victorz,

This is why I turn on the audio normalization on my TV. It makes the explosions sound super weird but it’s impossible to watch movies with kids sleeping otherwise. The mixing is so bad.

victorz,

Watching TV is also shit. When an ad break comes, I have to mute the sound or turn down the volume, regardless of normalization. That should be illegal in my opinion but it’s the status quo.

victorz,

I’m gonna just jump into the deep end and blurt out that I can’t freaking stand the cadence of his voice. It’s so choppy. And the inflections are just so off. I know he’s not a native speaker and all that but… God. It’s almost unbearable to me. I can’t compensate for it.

victorz,

And the Gen Z is… reading a newspaper? Nah fam, I don’t think that’s what’s going on.

victorz,

No I don’t think we do. I sure as hell don’t. Yes indeed, we are, and we did. That’s why I think the whole comic is bullshit, like wtf is this whole thing? Feels like some Gen X or earlier is trying out this web comic thing. I don’t even know.

victorz,

lol

victorz,

City runs on water power from the river and the apartment building has solar panels on the roof. I keep my computer on 24/7. 😬

victorz,

That’s not the shocker you might have thought it was going to be, Mr. SatansMaggotyCumFart.

victorz,

You certainly used it as such, as an argument against people doing whatever pleases them. Or maybe I misinterpreted…

victorz,

Is that a good thing? 🫣

victorz,

I dunno, I had cats who lived to be like 18-19 years, so almost two decades. I can’t imagine how miserable they’d be if they lived to be 40…

victorz,

Still, that’s a lot.

victorz,

Someone has to be!

victorz,

How do people like you find the time to work?

victorz,

You’re doing great. What helped me quit when I was a teenager was to always know where my nail clippers were, and have fast access to them. So whenever I had an urge due to an uneven nail edge, I’d just smooth it out with clippers or a nail file. Really made it simple to quit.

victorz,

Ah okay, I figured it had to be a situation like that. Although I was hoping you were just rich, lol.

Sorry to hear that. I hope I didn’t offend you.

victorz,

Awesome! Stay strong, friend!

victorz,

Haha that would be an incredible consumption of books in that case 😅

BruceTwarzen, to asklemmy

Is there a Spotify alternative that has no ads?

I pay for Spotify for 7 years or so now and i'm so sick of all the ads. After every update there seems to be an: oops, sorry, you have ads now. Podcasts are filled with ads. I was just listening to a podcast where they shoved in 3 ads mid-sentence. How long until musicians put ads in their songs. I'm just so sick of it.

victorz,

Can you share the news?

victorz,

Oof. I’m glad I don’t listen to genres where this happens, then. 😅

victorz,

Sun sets at like 1 PM where I live, midwinter. It’s depressing.

victorz,

Got a brand to recommend? Sounds awesome.

victorz,

Modern induction hobs usually have built-in timers and boil sensing, which is nice. No need for an extra appliance.

victorz,

To add: not everyone needs to shower daily, either. I don’t have a physical job, I shower maybe twice a week. More than enough for me. Also use Aleppo soaps, because they keep you clean longer. High oil percentage.

victorz,

Ah okay, my mistake. Maybe I misunderstood what an Instapot actually does, or what kind of product it is. Should’ve looked it up before commenting.

victorz,

Sounds like you don’t have enough experience with talking to people about hygiene? I know many people who don’t shower daily and are perfectly hygienic and not smelly at all, me included, and my wife. Kids definitely usually don’t need to bathe daily either. Sometimes weekly is enough. Especially infants shouldn’t rinse too much, else they develop skin problems.

If you spend all day doing nothing and reek?? Sounds like a you problem. Probably genetic.

Research Aleppo soaps. Might actually help you!

Good luck, stinky! ❤️😊

victorz,

Not bathing kids more than once a week is insane.

I didn’t say “not more than once a week”, I said “sometimes weekly is enough”. So at least once a week. At least. Big difference.

But daily isn’t necessary, in fact probably more harmful than good unless they’re really muddy or soiled themselves in other ways.

Our kids keep clean. Wash hands before and after each meal, after coming home from outside, etc. Winter time is here so they have warm clothes and play in the snow, so no dirt.

I work as a developer, lots of time sitting still. Mostly just shower after exercising at the gym a few times per week. That’s enough. Otherwise no smell.

It definitely ain’t me stinking lol.

Okay? Thought you said you “reek” after 1 single day of “doing nothing”? Which is it? Will you reek or won’t you reek? You might have some hormonal issues that make your skin smelly. Might want to look it up.

Good luck! 👍

victorz,

If it’s an addiction, the answer is simple. Yes. Uninstall and enjoy life.

victorz,

Also check out the Bertinet Method. Slap and Fold, baby.

victorz,

Uninstalled X, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit apps; installed Boost for Lemmy, Mastodon. Would be cool to try Matrix instead of Discord if the experience is the same. But my friends wouldn’t switch based on ideology. 😑

victorz,

That’s also my problem with Mastodon. Want to use it over Twitter, it’s a good form of broadcasting for updates to my interests/followed organizations/products/etc. But nobody’s there… 🤷‍♂️

victorz,

Can recommend Boost for Lemmy. Was a great app for Reddit earlier. They converted their app to Lemmy pretty darn fast. Sync for Lemmy is also good but is subscription based unlike Boost.

victorz,

Have another go at this train of thought, mate… You’re basically saying “MM/DD” is better at sorting chronologically than “DD/MM”, since the year part is taken out of the equation, which is already the established consensus, and not ironical whatsoever. And the ISO standard is already to use YYYY-MM-DD, so that’s the winner IMO, hands down. Japan is simply following that but using a slash as the delimiter.

victorz,

To light, there’s no difference in those times, as I understand. A light particle doesn’t experience traveling at all. From its own perspective, it exists where it is created, then immediately where it is absorbed, in the same instance. So you could say it doesn’t experience time at all. All of its energy exists in its velocity, and none of it in its movement through time.

Don’t ask me to prove or explain this, because I don’t remember where I heard it or if I even remember it correctly. 😅

victorz,

awesome for pranks “and stuff”

Myeah 😏

victorz,

By what you’re saying, it sounds like you’re confirming what I said, just in a different way. A photon experiences time, but in its own frame of reference, the time experienced is zero. From its perspective, the time it takes to travel from one destination to the next, is zero. Just like the clock following it would show, from our perspective. Or am I misunderstanding?

victorz,

I think the point I was trying to make was that the lifetime of the photon is nonzero to us, from our perspective, but zero to the photon, from its perspective. All of its energy is in its velocity.

Remember in Interstellar when they slingshot around the black hole and it cost them like 80 years or whatever? The time around them went by faster as a result. Well a photon going at c would see time around it going by at max time speed as well, so it would arrive at its destination immediately after it departed. (From its perspective.)

That’s how I understand it.

victorz,

Top. Least distance to travel with the mouse pointer when interacting with the rest of my computer.
