Sounds very platonic, masochistic, weak, or (all 3) Christian Virtue…
Rather, we should treat others as you wish to be treated… And then when their response is sure, “treat others as you have been treated.” Love those who deserve love, and destroy those who deserve wrath. A law of basic human nature.
There’s a difference between seeking peace and being a pacifist when trampled by those who are not capable of peace. I agree with these religions insomuch as peace is always a preferable state, and should be sought. We should go out of our way to seek peace, and respond peacefully until it is no longer possible. I do not advocate undue vengeance or striking first. But when repeatedly struck on the face it is not always best to “turn the other cheek.” Sometimes that works. But sometimes the offender will only strike again. And with those who will only listen to violence for violence, there should be no shame or fear of violating a religious axiom for dealing violently with them.
There is no glory in denying our carnal nature to fight for self-preservation in the face of physical or emotional harm.
I would argue that anyone who adopts these values is a slave to themselves, controlled by whoever claims to share these values but in fact uses them for control. These values no longer serve our self-interest or nature, and as the entire point of values is to make judgement of relative “right” and “wrong” from one’s own perspective, we should be free to mold them as need be.
Religious values serve to externalize one’s own will to a “god.” This rationalizes why nature is able to get away with what is “forbidden” (for the purpose of making the masses feel guilty and fall back to the priests for forgiveness). When we realize that values are not absolute, and can be molded according to individual will, we do away with the need for a “god” to externalize our personal moral preferences.
As Nietzsche said, when god dies, we must each become a god unto ourselves, or try to lie to ourselves that god still lives and remain slaves to the externalized will of the long-dead others who invented him.
This is what happens when your anglo-saxon, having just diverged from old Norse and Latin, begins to lose it’s declensions and conjugations… It’s its biggest problem, that that abominable process occurred…
I wish it wasn’t so hard to keep doing this shit every day. I sometimes wish that pickup truck killed me when he hurled me from my bike. He took away my strength, my power and my body from me. I used to be so strong and now I can barely hobble to my desk everyday. I hate it. I hate my weak and terrible body and despite all my hard work I have to accept this is as good as it ever gets. Maybe it’s not worth the effort. Maybe I should just give up. Who would even care if I did?
I know it can be easy to believe nobody cares. I know it can feel pointless to even try anymore. I’ve been there. Reach out to those around you - tell them you need help. Amit that you’re not ok. I know, it’s scary. And sometimes they might not seem to care. But you’ll find someone who cares about you, somebody who gives you a reason. I did. It took forever, I went for years believing I was better off dead because of the trauma I’d been through, the damage from abuse. But people do care, no matter what you’ve been through. The world is cruel, uncaring, unjust. But humanity is the only thing that changes that. And even though we stray from the ideal of what we think life should be - even though there is still great suffering - there is hope. I care about you. I don’t even know who you are, and you don’t know me. But I care about your life, I hope you push through the suffering. We might agree and get along. We might be on opposites in our ideology, we might disagree, we might even hate every ounce of what the other stands for. But there is purpose to your life. There is a purpose for all of us. It may be hard to find - it may only be what we make of life. But it is there, and it is found in other people. It took hearing that from someone else to finally understand that. I still need to hear it often. But keep living, even when it seems hopeless. Even one more moment of joy is worth the suffering. I’ve been there. I’ve had years of pain since I tried to end it. But I’ve also had moments of love, of joy, of connection to those around me, that are worth every moment of pain. Reach out to those around you. Just talk to them. It’s hard, I know. But once you make connections with others, once you have someone to lean on, things will get better. The pain never goes away. Trauma never leaves completely. Legs don’t heal, scars don’t fade. But the people in your life can make it all worth living. Because, ultimately, even one moment of joy, of contentment, of love, defies all the laws of nature in something only human life can create. That is the value of living.
No no, musk uses Xindows. SpaceX uses Linux, and is working pretty well in spite of Musk’s owning it… Hopefully they can kick him out somehow before he destroys it like twitter.
That would be an interesting one, because I speak enough old norse and Latin to pass as a foreigner from the far east (until they realise I don’t speak Arabic). But 2523 English will be unrecognizable, and worse, they’d probably recognize our “old” English. It’s like if Shakespeare showed up today, vs some guy from the future who barely speaks English and pretends to only speak an uncommon foreign language.
Kelvin is an absolute temp scale, it equals °C + 273.15. So even a 20°C cup of coffee (68°F, colder than ambient…) is 293 kelvin. IQ only goes up to 200 so that coffee is smarter than Einstein…
Also: Einstein’s IQ was estimated to be around 160 or 170 (he never took the test). 160 kelvin is -113°C… (-171°F… very very cold coffee).
Thanks. We’re stuck with Fahrenheit here in America, so I’m not used to °C for practical applications… Because America is too stupid to switch to SI and it’s impractical to not use the national standard (believe me I’ve tried)…
I’m aware the 160 is a guess, thanks for clarifying. I’ll edit. Also, because of the nature of normal distribution and standard deviation, IQ given the current world population can only go up to 194.8
But you’re technically right (the best kind of right), it could go above 200 with a world population of 76 billion.

The assumption of the infinite is not an axiom of life but of the philosophical principle of Will. Which is fine if you embrace paradox and assume a will that is sufficiently exercised can live forever - and I see how biology could become a model for such an idea. But it’s not intrinsic in biology. That said, the idea of infinite repetition or perpetuation of the finite is no problem at least from a Nietzschean perspective…
lvl 2 player at the lvl 15 end-game citadel: I attempt to break down the walls of the impenetrable fortress with the Sword of Doom
“A bright flash emanates from the place of contact as the two unbreakable items collide. It expands into a small explosion in an instant, letting out a deafening noise. When your eyes clear from the flash, ears still ringing, a small, 2 foot deep crater is broken out of the 5 foot thick unbreakable wall. Half the sword is vaporized from the heat of the impact, and the powerful runes are destroyed. The shockwave hits your character in a rush of heat and force. Roll a Dex save (or a little force damage).
Many people far and wide heard the impact. A dragon is rising in the distance from the tower of the dark mages… Wanna run?”
As others have said, manufacturer telemetry. Just the usual built-in spyware that people are fine with for some reason… Everyone does it, they’re just bad at hiding it in this case.
They can, actually… Many nuclear bases in the US use floppy disks for code to reduce the risk of a cyberattack and because upgrading that intricate of a system is prohibitively expensive for how little good it would do.
