I use neither.

In the United States here and I haven’t had non-streaming television since I moved out of my parent’s house.

Toyed with things like Sling and YouTube TV once, but they just aren’t worth it.

If I watch any shows or movies it is from a selfhosted Jellyfin server. No need for any subscriptions or cable TV.

Where I live, you get very little over air TV. In fact, I’m not sure there’s anything now.

We don’t pay for TV, but I have a little yo-ho-ho station, check out DVDs from the library, stream, or occasionally watch one of those free Pluto channels if I just want background noise

ghashul,

I’ve never had TV since I moved out from home.

TV? What’s that?

Everything through my laptop. Except for a shared Netflix account that costs me 5 bucks a month, and I only watch it on my phone.

How does it cost $5/month?

shared

Aha, thanks

Mothra,

We split the costs, as I said my part is 5. Because shared.

Makes perfect sense now. I think my brain had a moment

TV? What’s that?

We all know Frankenstein is the doctor, not the monster.

knobbysideup,

Ota + Plex + pluto

Marxist1312,

I have over the air, but I mostly use the internet

angstylittlecatboy,

USA: Have an antenna for OTA, don’t actually use it much.

Efwis,

USA here. Where I live if you want to watch anything you have to pay for it or ride the high seas. OTA doesn’t work in rural communities, this signal is too weak from the big cities, and even in the city OTA can be questionable based on location.

Catsrules,

Never had problems with OTA signal in my area. I did have a antenna on the roof in all of my locations so that might have helped.

Efwis,

Yea, see I live in an apartment, so I am stuck using those indoor antennas

Semi-Hemi-Demigod,
@Semi-Hemi-Demigod@kbin.social avatar

I had an antenna set up to see what I could get, and I can pick up affiliates from all the major networks, which is nice.

But it's so full of commercials I can't stand watching anything other than PBS so I took it down.

Catsrules,

Yeah you really need something to record the TV then watch it later skipping the commercials in order for it to be useful.

Bishma,
@Bishma@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

I have an OTA antenna but it’s really just there in case we need news and the internet is out. In the same we that there’s a crank radio in my emergency supplies. Everything else is Roku.

Nighed,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

My TV is used for F1 (via now TV - internet stream) and occasionaly YouTube and occasionaly video/games of my laptop.

If I did watch TV content it would likely be on iPlayer etc as I would never know when to watch things live

I use over-the-air supplemented by a few streaming services. After years of cable, it was startling how much better the picture and sound are with OTA. It used to be that cable was better quality, but they have compressed it down to the point where it is just barely acceptable.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

Neither at the moment, but cable is actually getting more appealing giving the constant splintering of streaming services.
