Opinions: What is a movie you genuinely like, that is rated below 60% on rotten tomatoes?

Inspired by the linked XKCD. Using 60% instead of 50% because that’s an easy filter to apply on rottentomatoes.

I’ll go first: I think “Sherlock Holmes: A game of Shadows” was awesome, from the plot to the characters ,and especially how they used screen-play to highlight how Sherlocks head works in these absurd ways.

noroute,

Pulse (2006) horror/sci-fi/thriller by Jim Sonzero director.

DasAlbatross,

Pootie Tang

Fight me.

fubo,

2004’s Van Helsing stands at 24%. It is silly but it is fun.

HonoraryMancunian,

The Room (25%)

xeekei,

Underworld is 31%, but 79% audience score? So apparently quite a few people like it, could’ve fooled me. I might edit this if I find something else.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

I was genuinely impressed by this movie

HonoraryMancunian,

I thought it was great fun!

volkhavaar,

The Cell 45% critic / 57% audience

The aesthetic alone is worth the watch.

Goblin_Mode,

Chicken fucking Little

That movie slaps and no one can convince me otherwise

BrianTheeBiscuiteer,

I, Robot (56%). Didn’t care for Will Smith in this role but he did well enough. It was more about the plot for me. Also, if your eyes don’t well up when Sonny is about to be terminated you should get checked out.

pjnick,

I, Robot only has a 56%?!

leavemealone,

I think the movie would have been better appreciated on his own if they didn’t use the Asimov license or character names. .

CaptainHowdy,

Due Date (2011)

I watched this yesterday and had several laughs. I understand that it’s not a cinematic masterpiece, but it is actually pretty good, way better than a 40%!

NoGoodDevGuy,

Wow I can’t believe that’s only 40%. Definitely deserves way better

CamelCase,

Mother Lode (1982)

A film about a man living alone and far away from civilization in a wooden hut, digging a mineshaft for years in search of gold. Very atmospheric and doesn’t have any of putting moments in my opinion, despite the rating.

When I wanted to rewatch it 10 years later it was so hard to find that I had to make a post on a movie buff forum with a vague description from memory because I forgot the title.

AnimusAstralis,

mother! by Darren Aronofsky. It has average scores, but I consider it to be a cinematic masterpiece.

Ilflish,

I would go with In the Mouth of Madness, one of my faves but it’s pre 2000

Another is Jingle all the Way. I think it’s a perfect Christmas Movie but again pre 2000

Nfntordr,

Judge Dredd (1995) Judge as you will :)

TheRagingGeek,

I am… The Law! It was great slightly cheesy fun. I enjoy both versions of dredd

Hook with it’s 29% tomatometer rating. Dustin Hoffman—sexual misconduct allegations aside—fucking nailed it as Hook, and I think the general concept of an adult Peter Pan returning was pretty cool. Also, who doesn’t love Robin Williams? It was a movie I loved in my childhood so I am absolutely biased, but 29% seems absurd. I still find the “Don’t try to stop me, Smee” scene hilarious to this day.

Skyketcher,

I feel like the for xkcd question using audience score makes it a harder problem.

I’m surprised that Hook has a 29% tomato rating but it does have a 76% Audience score. So it’s more liking something that critics hate instead of something everyone hates.

It’s a classic that maintains that status across multiple generations, so 29% is a bit of a joke. I guess if you view it from the POV of a haughty film critic, but c’mon.
