Driving 8 hours round trip today to pick up one person, and I'll never understand why Americans think this is more convenient than my colleague taking a train.

I think it also has something to do with sharing space with other people, which they're not used to.

True, but it's a bit more than that. They seem to think that cars are always the ultimate in convenience. I know a couple that opted to drive in central London instead of taking the tube. 🙄

This is the second article today that has mentioned Mastodon, and not in a horribly dismissive way. Hmm...

The focus of the article is on Threads' failings, which Instagram chief Adam Mosseri acknowledged. They relied too much on Instagram and missed the mark completely as to what a Twitter alternative needed to be.

"On Instagram, people are more likely to follow brands, engage with memes, follow celebrities, etc. On Threads, which is more like X, you’re more likely to want to follow professional industry profiles and influencers, or people who post good text-based content, as opposed to cool images and video."

Threads engaged with admins on Mastodon. How the hell did they not understand that an alternative would be based on good content rather than corporate brands?

@Hey_Beth What I don’t understand is why they can’t accept that the platforms are simply pusuing different audiences now. People are self-sorting now that the landscape is fragmented.

Hashtags are important in the , for both following and muting, but people don't seem to be using them as much as they could, even the obvious ones. That's understandable. Remembering and typing them can get tedious.

So, a little : instead of typing de novo each time, keep a running collection of ones you use in a document. That way, you can copy many hashtags, paste, and delete any irrelevant ones.

I keep mine in an email draft, grouped by category.
