I honestly think that the best (and also using a FOSS alternative) is to use Librera, available in F-Droid.

Decent YouTube client?

I’m looking for an app to browse YouTube using multiple accounts. It has to be convenient to switch between multiple accounts, and keep them separate. I’ve struggled to find a YT client that does this well, most of them seem to advertise “Use YouTube without an account”. I’d look on the app store but frankly the play...

Helping others privacy through self-hosting?

Hello all, I’m relatively new to the realm of self-hosting. Over the past few months, particularly in response to recent events, I’ve been actively advocating for privacy, security, and decentralization. Initially, I began by implementing Nextcloud for my family and friends, and later expanded to include services like...

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I guess you can self-host privacy respecting front-ends like Piped, LibReddit, Invidious, etc.

Am I running the risk of getting my Google account banned for logging into the Aurora Store or a custom rom like GrapheneOS?

I guess there is no need to introduce what a Degoogled phone is (or a custom ROM without google services, like GrapheneOS is) and the Aurora Store is basically said in a crude way the Google Playstore but without the need to log in to your Google account, quite useful in my opinion....

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I guess this is the way, I really don’t want to lose my secondary account. Thanks.

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Believe me, I also say Fuck Google, and I don’t want to get into it but there are certain apps that I download from unofficial sources (🏴‍☠️) and I really like them and consider that they deserve my money, and the only way I have is to pay for them in the Google Playstore.

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I sincerely consider that it would be permanent and without notice, because again, that’s Google and that’s how companies like Google work.

I will definitely get a spare account, thanks.

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

That’s an interesting point of view and I will take it into account, but why not use my new Google account in Aurora?

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Thanks for sharing your work at Lemmy! I say this because although I don’t use Reddit, I’m sure that logically because there are more users there and being more famous, it is the preferred platform for developers to share their work.

Think you’ll implement a replay feature in the future? I love that feature.

And is there any chance of porting your job in the future to Wayland? Currently there is no program (only OBS, as far as I know) that allows recording in Wayland, it would be great to have more options.

Genuine question, what do you mean by ¨seo-shit" from Brave Search?

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

In the case of Keepass, it is commonly said that it is best to have a database exclusively for your OTP.

For example, you have your passwords in a db called “My passwords” with an exclusive encryption password, and then another db called “My OTP’s” with its own encryption password, so if someone somehow get access to one, that person still won’t have access to the other, and therefore cannot enter your account.

Which are the best SFW extensions for Tachiyomi?

I know this is not a Christian community, but I recently discovered Tachiyomi looking for alternatives to Saikou and a good alternative to read manga (which I don’t do much, but it makes me curious) is Tachiyomi and although installing extensions is really simple the vast majority have NSFW content (or hentai?) and Jesus, I...

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar
  1. Yes, only manga.
  2. I have no problem if the extension has NSFW mixed with SFW, the problem is that most of them I tried only had weird hentai Pokemon manga. So yes!
Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I have no problem with NSFW content, since I won’t see it so I don’t care that it’s there. In general there are so many extensions that I just wanted some “general extension” that has everything, so I asked here because I installed about 15 and most of them had only NSFW content or not work at all, so maybe someone here knew more than me.

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I can confirm, it has very good content!

Why are used Samsung A71 so cheap?

I’ve had a humble A10s for several years that has worked well for me but I want to replace it with something a little better and I don’t want to go broke either, and besides, I want to emulate some simple Switch games like Hollow Knight, so I’ve been researching different devices in the $150 to $300 price range and...

This is extremely interesting, can I sync my Tasks.org ToDos with Posteo?

Edit: From what I understand, Tasks.org uses CalDav for ToDos which Posteo supports, but (and it sounds silly) do I have checkboxes in my calendar or something like that to know if a certain task is done or some way to see the ToDos in the same way I see them in Tasks.org? I hope they don’t look like just an event in the calendar.

Completely agree, as an NVIDIA user (for now) I am screwed if I am required to use Wayland. I mean, I use Wayland for a long time and it works well with NVIDIA but there are many things that don’t quite work, like many emulators (Yuzu/RPCS3) that for some reason have a strange tearing, or some programs that simply won’t open in xWayland.

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

It looks interesting, although it’s more a kanban than a ToDO, or I’m wrong?

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I’d love it but really if I could self-host an Nextcloud instance I wouldn’t self-host Vikunja, what I like about Vikunja is that in Bitwarden-style they take care of everything once you pay them, you don’t worry about managing anything else.

YouTube with recommendations based on what you watch and subscriptions

I’ve been using Invidious and NewPipe to watch YouTube for a long time. I don’t use an account with either of these. OSS Notetaking App: Notesnook (notesnook.com)

Just wanted to share my experience with notesnook as a daily note taking and information organizer app. The free tier is fairly barebones but you can use it for simple stuff, but I’ll say that the paid $50 per year tier is really nice. I’m surprised at the polish and feature set for a OSS project from 2019 but it’s also...

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

@mossy_capivara I have a genuine doubt and I swear if you convince me I will pay for Notesnook because I really wanted to pay for it a while ago.

I used Notesnook for a long time but I used it before they made the basic (unpaid) version more restrictive, where you couldn’t even put a code block without being asked to pay, but before that and after I have used Joplin + Nextcloud and I can say it’s reasonably good but what I don’t like about Joplin is that it doesn’t have background sync, do you happen to know if Notesnook has background sync or if they plan to?

And another doubt, something I love about Joplin is that I create a notebook and I can create a notebook inside that notebook, but in Notesnook I don’t remember being able to do that and that is something uncomfortable for me. I mean, in my case let’s say I have a notebook called Windows without any notes, it’s just like a base to know where my other notes are organized and inside that notebook I create other notebooks that are where I actually write my notes, for example, I create a notebook called “CLI Programs”, “Open Source Programs”, “Closed Source Programs” and everything is organized in a very comfortable way because inside the Windows notebook I have those other notebooks, and then I create a Linux Notebook and do the same, but in Notesnook I can’t do that, how would you do that for example in Notesnook? I know I could just create a notebook called “Open Source Programs - Linux” and then another one called “Open Source Programs - Windows” but I really feel that would be a mess for the view, what I like about Joplin is that I can sort my notebooks inside others in a tree style. In my case, within “CLI Programs” each note is equivalent to a separate CLI program with its description and images, and I remember I had tried to replicate that in Notesnook by creating a single giant note called “Programs” where I mixed the different categories but it was a disaster honestly.

I don’t want to be pessimistic, but I consider that in this scenario (as a Battlefield 2042 player) there are only three possible options:

  1. The company kindly activates Proton/Wine support, but they don’t do it because they love their users, they do it because they realized that specifically the Steam Deck has a certain market share that they are losing.
  2. Valve makes an agreement with those companies and with the anticheats and allows us gamers to play from Linux as if it was Windows but not bypassing the anticheat, but implementing some kind of anticheat also for Wine/Proton.
  3. The one I consider most likely, we’re screwed and we’ll have to wait for some hacker (or experienced users) to figure out how the hell to make the anticheat think we’re in Windows when we’re really in Wine. It seems to me that this happens with some Wine prefixes that I have no idea make it possible to play LOL on Linux.

Pehaps the user (or in this case the bot) will not go directly to your website, but first to some method of captcha verification or something like that, or like those pages (SteamDB for example) that do not open directly but first open a blank page to verify your network and browser with a captcha.

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Unfortunately that’s the point of FreeTube precisely, that’s why it uses libre instances like Piped or Invidious, I think what you mention is impossible.

The closest thing you can use is ReVanced, which is Youtube but without ads, keeping the analytics and recommendations.

Please please prioritize Empress releases that usually work on Linux and on Windows, and a Windows user would not see the slightest difference.

I mean, if you go to Steamrip and download FH6 for SOME REASON it doesn’t run on Linux but on Windows, but if you download FH6 directly from the Empress Telegraph it works on both Linux and Windows, and Windows users don’t notice a difference

Xirup, (edited )
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

It would be great some kind of sticker or banner by release that says “Steam Deck/Linux verified”, maybe the users themselves are the ones who comment if it is compatible or not and the banner is added.

@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

It’s not misspelled, it’s literally the Telegraph (not Telegram) of Empress. Search the pinned messages in the Empress chat.

Super Productivity - Keep Your Life Organized

My life is pretty disorganized with stuff at school, work, and extracurriculars. For a few months now I’ve been encouraged to get a planner instead of keeping it all in my head. I don’t know if you’re asking because of my recent post on [email protected], but if you’re worried that someone might put a virus or some kind of remote hack into your device, you have nothing to worry about or shouldn’t, as I said in a response to the post, unless you are connected to dubious or public WiFi where anyone can run adb, no one can do anything to you and I say this because at least on my device, my device only activates debugger mode if it is connected specifically to a network that I, the user, identify as safe, otherwise it cannot be activated.

Short Answer: No, you have nothing to worry about, just don’t tell your phone that any public network is trusty unless you’re connected to a VPN.

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

That’s true, but it’s also important to clarify that if I understand it correctly, using Shizuku or wireless debugger mode is specifically dangerous on unknown networks, like public WiFi networks, where anyone could connect to your device with adb, but in case of use from a secure network such as your home (unless some device has been infected by some type of remote control virus) you can use it without problem.

I understand that most people will not mind leaving it on and their phone will automatically connect to any WiFi network, but in my case my device asks me every time I start the wireless debugger mode that if the network I’m connected is a secure network, and it only works if it’s connected to this network.

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I’ve been researching on Rethink’s Github and I haven’t been able to find anything.

It may be a silly question, but a real VPN does work? Or does it tell you same error?

I know of other two open source apps that have the same function as Rethink, and they’re Tracker Control and NetGuard. There’s also Blokada but it doesn’t work exactly like Rethink.

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

A wonderful list, I certainly missed several apps there, and in fact now that you mention it, there is also Insular, an app very similar to Shelter that allows you to install apps in a container using the work profile.

Xirup,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I would suggest you to only remove exclusively the apps that have the '“recommended” label, in that case you should be fine, but I still understand what you say.
