as a gen zer myself I would follow it up with WHY? give me a reason WHY. I don’t really see a difference between instagram groups and signal groups. I think what it is for most people is some lame app they will download for only that specific purpose. The only reason why iMessage is popular is it’s the default. If the EU passed a regulation to force Apple to have a default messager that only supported SMS, and iMessage to be a separate appstore app, or even just an extension for the messages app. it would die within a year. Meta groups are only popular cause they are tired to 2 of the biggest social platform being facebook and instagram.

Signal is just a messaging app, and worst of all to a ton of people you have to share your phone number, something that is kinda intimate and you might only share it among the closer people in your friend group, even when signal launches usernames unless it builds something around signal it’s just another annoying messaging app to keep track of.

skymtf,
@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

I think you can try to create the group with end to end encryption

skymtf,
@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

I mean for them to explain why they think signal sucks

I love how this “sticking it to big tech” is also funded by big tech. The general goal of someone like Facebook with this legislation is pass a bunch of rules that only large companies like them can comply with, and watch mastodon instances and other attempts to detrown them end in FBI raids and more regulations.

skymtf,
@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

Not to mention none of this will actually protect children. When I was 14 I told an adult online about my life and they helped me make it through some rougher periods until I got to 18. I know the internet is highly imperfect but I think gate keeping kids out of it will just lead to more underground abuse and abuse that they don’t find was abuse until they are adults.

skymtf,
@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

Damn this would be great for mastodon too! Imagine a plugin that auto flagged images locally, and gave you a heads up. Kinda like what tech companies have but wont freak out if it finds “extremist” content.

@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

Flying cars are danger to everyone, cars and driving suck enough! Please don’t let this happen in our skies. What if someone wrecked one into my house and killed me.

skymtf,
@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

As far as I’m aware find my on iPhone can work even when the phone is off, this is because the phone kinda acts like an airtags where enough information can be exchanged securely.

skymtf,
@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

I don’t trust these numbers, I really don’t trust any article that talks about my generation.

Kaiteka is one

skymtf,
@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

Where would I change that?

skymtf,
@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

Yeah, sorry for the mispelling…

skymtf,
@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

I don’t see any visible lag on 6a. Just some progress animation until images are loaded. Am I missing something?

are you on graphine?

skymtf,
@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

Okay so I think we got mixed up, the app I’m talking about doesn’t seem to be on play yet. I think its only on fdroid and github. Its a client for misskey

Rio – The Twitter-Platform where Birds can leave their Nests (lemmy.world)

And now something certainly no one asked for: a new Marketing Concept for Mastodon! Let’s face it: the bird icon and the whole birdy concept of Twitter was perfect marketing. It just was. Its so effortless, casual and simply fun. And now that Elon Musk gave it away - why not claim it for the Fediverse? The moment is almost too...

skymtf,
@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

Honestly fedi could improve UX, basic changes included account sharing via QR code, forced use of the username + domain so users understand that domains are used. And a few more I can’t think of right now

College Board shares SAT Scores with Facebook, TikTok, and others

https://gizmodo.com/sat-college-board-tells-facebook-tiktok-your-scores-gpa-1850768077

"Gizmodo observed the College Board’s website sharing data with Facebook and TikTok when a user fills in information about their GPA and SAT scores. When this reporter used the College Board’s search filtering tools to find colleges that might accept a student with a C+ grade-point average and a SAT score of 420 out of 1600, the site let the social media companies know. Whether a student is acing their tests or struggling, Facebook and TikTok get the details.

The College Board shares this data via “pixels,” invisible tracking technology used to facilitate targeted advertising on platforms such as Facebook and TikTok. The data is shared along with unique user IDs to identify the students, along with other information about how you use the College Board’s site. Tok, and a variety of companies."

These trucks suck, they have massive blind spots. I was recently crossing the street in my local area and the signal changed and I ran and fell. I was thinking at that moment if a truck were turning, I would of been crushed!

skymtf,
@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

Isn’t this legislation kinda half backed since it let’s them “protect” their IP.

skymtf,
@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

I still kinda doubt that. It’s general label for me is Facebook for the modern era. It’s Facebook but built from the ground up to support following influencers and not family.

skymtf,
@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

Honestly , I still think the soviet union was bad and restricted human rights. True communism will look much different.

I’m not trying to say we can really ban this but I’m very unhappy about AI porn. Many sex workers are struggling as it is, and with AI people can make non consensual images of anyone which will leave them with the same stigma sex workers have to endure. I’m also not saying that stigma is good.

I don’t really trust non Foss messaging services, I rather manually bridge everything into matrix

skymtf,
@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

Why should some people be allowed to be rich but not most people?

skymtf,
@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

lmao, NO. also some of the richest people are lazy AF and sit on Twitter all day bitching about queer people existing. I am sorry but poor people work the hardest for the least amount of income.

skymtf,
@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

No, I rather everyone be equal, there is no reason there should be a 1% and a 99%. No one needs 12 yots and a 4 private jetliners. I rather work in a community where my work gives value to people I actually know rather than a soulless corpo,

This so funny funny lmafo! Howdy there partner, what parts ya come from.

Why is CalyxOS consider more private than Graphine, but Graphine is more secure?

I read a post here a while back claiming that graphine is less private but somehow more secure. Of course the only person I have to ask is the graphine Matrix who claims are the opposite of this. Generally my main concern about Calyx is it’s Fake google play thing. Apparently this is less private than graphineOS’s sandboxed...

skymtf,
@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

Yeah the project has continued without him, And yeah running Google Apps is likely less private but considering I use proprietary apps like discord regularly I feel like Google and people are getting more and more of my data anyway.

skymtf,
@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

Yeah perhaps. I don’t know but I just knew my once a month sickness kinda sucks.

My favorite Mastodon and Lemmy clients:

I was looking for a place to share my two favorite Mastodon and Lemmy clients, they are called Voyager Connect Boost for Lemmy and Moshidon for Mastodon (if you are really serious about privacy I recommend Connect still) (the official Mastodon app works fine though, you just can’t follow new hashtags from it)...

skymtf,
@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

I link infinity for Lemmy tbh, its kinda buggy right now when I want to post but other than that its fine.

skymtf,
@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

For mastodon I don’t use a client cause there really isn’t a good for calckey right now. The webapp isn’t perfect but its good enough

skymtf,
@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

Is FIDO Foss at all? I don’t trust anything that isn’t FOSS with my data?

skymtf,
@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

Hmmm not sure if its any different now but I used to bring my own iPad mini and do my work on that. I’m sure its different now.

skymtf,
@skymtf@pricefield.org avatar

I am not like suggesting you bring an iPad, but I am suggesting you bring your own device to class whatever that might be.

It looks like cross-device integration is coming to Android (www.theverge.com)

Google is reportedly planning to introduce a new Android feature that will let users link their various Android devices together, similar to Continuity features across the Apple ecosystem. Android expert Mishaal Rahman posted about the potential feature, noting that it could allow Android devices that are signed into the same...
