why don’t you just take a vitamin for magnesium and other minerals, and just drink normal water?

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

just seems very strange, cost-prohibitive, and bad for the environment.

JINA App Drawer.

My most used app on my device.

Basically lets you swipe up from the home button to reveal a customized grid of apps + app search.

Makes it so:

  • I never have to go back to my home screen to launch a new app
  • I can use my entire home screen for widgets and to just look nice

Privacy benefits of Custom roms

So recently my moto G60 reached the end of life with respect to security updates. That was the reason I was using to prevent myself from switching to a custom rom(actual reason is laziness). This phone has rom support for pixel experience and lineage OS. So my questions are if pixel experience has any privacy advantages when...

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

as you didn’t mention Calyx, are there any security/privacy benefits of using it?

everytime elon musk so much as farts, it must be posted to at least 10 different communities here and discussed at length

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

oh cool, i’ll just eliminate billionaires then, that’s pretty easy for me to do.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

should probably at least give a search term so people can look it up.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

they’ve been posting their dumb political takes for years now.

Unusual advice:

I use Jina app drawer

play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobeedo…

It allows you to swipe up from the home button and access a selected grid of apps, and quickly search for any installed apps.

Lets me keep my homescreen pristine, and only display art/widgets.

So it really doesn’t matter what my launcher is.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

are you using gestures?

I suspect that might cause a conflict.

I use the 3 button nav on my phone.

you could add a hotspot on the lower left and right sides.

@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

A good tip about 401k is to increase it by 1% every year, you’ll never notice the change and continue saving more and more.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

pretty bold of them.

at least youtube actually offers a valuable service in return.

just to give an argument for the option most folks are not choosing.

I work for a huge old company and here are some of the benefits:

  • Good pay
  • Great work/life balance. putting in over 40hrs/week is unheard of, no crunch time
  • Size of the company allows for movement to different tech areas
  • Very stable, great job security

Now granted, we are totally WFH, don’t think I would be willing to do an in-person job with a suit every day, but there is an argument to make for making more money when you’re younger that you can start investing early.

The lack of bleeding edge tech could also be used to your advantage if you could spearhead leading a more modern initiative.

I’m not sure how large the pay difference is, but it sounds like your heart is leaning towards the start up.

In the end, you’ll just have to weigh the positives and negatives and figure out what you truly want.

The vanishing of the small high-end smartphone (www.smh.com.au)

Manufacturers don’t make displays under 6 inches available for purchase, with special cases (such as the iPhone Mini) being made under exclusive contracts. The best lead they have so far is to try to use displays designed for the front part of a foldable phone, but they’re yet to strike an agreement....

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

the sad reality is many people will say they want a small phone like this, but then not buy it for some reason or another, then they sell less, and so companies abandon making them.

I am a very happy owner of a ZF10 too, lovely device.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

it’s not that you want to, but rather that the companies want to charge you $100 more for $5 of ROM.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

If you look at the S or iPhone series you’ll see that the larger versions sell far far more.

What can i do with 3d models as an everyday joe?

i recently found an ai that makes 3d models from text. ive been messing around with it a tiny bit but now i have a handful of 3d models that im not sure what to do with. the bad thing is i have like no skills and they are not the best looking either. i would 3d print them but i dont own a 3d printer because they are pricey....

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

you can get an Ender 3 on sale for $100.

probably cheaper to invest in one rather than continuously pay for a service to print them off.

some libraries will 3D print stuff for very cheap though.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

kind of like telling a heroin addict to just stop doing heroin.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

but you can’t add a bunch off apps.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

many dumphones have these functions.

calculator and GPS is not what most people think of from the phrase “a bunch of apps”

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve run into this before on archive.org, incredibly annoying.

I believe there are utilities that can capture and join together JPEGs into a PDF, but it seems they purposefully uploaded a very low res version to prevent that.

Hate to say, but I don’t see a way around it.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

check this out, autohotkey script that screenshots and flips pages:

autohotkey.com/…/58115-auto-screen-capture-script…

Seems after that you can select all the pages in windows explorer, hit print, and choose PDF.

drinking alcohol is not a hobby

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

latest one is making pixel art.

wanted to get into the hobby, so for Christmas I am making my wife a picture of each of the vacations we’ve been on.

this is a work in progress of a church on a hill we saw in Iceland:

i.imgur.com/TqLk5G0.png

Also, smoking meat.

Has been so much fun to learn and has resulted in some of the best food we have ever had.

Also, setting up a retro emulator with an old phone.

Currently procuring ROMs, organizing them, and getting a good front end and emu cores configured.

Playing through pokemon ROM hacks has been fun.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

i really want to get into airsoft, but there are hardly and fields or people nearby me.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

tell me a bit about drying meat and making sausage.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

hey, fair enough.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

thank you!

one thing I did not expect was how much more difficult it is than “regular art.”

and I still suck at it lmao

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

looks nice 😎

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

very fascinating thank you, may have to try this out.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

ha, well i have also been working on this for probably 10 hours in total.

it definitely takes effort.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

is it as locked down and censored as Bing and CGPT are?

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

I have Photoshop with the generative AI options.

It’s almost impossible to get it to work with anything peach to brown shaded, because it (presumably) thinks I’m doing something NSFW.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

i pay my subscription in Argentine dollars 😁

seems turkey is the cheapest now, but a little hesitant to cancel and try to resubscribe from there in case it doesn’t work…

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

you know what, i’m just gonna cancel the whole thing.

hope this was worth it for them.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

i’ll setup vanced and try my luck with adblockers.

I don’t mind tinkering with it to get it working.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

Why these over ReVanced?

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

I’ll give them a try.

I do have NewPipe installed already, but I just use it to download a video if I need it.

Will try it out full time as well as the other app.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

been using Libretube btw, very nice app.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

we have no idea what you are talking about

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

opioids kill 70k people per year in the US alone.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

that doesn’t take into account how commonly it’s used though.

far far more people drink alcohol.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

hey that is actually pretty cool.

if it weren’t for the price, I’d probably pick one up.

I’m surprised they haven’t been cloned and sold for much less.

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

ok cool thank you for clearing that up

applejacks,
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

what is the benefit of sandboxing your work apps?

tangible, mental, or otherwise?
