spiderman,

because they are the vendor and not fntastic

spiderman,

as if they give updates to my one year old android. they never did.

spiderman,

when only 10% of your character got downloaded

Is there any way to reverse degrowth of the niche communities on Lemmy?

Like others, I came over when Reddit was banning 3rd party apps. Many communities were being started and I wanted to help. So I chose one community to form here and try and grow. And we did! There was a time a short while in the little KC Chiefs community was in the top 100 communities on Lemmy world. I knew that wouldn’t last...

spiderman,

Content is what drags users, not yet another niche community.

Absolutely not, I had to make a post last week to find something that’s niche in reddit and not on lemmy because it had a sub and lemmy didn’t have a community on it. I always make posts on any niche community if I have to. I don’t mind whether it’s dead or not. I am sure many people feel that way too.

spiderman,

If that’s true it’s finally time to upgrade my specs a bit or even buy a new rig.

spiderman,

What are you trying to smuggle bruh?

spiderman,

sometimes you can’t find an application even when you spell it out correctly, hafta go through the apps list to find them.

spiderman,

Is it chromium based or ff based?

Firefox Got Faster for Real Users in 2023 (hacks.mozilla.org)

In order to measure the user experience, Firefox collects a wide range of anonymized timing metrics related to page load, responsiveness, startup and other aspects of browser performance. Collecting data while holding ourselves to the highest standards of privacy can be challenging. For example, because we rely on aggregated...

spiderman,

never thought a firefox fork to be faster than chrome in android

spiderman,

Better at gaming than now.

spiderman,

There are alternatives. Proton mail is a good alternative if you just want an email service provider. As for windows, you might find a right distro for you but I dont want anyone to redpill on that. As for android, there isnt any great alternatives (ios is good only when you use apple ecosystem).

spiderman,

Java is being used so much that until legacy softwares are rewritten by rust or a different language it won’t be replaced.

spiderman,

My android phone. I fucking hate redmi’s os and my device doesnt have any custom rom. I wish I could change it sooner.

spiderman,

Exactly. Amazon alternatives in India aren’t great when it comes to returns and refunds.

spiderman,

at some point, you grew up with that lmao. idt i will use my xiaomi for more than a year from now. Have been thinking about switching to something like nothing.

spiderman,

or you could use a piped instance.

spiderman,

I don’t host an instance, so I don’t know how hard it is. You can choose any popular instance like kavin.rocks if hosting doesn’t seem like a viable option.

spiderman,

I wish Kagi considers regional pricing.

spiderman,

How good is lemmy/google search (for searching lemmy’s post)? It’s not gonna be good if both are bad.

spiderman,

Confluence is one of the shittiest things I have ever had to work on.

spiderman,

Twitter once was an online townhall where people can start any movement or use it to spread their movement to wide masses. These days it’s just some shitty tool for propaganda.

spiderman, (edited )

A movement necessarily doesn’t have to be a bad movement or bad propaganda.

spiderman,

YouTube has too many ads to begin with even before watching a video. I really don’t mind if I have to watch an ad after watching 2 or more videos but imagine getting 2 ads for every video and an ad after a part of the video. Doesn’t YouTube just want to milk money as much as it can from the non YouTube premium subscribers?

spiderman,

I thought twitter reverted that decision.

spiderman,

especially the sites that have academic questions and solutions for that but they are locked behind an account and then a subscription.

spiderman,

What’s wrong with Cisco? I heard that it has a great culture and pay.

spiderman,

It’s hacktoberfest and I guess I can find some time to solve some easy issues on their repo. Thanks!

spiderman, (edited )

I respect him a lot but I don’t think people will consider comic book adaptations as the real cinema. Movies like Spiderman into the Spiderverse and Across the Spiderverse were good, even a good example for good animation. But will we call it real cinema? If we do, does it matter?

spiderman,

Yeah, the main point of mine was that different people have different views on cinema. For some, it’s art. For some, it’s an entertainment, a past time. For some, it’s business. Having a proper composition of all of these is important.

Mari Selvaraj’s Pariyerum Perumal and Vetrimaaran’s Visaranai are cinema to me, but will I suggest everyone the same movie? not.

spiderman,

Yeah, starting with MaM and RED is good.

spiderman,

you don’t need a reason to cancel a sub, if you don’t like it, just do it.

spiderman,

People just join it thinking it’s Jack Dorsey’s next twitter.

spiderman,

Invincibles was good too.

spiderman,

it still happens (at least in rural places)

spiderman,

mastadon obviously

spiderman,

Threads is trash, it’s cluttered with corporate accounts trying to be funny to market their product and there is no quality content.

spiderman,

some instances have started to block threads the moment they announced that they are working on using the ActivityPub protocol.

spiderman,

yeah threads posts are not something i wanna scroll through mastadon

spiderman,

I had to fight off a law suit for over 2 years over a single movie I torrented from Piratebay (Germany).

How serious was it and did you hire a lawyer for that?

spiderman,

I have not fully dropped lemmy but I still use it to check out the latest (tech and tech related) news. Lemmy is good at that aspect these days.

spiderman,

Lemmy

spiderman,

Not sure if it’s available on android or not.

it’s does

spiderman,

Ability to migrate account or a community to another instance.

How to seed properly and safely? [India]

I heard that in some countries you can get fined for using torrents or seeding beyond a certain limit (Das Deutschlandlied intensifies). How to seed so that no idiot government would get hands on the fact that you are downloading torrents? I am pretty sure I can do this using Tails OS but what else? Is there a safe way to SEED...

spiderman,

Just use a proper (paid) VPN service that allows port forwarding like PIA

spiderman,

It was shit even before Sundar Pichai became the CEO

spiderman,

also I think having tags for users would be a good idea, for example in niche communities that revolve around science or medicine, having a tag like “verified doctor” or “verified scientist” put a lot of weight for them while having conversations.
