video game.

Cringe2793,

It’s the same reason people get excited over movies, or sports. It’s just a game, but it’s exciting and people can’t help getting attached to the characters and players.

ChickenLadyLovesLife, in Are you fucking *kidding me?!?*

Back in high school I invented a runic language like this and I used it to cheat in German class. I was always drawing fantasy/scifi scenes on my notebooks and I would write all the German verb declensions into the scenes, like on Thor’s chest or the side of a spaceship or whatever, and then have the notebook on the floor while taking the test. Straight As in German and now I can’t fucking speak German.

captain_samuel_brady,

I hope you can at least still speak the ancient runes of the Chicken Lady.

postmateDumbass,

What an enigma you represent.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

Underrated pun. Nice.

threelonmusketeers,

Can you still read and write in your runic language?

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

I can’t even read and write English any more.

Hubi,
@Hubi@feddit.de avatar

That’s a pretty genius way to cheat, impressive.

toastus,

Guter Trick, trotzdem schade eigentlich.

masquenox,

now I can’t fucking speak German.

I took German for two years without cheating and I can’t speak German, either. Classrooms are the worst places to learn languages, period.

neshura,
@neshura@bookwormstory.social avatar

At some point I switched my games from German to English, my English skills probably improved more in the first two months of doing that than in the 4 years of classroom English I had before then.

I’ve heard similar from the people who took French or Spanish as ellectives, it seems schools are the worst place to actually learn a language (I’d say including your native one, I learned more about German in Philosophy class than in German class)

This is how I name characters and places when I write

Anticorp, in I really feel for Daddy Halsin

I wish there was a Githyanki in my camp. All I found of her was an open cage and a couple of dead tieflings.

hh93,

Wait that can happen?

Does it happen if you rest too often? Or is it triggered by getting to the grove or something like that before stumbling over her?

Anticorp, (edited )

Idk what triggers it, maybe getting to the grove. I went a different way by jumping over some fire, so I had already done the fight at the grove, and made it to the goblin camp with just Shadowheart. But every fight was so hard that I took to the internet and discovered I was supposed to meet her and Astarion. I went back and Astarion was there, but she was gone. Now I finally met Karlach and Wyll too, but defeated the entire goblin camp first, and failed the fight at Grimforge before finding them. I’ve made it all the way to level 6 without a tank.

hh93,

I mean it’s not as if the game has an aggro mechanic - right now at the beginning of act 3 my bard is the character with the highest AC in my party (Karlach, Shadowheart and Astarion) - I feel as if debuffing or just sniping away enemies is much more important than high health and heavy armor

Anticorp,

It’s good to know that there’s no aggro mechanism, but the enemies do tend to attack whoever is closest to them, except for rangers and wizards, who seem to always target my wizard. I used Shadowheart as my pseudo tank until I found Karlach, and now I try to get her to absorb as much of the damage as possible, since Shadowheart has a helmet that heals her when she heals someone else. Her heals aren’t very strong, but they definitely determine the outcome of some fights. What I’ve missed most is the charge that Githyanki girl had, and someone to wear heavy armor. I didn’t craft the splint mail at the forge since I have no idea if I’ll ever have someone to wear it. Instead I crafted the medium armor and gave it to Karlach, and the shield for Shadowheart. But as soon as I got to act two I found a vendor shield that was just as good, or possibly better. Oh well! It’s still an amazing game.
