It is I, the great and powerful Arch Wizard of Mastodon. I have used my arcane magicks to post this to Lemmy. You must like, boost, or reply to this post within one day, or else I will manifest within your abode to install a GNU/Linux distro on your computer.

Unfortunately yes. If I’m making a post in Mastodon that I link to Lemmy, I make sure to put all the hash tags last to hopefully avoid this mess.

I’m not sure why hashtags are handled like this in Lemmy post titles.

is making the watching experience worse on and Microsoft Edge.

I didn't believe it the first time I heard abt it, since it sounded more like a conspiracy theory than a actual thing, but it's true. Google does add 5s timeout specifically to Firefox and Edge users when they try to watch a video on YT. If you want to know more about it, Mental Outlaw make a very good video abt it (Link: https://youtu.be/v4gXhmzQztE ). I think Google did this, to get people moving to Chrome since the majority will think this is a browser issue, nobody would expect YouTube to purposely doing this. In the attached Screenshot you can see that YouTube checks the user agent of browsers to see if it's Edge, Firefox or not. You can bypass this by changing your User agent to chrome.

Edit: Due a lot of people saying a lot of different things abt it, I want to say that I'm not 100% sure abt how exactly this works, there is a inbuild delay by Google, but who is actually affected, there are a lot of different opinions abt it. I wasn't able to verify this myself in LibreWolf, but this could be the case due my intensive hardening I did and this is just a result of what I found in the code and what Mental Outlaw and others shared across social media, if you got different or additional infos abt this feel free to comment and I suggest everyone ti also check the comment section.

It would be a lot more conclusive if you could find somewhere the isGecko function is being used in association with a delay though, there are other things they could use it for.

[OC] Neighbor's house just went up.

Not sure how long it was going before the fire department arrived, but it was maybe ten minutes between when I heard the sirens and the fire was under control.

Firefighters on top of the house, apparently , cutting a hole in the roof to vent the heat and smoke.

dankm ,

It’s worse than that. The SK government used to run a bus service all over the province. They shut it down, expecting a private company to take over. To the surprise of absolutely nobody now we have no transportation at all between cities and towns that isn’t the occasional plane or cars.

That is the problem. Need more trains, stations and routes.

Your worries are perfectly fine. I would say that being open source is what makes Openreads so great. The app is licensed as GPLv2 so everyone can use it and modify it forever. Not like other proprietary apps that the second they stop making profit can be closed with no option to migrate to any other service.

I have over 18 years of experience in the field and have worked with desktop and mobile software on Windows, Mac, iOS, Android and Windows Mobile/Windows Phone. Unfortunately my knowledge of Linux is very limited but I'm eager to learn. Could you help me find a project? @thelinuxEXP @linux @macrumors @windowscentral @windows

@asklemmy

The logical fallacy here being that, based on that context alone, you should care because you will have something to hide in the future. Saying you have nothing to hide is always used in the context of one’s sense of guilt, or lack thereof, based on past actions. A counterargument would then be to ask why you should be allowed to hide your future wrongs.

For many, the subject has nothing to do with that. It’s about not wanting to be monetized without consent. There’s also benefits in the form of protection against identity theft or social engineering. For others, the simple right to fundamental personal privacy itself is important - it’s about not having all of one’s life’s details on public display.

Also known as “none of your goddamn business.”

As a tangent, because it’s now stuck in my head and needs expression - the more thought you give to the problems introduced by technology that blur or step over this line, the more you realize how much harder it’s becoming to prevent outcomes where privacy is lost.

Only engaging AI under tightly controlled circumstances is one thing; having it in the background perceiving everything you say and do on your desktop is a very different conversation. No matter what assurances are given that your privacy is protected, almost every situation like it that’s arisen since the advent of personal computers has resulted in a loss of control through duplicity, intrusion, sabotage, bad design, or floundering integrity.

philluminati ,

Conspiratorial but has a string of possibility.

User: What are you doing?

Microsoft and Motherboard manufacturers: Putting DRM chips on the motherboard.

User: Why?

Microsoft: No reason.

User: Most businesses would switch to a cheaper toilet paper to save $5, why are you shipping chips and developing software and technology to use these chips.

Microsoft: Oh we’re not going to force anyone to do anything, we just want the ability to. Look at this workaround that we expect 0.015 of our billions of Windows users to use.

Eine Grauzone wäre vermutlich auch moralisch der rein private Gebrauch im kleinen Kreis, aber den dann auch klein zu halten… So oder so, lieber fragen.
