pancakesyrupyum,

Both, but much more of my days are an Apple Watch SE2 than my DW5600.

I use it as a HUD - I want to know the exact time for work, current temps high/low, sunrise / sundown times, and a pop up for screening phone notifications helps me quite a bit with not checking my phone as much. I also appreciate wrist heart rate (for keeping anxiety in check,) compass is neat, and knowing the local dB is helpful for keeping my tinnitus from getting worse.

I never thought I’d like a smartwatch until I tried one.

pancakesyrupyum,

If you want something more Android-y the Sony NW-A306 exists.

pancakesyrupyum,

Storage and RAM not being user upgradable is an environmental nightmare for sustainability.

Not having internal slots for storage and relying on USB or NAS is not an appropriate alternative for professionals regardless of what their leadership says is what professionals want.

We’ll never know, but RAM being part of the SoC is probably contributing substantially to their performance capabilities compared to competition. The only real way to know that probably requires being an engineer at Apple. I’d wager $3.50 that they’d get a substantial performance deficit from switching to DIMMs, and that terrifies them since that would further push everyone to x86 workstations.

pancakesyrupyum,

That website is a wreck. I purchased some parts from EOE and everything turned out fine, but I also know that people have had issues with them as well.

I flash modded a 6th gen Classic. I enjoyed the miserable experience, and I enjoy using the iPod for 320k MP3 AUX playback, but honestly I think a modern device probably makes more sense. If not a smartphone with one of the Apple-Aux adapters, maybe something like the NW-A306. Lack of streaming support is bad. No real FLAC / “high-res” support is bad. iTunes is a mess.

pancakesyrupyum,

This is the angle that makes me reconsider folding phones. Either fold direction, and you’ve got a smaller screen that’s usable in one hand.

pancakesyrupyum,

Dang this dropped right after I was playing earlier today. Excite

Buggy games should be 100% allowed to be refunded.

I have no idea how many runs I started in BG3. Every few moments I report a bug. Every update the game seemingly gets worse. Decisions don’t work, pathing is awful, after the latest update attacks no longer connect properly and my character claims not to be able to attack with a clear line of sight and so on. I have never...

pancakesyrupyum,

I’d probably love the tedium of being a QA tester. I’d be happy to switch careers and take your job if it probably didn’t imply a pretty hefty pay cut.

pancakesyrupyum,

I watched a friend stream Starfield. This minigame looked godawful.

Whenever I go to play it I’ll probably mod the minigame out entirely.

pancakesyrupyum,

I’ve seen the innards of a KG.

You’ll get like 20 miles of range with the battery packs you might be able to squeeze into some hidey holes.

pancakesyrupyum,

Ooooh oooh I know this one! Due to the overwhelming success, they’re going to shut down F099 as soon as possible.

pancakesyrupyum,

If a phone hit all of these, and added 6 years of guaranteed (timely) OEM OS updates, I would pay upwards of $2,000+.

OEMs hit me up - I’ve got a credit card ready to go right now.

pancakesyrupyum,

No notification LED either, locked to /e/ in the US for keeping warranty, no buy.

Fairphone is damn close in spirit though, especially in the EU market.

pancakesyrupyum,

“Can I revert to Google stock Android?
Technically yes, but note that this will void your warranty and support with us”
I wouldn’t give them my money entirely because of this one line, personally.

https://murena.com/support/

pancakesyrupyum,

Skimmed the US site. Unless I’m dumb, there’s no Non-Windows Key options on any products other than a Linux-variant that they currently up charge for.

What a shithole company.

pancakesyrupyum,

Who wants to take bets on how long it will be until F099 is taken down?

I’ve got a tenner on 01/01/24.

pancakesyrupyum,

I didn’t hear about this. Excite

pancakesyrupyum,

What’s the viability of this tactic in most states? I don’t even think most states prevent the electoral college electors from just picking whoever they want, so R in states that try to prevent him running can just run his VP as P (and Milo Yianoppolous or something as a fake VP) then just vote for Trump if their district votes R.

2TB NVME 3.0 DRAM drive for my OS and games. + an extra 2TB NVME DRAMless 4.0 just games drive.

The partner’s PC is a 512GB SATA DRAMless SSD boot drive. + 1TB SATA DRAMless SSD games storage + 1TB HDD extra games drive for less frequently used games.

The only noticeable difference is between the HDD and any of the SSDs. I’m not entirely sure if you blind-tested me on loading games between that 512 and either of my NVME drives I’d be able to tell the difference. Although I haven’t tried any of those recent directstorage games.

    pancakesyrupyum,

If this is helpful to anyone reading it:

I’m a Generic White Guy, that has learned a lot about himself from inadvertently ending up in two different abusive relationships. It’s absolutely a thing for men to be abused, physically or verbally, or raped by women and you are not alone.

They won’t get better towards you, and you need to take it just as seriously as you would if you saw your mom or sister needing to get out of a similar life situation.

Fractal Terra Mini-ITX Case Review: Build Quality, Thermals, Acoustics, & Cable Management (www.youtube.com)

This review and benchmark of the Fractal Terra (Jade) Mini-ITX case looks at the build quality, the ease-of-installation features, cable management, and design qualities of the new small form factor (SFF) case from Fractal. We also deploy our hemi-anechoic acoustic testing chamber for some initial numbers, run thermal benchmarks...

    pancakesyrupyum,

I’m not an ITX guy by any means, but I’m happy they’re branching out into the space. I tend to agree with their viewpoints that different, non-gamer non-red and black Cool™️ designs are critical for the DIY market to branch out into. ITX cases are, for the most part, the only innovative designs in cases that are truly different and advancing products.

That being said I’d only be interested in something like the NZXT H210 if I were to actually build ITX so… maybe I’m an asshole.

    pancakesyrupyum,

This person is evoking the idea of a game like BattleBit Remastered, by the way, if anyone reading this is living under a rock.

    pancakesyrupyum,

I haven’t watched the second video, but I will say the game is solid and fun with friends. And it seems like community criticism is affecting a lot of the balancing and updates they do.

I think whatever concerns people had during EA the devs are attempting to address.

    pancakesyrupyum,

Hey at least Xbox can play CDs.

PS5 is incompatible. [insert Techmoan video here]

    pancakesyrupyum,

I feel the best-of-both-worlds move nowadays is to get an iPhone SE and something like the Sony NW-A306. Just embrace a small dedicated media device, iOS for privacy but still getting to use the stupid iMessage and FaceTime features all of your asshole friends use, and an awesome DAP that you can install that one Android app you need for whatever reason.

    pancakesyrupyum,

Fairphone being locked to /e/ to keep warranty in the US is a big detractor for a lot of the types of people that would want one.

    pancakesyrupyum,

The best retro gaming console is the one you already own. Any old hand-me-down or thrift office PC can handle the majority of retro titles, as can most consoles with custom firmware.

If you already own anything from the DS-3DS-PSP-Vita lineups you should be looking into making the most of the hardware you already own.

That being said, my partner is very happy with their Deck, and I’m pretty pleased with my RG351V running ArkOS. I’ve also been very happy with running my RP3B+ with Retropie.

But to be very honest, I don’t do a damn thing that my gaming PC two builds ago, and my PSP1000 I’ve had since high school wouldn’t be able to handle with flying colors.

    pancakesyrupyum,

I was more making a point about people already owning capable machines in regards to the consoles, PCs, old smartphones etc they already own being capable emulation machines.

Someone should try and rule out what they already have before buying one of the SBC-style handhelds. It’s more economical, prevents more e-waste, reparability is way more accessible on other hardware than SBCs, etc.

PS2, GC, Wii compatibility is a good point. The only argument I have against that is just going to devolve into Old Man Yells At Clouds so I’ll let you win on that.

We'll also cover Microsoft's victory over the FTC in its attempt to buy Activision Blizzard....

    pancakesyrupyum,

Anyone bother to watch Buildzoid lately to see his take on the new AGESA? I haven’t paid much attention to Zen3 OC since I’m on AM4 still. Does increased DDR5 clocks even matter if the Infinity Fabric still keep it stuck to 6000-6200?

    pancakesyrupyum,

I commented this before watching, like an asshole, so of course it’s answered in the video. 6400 1:1 should be possible on many CPUs.

People sticking with audio jack phones, why is USB-C earphones not a solution?

Don’t get me wrong. Apple removing audio jack was the biggest facepalm in smartphone history. And you can thank it for not being able to make an upgrade without sacrificing audio jack (and SD card too :/). But USB-C is getting standardized everywhere now (laptops, smartphones, etc.). What makes USB-C earphones not worth the...

    pancakesyrupyum,

I have the official Apple Lightning-Aux for my AKG K361 and Grado SR60x. It has definitely adequate audio, no complaints.

I use the Apple USB C-Aux I use for when I use any headphones with my gaming PC (usually Koss Portapros). Also definitely adequate.

My impression with either one is - except for physical durability concerns, if either adapter can power what you’re plugging into it they’re awesome. If you need more power or physical controls or weird connection formats that’s where they start to not be great.

    pancakesyrupyum,

Huel does have a weird, thick texture that’s difficult to get past. Soylent is a lot smoother.

I settled on liking a half-half combination of Huel Black and Soylent about once a day. I kind of fell out of it because of the cleaning requirements.

    pancakesyrupyum,

Someone left a comment on [redacted] that spoke highly of the HiBy R2 II. I can’t speak for it but that might be up everyone’s alley here.

I’m still rocking a 6th gen iPod I just recently refurbished so I may not be the best advice here.

A sexy outfit can get you arrested in Phoenix — especially if you’re Black or trans (www.phoenixnewtimes.com)

In January, a 23-year-old woman sat in Phoenix Municipal Court listening to a prosecutor lay out the evidence against her. On the night of her arrest, she was scantily dressed, the prosecutor told the judge. She also had condoms in her purse and got into a car with a man....

It’s Phoenix. She’s lucky the cops didn’t execute her on the spot.

Y’all remember that time they did that? I remember.

    pancakesyrupyum,

Wait, you’re telling me police officers in Phoenix have executed a random person more than once?

Next you’re going to tell me they’ve recently kept slaves in air-conditionless tents in one of the hottest counties in the country.

I could never get my pihole to remain stable over long periods of time. Multiple reinstalls, two different pis, always issues with the network dropping or requiring both the pi and connected devices to be rebooted. A pain in the neck for a reason I’m not immediately able to figure out.

    pancakesyrupyum,

Tons of little accessories like this.

Feels kind of silly when the real hardware controls are a foot away. I’m surprised these haven’t gotten a resurgence in popularity with current touchscreen DAPs.

    pancakesyrupyum,

    That’s because this is a big ass-truck.

    pancakesyrupyum,

If I open a website and something pops up or prevents me from scrolling, or any ads that prevent me from seeing the content, I just leave the website. I didn’t need to see the information.

I have a few YouTube channels and websites that I only check on PC because of robust ad blocking and SponsorBlock. If a website has information that I routinely want to see a go about once a week on my desktop to look at everything all at once in a not-mental-health-ruining advertiser hellscape.

At least for me, the current internet and advertising is actively preventing me from accessing content as often as I’d like to. That feels so… user hostile. I wonder if I’m an earlier part of a wave of people that are going to be like this.
