Not related to Steam Deck, but this caught my eye:
As soon as we thwarted their effort, they went around to 27 different developers and offered each one a payoff to undermine any effort we had to get their games onto our store exclusively. Activision and Riot and Supercell had direct distribution plans that they were planning on; Google paid them not to pursue those plans. Just direct blatant violations of anti-competition law, it’s crazy a company of Google’s scale would do that.
So Tim is stating that Google making exclusivity deals with applications developers is breaching laws and should be stopped, but Epic having exclusivity deals on their own stores is okay and not anti-competitive. Hypocrite much, eh?
These TVs can capture and identify 7,200 images per hour, or approximately two every second. The data is then used for content recommendations and ad targeting, which is a huge business; advertisers spent an estimated $18.6 billion on smart TV ads in 2022, according to market research firm eMarketer.

“More than half of the websites in the study accepted passwords with six characters or less, with 75% failing to require the recommended eight-character minimum. Around 12% of had no length requirements, and 30% did not support spaces or special characters.”
Earlier this year I signed up as a member to a professional organization that also grants IT-related certifications… I couldn’t figure out why the account registration wouldn’t let me proceed, until I typed a super short password instead.
Curious what people here think about Mozilla CEO Mitchell Baker’s statement in Google’s anti-monopoly trial-. She claims that Firefox uses Google as its default search because users prefer it, not because of payments from Google.
I have never read an e-book. I either read library books and/or buy a new copy off the shelf if I really like it, although I only read one or two novels a year right now.
I tried audiobooks, but they’re not for me. I need to read at my own pace because I constantly get lost in my thoughts, and must re-read sentences to actually register them in my brain.
Born in 1997 if that matters to anyone considering my habits.
Open World - Puzzle - Exploration - Mystery - Space
Outer Wilds is not small (15-25 hours, + about 10-15h for DLC), but it is a great game to be enjoyed in shorter gaming sessions (even just 30-60min) each night if that’s your requirement. Although if you get hooked I expect you to think about the game during the day as well out of session.
OW is not too mechanics-intensive, nor is it action-based. Most of your time is spent exploring the nooks and crannies of a solar system and following your leads to uncover an ancient mystery. The puzzles are genius, differ between small and large in scale and figuring them out feels rewarding. For the most part, it is far from stressful, maybe excluding certain few parts of the game.
The game is very curiosity driven. Your hand is not held after the first hour or two - it’s only you, your ship and the tools at your disposal. Progression is unlocked via knowledge, not power-ups or new tools, so you need to thirst for new pieces of information.
The game is on sale right now. If you’re intrigued, give it a go!
I played through OW mostly right before bedtime last year, and IIRC I slept well, but of course your mileage may vary! I wouldn’t call it “very intense” by any means, but certain sequences can be creepy or tense depending on the person playing.
You will know when the game is going to get tense, so you explore something else instead and save that part for daytime.
I know that there is a WIP for a future article about router platforms, but from the little I’ve read on the Github issue page and a few videos I’ve watched I decided to make this plan right here:...
Why? The fact that people are buying it now that it is on Steam already gives the message they didn’t want to buy it when it was an Epic exclusive.
It gives the message that publishers can take the Epic money for a timed exclusive, face no backlash or consequences and get the money from other customers as well on other storefronts.

Do you need to leave the Steam Deck open to download something on i.e. Firefox in desktop mode or will it just download perfectly in standby mode? I know that it’s basically a PC and it should work but since I’m planning to get one I want to be sure.
A lockscreen does prevent a thief from using your Steam account… unless you can boot to desktop mode before typing in the password, haven’t checked that.
I either buy CDs (and rip 'em to .FLAC files) or just purchase the files from the artist’s own Bandcamp, because I hate subscription services. More money to the people making the music as well.
I got it expecting to hate it, but as I kept playing, I found myself legitimately enjoying it. Not begrudgingly enjoying it, not enjoying it outside of one or two small details, but actually being engaged in the story and gameplay. Which leads me to wondering why people had a problem with this game in the first place again?
I just finished inside and wanted to see how people felt about it in 2023. Everything I’ve read about it around 2016-2017 seems to regard it as the best game of the year and in some cases one of the best of all time. It’s this truly still the consensus?
INSIDE was cool and I enjoyed it, but I wouldn’t say it’s a game of the year by long shot. Although I guess that depends on what else was released in the year of 2016. For me it was a better experience than most AAA games, at least.

I’d say Fairphone is less worse than e.g. Samsung or other big companies from a privacy perspective. Their phones are also promised long support cycle, meaning software updates as well as replacement parts, so buying used should be more viable than other brands. Although I believe they might be difficult to find if you’re not in Europe.

For email, I recommend purchasing your own domain name and finding a provider that allows the use own your own domain (like Proton or Tutanota). A catch-all function is also good for making unique addresses per service, so you’re mostly protected from data leaks and spam. Like [email protected] or [email protected]
Will make switching email providers much easier when you don’t have to update your address to tens or hundreds of services you’ve registered on.

You like cool space stuff? Science fiction? Exploration? Games that don’t hold your hand? Wonderfully crafted experiences? Mysteries to solve? Existential crisis? “A-ha!” moments?
Outer Wilds is the game. If you answered “yes” to at least three questions, give it a try - you will probably love it.
Thing is, you can’t really explain much about Outer Wilds without getting into spoilers, as the whole point of the game is to explore the game’s solar system, figure out environmental puzzles and read ancient texts of a long-gone civilization to solve a mystery that you find yourself tangled in.
It is simply the most fascinating game I have ever played - it’s amazingly well-thought as an experience, every little thing neatly fits together. And there is no right or wrong way to play - after the ‘tutorial’, the game never tells you what to do or where to go next. It is all up to your curiosity and interests. Stuck on exploring one planet? Go investigate something else. You’ll probably find answers to help your exploration on the original planet! Any way you go about exploration, you will find revelations and eventually reach the game’s amazing finale.
Furthermore, if you know what to do, you can complete the game in around 10 minutes. Outer Wilds is a 15-30 hour game. There are no powerups or tools to unlock - knowledge is what gates you from answers and is what allows you to progress.
That’s not really “the mind-blowing twist”, it’s just the game’s main mechanic - even the Steam page flat-out says you are stuck in a time loop. There are several big discoveries in the story that you may find to be “twists” depending on how you explore.
