Not_Alec_Baldwin,

Is it wrong if I think your best performance was as yourself taking a bubble bath?

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

It’s technically our second place and it’s bigger, newer, but needs a bit of updating.

It’s not everything we wanted and between closing costs, moving costs, the exhaustion of moving and adjusting to the move I don’t think we’re going to do it again before we’re priced out of the thing we want.

We were hedging against either a bigger market correction or a bigger price explosion. Instead we just got weird global stress and fatigue.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

We’re simultaneously the horse and the rider. We’re centaurs, lol. It would be like if centaurs invented cars. They could still run for fun or for exercise, but at some point they have to accept the car is better at certain things.

A reduction in economic opportunity will naturally be met with declining birthrates which we’re already seeing. People who aren’t thriving don’t want to have children. I don’t expect that to change, I expect it to accelerate as automation reduces opportunity further and further.

You don’t need genocide, you just need to wait 80 years.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

I think there’s one important distinction.

Capitalism is a “rich-get-richer” system.

In any finite economy, this is immoral, because one person (or small group) wins, and everybody else loses. By definition. And once you’re a loser, you’re sunk.

So capitalist apologists rely on the illusion/dream of limitless growth because it means they get to pretend that when they steal from you they are somehow “creating value”.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

And the volume is cranked too high.

And they are intentionally annoying.

And the last time I had a video on without my adblocker, an ad came on that was literally a person acting like they were a content creator. It was over 3 minutes long. I was only half paying attention (I was driving and just listening to the video) and when I realized it was wrong I thought I had bumped the phone and changed videos. It was so disorienting.

All the ads are lies or propaganda. I hate them. I actively avoid products that find a way to force their ads in front of my face.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

Don’t be evil.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

It’s not a subtle ad. Google has sold the top slots of your search to companies in exchange for money.

When your search for “Excel”, Google doesn’t try to find you the most relevant result. They find you the highest paying ad, and then what you’re searching for.

The article sure reads like AI word salad. Unfortunately it’s just legible enough that it could just be a dumb human with a thesaurus.

The government website is way more readable.

gov.uk/…/the-bletchley-declaration-by-countries-a…

Lol.

“In recognition of the transformative positive potential of AI, and as part of ensuring wider international cooperation on AI, we resolve to sustain an inclusive global dialogue that engages existing international fora and other relevant initiatives and contributes in an open manner to broader international discussions, and to continue research on frontier AI safety to ensure that the benefits of the technology can be harnessed responsibly for good and for all. We look forward to meeting again in 2024.”

The takeaway:

we resolve to sustain an inclusive global dialogue that engages existing international fora and other relevant initiatives and contributes in an open manner to broader international discussions, and to continue research on frontier AI safety to ensure that the benefits of the technology can be harnessed responsibly for good and for all.

Minus the bs:

We resolve to keep talking about this. Let’s meet again next year.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

Yeah I’m as confident about the shit chocolate as this guy is about the chocolate shit.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

Literally all modern evidence points to the healthier tribal and nomadic humans having animal-based diets.

Healthier teeth, healthier skin and hair, longer lifespans, better musculature.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

I definitely have one of these.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

Firefox with Adblocker Ultimate working fine for me as of last night. I’ll check again tonight.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

I literally don’t understand why people have a hard time with this.

Israel has organized, funded armed forces wearing uniforms. Hamas has teenagers in street clothes hiding in hospitals, schools, and houses.

Israel attempts to protect it’s citizens, Hamas uses human shields.

If you agree with the actions of Hamas, which are designed to maximize fear and force Israeli troops to make hard decisions during combat, you support terrorists. Just admit it. Calling Hamas a terrorist organization isn’t necessarily perjorative. But it is perfectly descriptive.

If you don’t like that you support terrorists, then you have some deep reflecting to do.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

That was a really long post. Nothing you said refuted anything I said. You’re literally doing the thing I’m talking about.

Do you support Hamas? Just admit it.

After a decade of near-zero conflict Hamas unilaterally launched the largest offensive between the two states in a decade. They murdered babies and tortured and paraded civilian hostages around. They can’t be trusted and should be destroyed.

In the last decade since the last Israel/Palestine “war” in 2014 Israel has had barely any military action against Palestine. It’s not like there’s some kind of genocide happening - if Israel wanted genocide Gaza could be wiped from the planet overnight.

Gaza has no democracy, no legitimate government, no industry, no trade. So no hope for the future. Countries don’t want to take Palestinian refugees because they attempt coups and threaten to destabilize regions.

The instant that Gaza forms a legitimate democratic government the attacks would stop. The moment that Gazans formed a non military state, the conflict stops.

Don’t get me wrong here - the situation for non-radicalized Palestinians is total dog shit. They are the biggest victims here but the blame falls on Hamas in my view.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

“some brands of bikes” make frames out of carbon fiber with wireless derailleurs and have rear facing radar to detect when other bikes or vehicles are approaching, how fast, and on which side.

When your exercise, your recreation, your hobby, and your transportation are all the same thing, it’s easy to justify spending more to make those things as easy and pleasant as possible.

You can get a perfectly usable bike for very little money in America… Probably still made in China though 😂

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

I’m just glad Florida is “gator” and not “Florida man”.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

What’s Threads?

No, nevermind, I don’t want to know.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

It’s a memorial urn. My mother bought a few for family that wanted something to remember her by, but her ashes aren’t in it. They’ve been scattered.

So it’s really just sentimental clutter.

Some people are really attached to physical representations of things. They want a grave site to visit, or an urn to have. It’s probably just a mental thing, but it seems to be really common.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

Talking out of my ass here, but I’ve heard that stabbing is a more personal crime. You need to get closer so it’s more likely to be someone that feels deeply threatened or personally hurt.

That might be why we see these antisemitic attacks being stabbings, because the extremists feel deeply terrified and hurt.

I’m not justifying the crime - it’s evil and they need to be locked up. But we need to understand where this extremism is coming from if we want to stop it.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

Yeah people don’t seem to be understanding that this is a technical and pragmatic issue, not a business decision.

It’s the “new and improved” problem. If it’s new, it’s not improved. And if it’s improved, it’s not new.

If you want a new, cutting edge game, you aren’t just improving the old game. So the old stuff likely won’t be compatible.

If you want an improvement/extension of the old game, you won’t be getting a shiny new game.

They made the choice to make a shiny new game but they need to try to prevent the inevitable backlash from people being upset that they’re favorite X/Y/Z is missing.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

Star Citizen only feels like it’s been in alpha for 65 years.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

Also wait for sales.

$404 divided over 10 years is different than as a lump. But getting the whole bundle for 80% off because it’s been successfully developed for 10 years is value.

Not_Alec_Baldwin, (edited )

I too am an Adam Something fan. 😂

Edit: the reference www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHnYod32PCk

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

Oh!

www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHnYod32PCk

Adam Something just released a C:S2 video where he removed roads and messed with traffic logic.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

NewPipe works too

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

This is his approach to IP broadly speaking, I believe.

Edit for clarity:

If you can’t effectively try something without paying, pirate it and pay if you want to and can support it.

It’s a goodwill model.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

I’d happily pay for YouTube if they hadn’t done bullshit free shenanigans to kill their competition while expanding their reach.

I’ll never pay for YouTube now.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

Anything that can happen will happen, and because the manual is finite, eventually the will be a situation that the company is unprepared for.

Take responsibility, yes, but don’t act beyond your authority. Tell the person that you’ll find out, and ask the appropriate person.

If there is time pressure, don’t take on more than you can reliably handle - don’t take info and promise to contact the person unless you can do that. It’s always better to give the person contact information and ask them to call or come back.

For years companies loved “I can” statements. “I can help you with that”, “I can find out for you”, etc. But I think that might have fallen out of favor, check with someone younger than me (lol!).

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

Yep, I got an EV purely for the savings.

Not_Alec_Baldwin, (edited )

The real controversy seems to be around her calling them fromage fighters.

Edit: FREEDOM fighters lmao, but I can’t bring myself to fix it.

More presumed human remains recovered from submersible that imploded, killing 5, Coast Guard says (apnews.com)

The Coast Guard has recovered remaining debris, including presumed human remains, from a submersible that imploded on its way to explore the wreck of the Titanic, killing all five onboard, deep beneath the Atlantic Ocean’s surface, officials said Tuesday....

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

Everyone knows exactly how it failed.

They used GLUE to stick carbon fiber to titanium.

All three of those components behave very different under pressure.

Every engineer warned them against the use of carbon fiber and the bonehead CEO insisted because he liked it.

It’s literally an ego trip that got 5 people killed.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

What are you even talking about?

There is no technically beneficial reason to using carbon fiber in a submarine hull. It won’t happen again, and it shouldn’t have happened in the first place.

It’s like making a car out of Swiss cheese, it’s just pointless.

The data is not important.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

That’s because the manager is incentivized to not help you, while the union is incentivized to help you.

Unions are game-theoretically necessary.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

Costco is (afaik) not unionized, though the company is union friendly (there may be unionized stores?). They are publicly traded. And workers are paid better than a living wage and have a bunch of benefits.

The company chooses to do this despite their shareholder responsibility, and I will never shut up about it.

Once you’re getting a fair shake, if the company establishes trust, you can get rid of the union. And the company can save the money they spend trying to ruin your lives on something else instead. Not all companies are trash.

But most are.

It’s absolutely vital for governments to promote workers’ ability to unionize and provide employees with rights to protect them from corporate greed.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

Costco.

It’s not all companies that are trash. It’s just most.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

Lemmy leans significantly harder left than Reddit did, I think. It’s hard to have discussions about any of the leftist talking points.

Thankfully lemmy also doesn’t have karma so who tf cares, right?

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

GOTH GIRLS LIKE HALLOWEEN

AUTUMN GIRLS LIKE AUTUMN

AUTUMN AND HALLOWEEN HAPPEN IN THE SAME SEASON

THIS IS A BAD COMIC

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

If you don’t like the price hikes CANCEL YOUR SUBSCRIPTION.

Stop with all the belly aching. They cancel all the good shows early anyway. I killed my sub years ago and it’s been a great choice.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

They dominated the market. Their model REQUIRES growth to continue for it to make sense (stock ponzi) so they need to find ways to promise profits to shareholders.

They can’t easily attract new customers so instead they are obligated to squeeze existing customers.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

Ahh, I see I’m not the only fan of the lockpicking lawyer.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

Reduce wealth and income inequality somehow. There’s been no research on UBI reducing crime afaik and honestly I don’t know that it would work for that. People need to feel like they are doing valuable work.

Cops on foot patrol in neighborhoods NOT to punish anyone but literally just to get to know the community and make eye contact.

Access to training and education to promote moving into higher income and responsibility jobs.

Mental health support (although people won’t want help as long as they are Fighting against the system)

There need to be healthy, organic, non-crime non-drug non-gang groups for people to be part of. I don’t know what is are into these days. Basketball? Dancing on Tiktok? Anything social.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

IIRC Singapore has a very specific and controlling demographic control system? Like regions have to have demographic breakdowns that approximate the national numbers or something?

There are a bunch of social engineering things you can do to reduce crime. But good luck trying to tell Americans where they can and can’t move. Probably easier to just tax the super rich.

Not_Alec_Baldwin,

I’m a cynic and I find myself pretty perpetually expecting the worse from humanity.

But sometimes we really pull it together and knock it out of the park.

I think it’s great to have high hopes, I wish I had the fortitude to stay positive more often.
