I’ve been wanting to move away from Dropbox for a long while, but I haven’t been able to find a suitable replacement. Dropbox has always been super convenient and has just worked for me....
I have a self-hosted Nextcloud instance, but I don’t expose it to the internet, so I use Proton Drive if I need to share files with other people. I use self-hosted Immich to sync my photos from all of my devices.
No one on the fucking planet should be using this shitty browser anyway. Fuck Chrome, fuck everything that’s Chromium-based and fuck Google and their attempts to build a monopoly on browser engines so they can blast everyone with ads and extend their surveillance network. Use a proper browser with support for proper ad-blockers like Firefox or Mull or LibreWolf on Desktop.
Look at that shit! Before it was here are your two browsers choose! Now it’s…how about for the letter A? Suppose a website starts with an A, would you choose Edge to be your default browser?.. then you choose chrome or Firefox, and when you click on a link Edge Pops up with some shit like…Are you really sure you wanna use...
Firefox has a really nice reader mode, it will soon get a much better PDF viewer and it doesn’t come with much bloat. You can also use LibreWolf to fully minimize bloat in Firefox and enjoy the additional privacy benefits.
It pulls everything (apps, metadata, search results, etc.) directly from Google Play. It’s entirely free and open source and recommended by almost everyone in the Android and privacy community, so yes, it’s definitely legit.
Yeah. Some Android Custom ROMs ship Aurora instead of the Play Store. I try to get all of my apps from F-Droid, but when something isn’t available there and I can’t get it through Obtanium, I go with Aurora.
Some people use Google Chrome or other Chromium-based browsers that don’t support proper ad-blockers because Google deprecated MV2. Firefox and its forks like LibreWolf are the only usable browsers nowadays, they are the only ones that support MV2 and proper ad-blockers like uBlock Origin.
I try to always use servers in the European Union or in Switzerland. I avoid the US, UK, Canada and Australia as well as obviously Russia, China, Belarus, Ukraine, etc.
I play most games on Linux, but for anti-cheat Games I have a hardened Windows virtual machine in KVM with GPU passthrough. It works surprisingly well.
It was always free. The paid version is just a donation if you support the project and want to keep it going, but you can use it for free, look at the source code, modify it, redistribute it, you can do with it whatever you want. It’s under the MIT license.
If you are a pirate VPN is an essential tool. I am trying to ascertain the popularity of various VPNs in piracy community. In this excerise, I will list several Popular VPNs in the comment if you use one of them just upvote that comment and reply the reason. If you don’t find your VPN listed add a comment with just their name....
I use IVPN and I’m very happy with them. They allow you to make an account without giving out your Email address, you just get a random-generated Account ID (Mullvad does the same btw). They also allow you to pay with Monero, an anonymous crypto currency. I used Mullvad before, Proton VPN and AirVPN are great options as well.
Mullvad is great. Also check out IVPN, they are kinda similar to Mullvad (they also allow for anonymous registration without an Email address and they accept anonymous Monero payments). Maybe take a look at AirVPN if you need port forwarding.
Come on, don’t waste Tor resources for downloading pirated content. That’s what VPNs are for. Journalists and activists in countries like Russia, China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, etc. rely on Tor in order to do their work, just use a VPN for downloading, it’s also much faster.
I run 2 nodes at my house, several nodes (including exit nodes) on different VPS providers and I use the Snowflake addon in all of my browsers. But Tor is meant for people who require anonymity and the ability to circumvent censorship, not for those who don’t want to pay for a VPN.
I adjusted my entire digital life so I can do everything without ever connecting to Google services. I block them in my self-hosted Pi-Hole, on NextDNS and in my OPNsense Firewall.
I used Ecosia for a long time (almost 5 years) but the search results are pretty bad. Often I had to use another search engine to actually find what I was looking for. DuckDuckGo is pretty good, Brave Search is OK as well but SearXNG is my personal favorite.
I refuse to use services that force me to surrender to Google. Why don’t people use hCaptcha, it’s not perfect, but it’s far better than this Google garbage…
Baker’s testimony shows that Mozilla depends so much on its deal with Google for revenue that “the biggest loser of a DOJ win in the Google case would be Mozilla.”
Or just use LibreWolf. It’s Firefox without the crap like Google search, Pocket or Sponsored sites. It also has significant privacy improvements compared to stock. I highly recommend it, it’s been my daily driver for years.

The Signal servers don’t do the encryption, it’s done on your phone. That’s how end-to-end encryption works. Also, Signal’s Server code is FOSS: github.com/signalapp/Signal-Server
