gravitas_deficiency,

So I guess the Israeli government doesn’t understand what irony is…

gravitas_deficiency,

You’re clearly not familiar with the shitshow that is the US no-fly list.

gravitas_deficiency,

If you never put stuff in the back of your truck because it’s “too dirty”, you absolutely do not need a truck.

gravitas_deficiency,

I’d put 100 on the Cessna getting a double kill before it gets smoked

gravitas_deficiency,

Slovakia and The Netherlands are the new wild cards. We’ll see how things shake out.

gravitas_deficiency,

Uh… well, we’ll see. If he manages to get elected, this is just one of the catastrophic things he’ll definitely try. Not to mention, he tends to just ignore laws, so I’m not sure why people would assume this new law is unbreakable.

gravitas_deficiency,

I really hope Sweden can figure out a way to get some Gripens to Ukraine - the specific considerations the Swedes designed that thing (as well as all of their preceding cold-war era fighters) around are more or less the exact constraints that Ukraine is operating under now. Specifically: Swedish fighter designs have always focused on robustness, pragmatic effectiveness, (semi-unofficial, until recently) NATO inter-operability, STOL capabilities, and ease-of-use and -maintenance. The context they were designed to thrive in was a Soviet invasion, and Sweden’s official national strategy for reacting to an invasion was (and is) basically to be a meatgrinder for Soviet conscripts and equipment. So basically: the exact situation Ukraine is in right now.

Also as an American: that’s not a thing to brag about. Sticking to your guns when it becomes evident that your strategy is not going to work is called “sunk cost fallacy”. It’s not good.

Edit:

To clarify, I wholeheartedly and enthusiastically support assisting Ukraine, and I wish our government shared that sentiment. I’m simply pointing out that the War on Terror was a HUGE demonstration of the sunk cost fallacy over the course of over 20 years. Similarly, unflinchingly supporting the Israeli government’s extremely hawkish handling of pretty much every aspect of how they interact with Palestinians is also an example of the sunk cost fallacy, and I’m starting to get really fucking concerned that it’s going to cost Biden the election in 2024, which would be bad for everyone all over the world in a myriad of fascinating and terrible ways… and also, very obviously extremely bad for Ukraine - I would actually not be surprised, if Trump manages to win, that he actually starts to throw in with Putin. Trump fucking hates Zelenskyy, because Zelenskyy refused to submit to Trump’s blackmail and didn’t help Trump’s continued attempts to fuck with our own electoral process.

Additionally, apologies for dragging in so many loosely related issues, but the truth of the matter is that American politics muddles all this crap up into a giant cesspool, and that’s what we have to deal with as citizens.

gravitas_deficiency,

100% agree on the Ukraine front. Apologies - I’ve just been infuriated by the complete morass of congressional politics lately and it’s driving me to distraction at times

gravitas_deficiency,

The deep lore is in the comments.

Same as it ever was.

gravitas_deficiency,

Ok. But first you have to make better games.

You can’t argue me into believing the game is fun when it’s just… overall not that fun compared to other Bethesda efforts.

To be clear, it’s far from an outright “bad” game, but I’m still frustrated that I spent $70 on the fucking thing. If you charge that much, it’s completely reasonable for me to have high expectations for your game.

gravitas_deficiency,

It really do.

gravitas_deficiency,

Orrrrr “sorry guys but you wrote a dog of a game so we’re letting you all go” since that seems to be in vogue these days.

Maybe some enterprising souls in the mod community will release an overhaul at some point, but that point will unfortunately not be soon, given the work it would entail.

gravitas_deficiency,

Precisely. If I had paid less for it, I’d be less annoyed.

gravitas_deficiency,

Because MW3 is just… garbage. It’s a cookie that was made with a cookie cutter. It doesn’t bring anything new or interesting to the table in terms of gameplay, or truly novel developments in the game universe.

HL, despite the Rowling-oriented issues with the franchise, frankly knocked it out of the park, and moreover pretty squarely addressed the Feminist/Trans kerfluffle Rowling kicked up - the gender selection during character creation is “witch” or “wizard”, and it simply determines whether or not you can go into one half of your dorm area, and all the lines that refer to your character use “they” - never a gendered pronoun. The second part was a deliciously holistic “fuck your bigotry” move, and it was very obviously directed at Rowling.

gravitas_deficiency,

To be clear, the “Red Scare” was just a cudgel wielded by Joe McCarthy (no relation to Kevin “uWu please notice me, GOP sempai” McCarthy) against people he considered to be his political opponents. It wasn’t really about finding actual Soviet/Communist covert elements and influences, and it never was. Just like all the idiotic privacy-undermining laws politicians are throwing around these days are to “protect the children”.

gravitas_deficiency,

I legitimately have bottles of wine older than you lmao

gravitas_deficiency,

An edit to the last point, as well as one more

  • got amicably Klingon divorced (which is no mean feat)
  • still on very good terms with the Klingon ex as far as we know

MI6 chief thanks Russian state television for its 'help' in encouraging Russians to spy for the UK (apnews.com)

The head of Britain's foreign intelligence agency has thanked Russian state television for encouraging Russians to spy for the UK after it broadcast part of a speech he gave earlier this year where he called on Russians to join hands with British intelligence.

gravitas_deficiency,

Unfortunately, Biden will 100% try to block this. He is, in his own words, “a Zionist”.

Side note: great job further alienating progressives and people who are no longer willing to give Israel a free pass on the fact that they’re administering an apartheid state, Biden. Really hoping this isn’t the deciding point in the elections next year, but it very well could be.

gravitas_deficiency,

It’s like the pakleds from Star Trek Lower Decks. The bigger the helmet, the more in charge you are. Except Dear Leader’s Dear Helmet is actually just the entire atmosphere, so it’s bigger than all the other helmets put together.

gravitas_deficiency,

If I may put on the “credible hat” for a moment: it would make a hell of a lot of sense if Korea, Poland, and Ukraine worked out some sort of deal to do some “battlefield testing” of the K2 - particularly since Poland just bought like a thousand. And if they iterate on the design using the feedback from Ukranians tankers, it would be the quickest A2/Mk2/block 20 turnaround of any modern MBT, bar none.

gravitas_deficiency,

That won’t be until well after 2034

I will not listen to you because your helmet is not big enough

gravitas_deficiency,

Or Larian. But yes, I otherwise agree.

Also: never pre-purchase any game from any publisher.

gravitas_deficiency,

Yeah I think they’re kinda like big electronic moths

gravitas_deficiency,

I don’t think this is intended to include any support logistics for the F-16s being donated by other countries

gravitas_deficiency,

deadpan serious stare

I’m not paid enough to care if you steal shit

gravitas_deficiency,

I’m a staunch progressive, but if she somehow becomes the nexus of a new “reasonable conservative” party in the US, I would honestly love it. I disagree with her on nearly everything - especially domestic matters - but she and I both apparently actually give a shit about small-d democracy, and that’s something I can actually work with.

gravitas_deficiency,

If people are ultimately willing to abide by the rules of democracy, they’re not a lost cause - they can be negotiated with.

The line is drawn at dogmatic, slavish devotion to the idea of power at all costs with complete disregard to democratic processes. That isn’t something you can have a debate with.

Tell me you know nothing about semiconductor design, fabrication, and manufacturing with out telling me you know nothing about semiconductor design, fabrication, and manufacturing

gravitas_deficiency,

Eesh. Bet we all can guess who that modder voted for :(

gravitas_deficiency,

If they’re Dutch: likely.

gravitas_deficiency,

So, my imaginary friend is telling me to pull down as many voter records as possible for swing states and build an analysis pipeline to determine which voters are conservative and then automatically file challenges to their registrations.

If these chucklefucks really want to fuck around, I and many others are perfectly happy helping them find out.

gravitas_deficiency,

Sounds like the kids are gonna need to learn how to get around school IT idiocy (old link, but the approach is still very much valid) and use a VPN.

gravitas_deficiency,

so, that would have very likely incited The Netherlands to invoke Article V against the UK. Which would have been… interesting, considering who was the US president at the time.

On a related note, I’m guessing that’s the only reason they even evaluated the option - because BoJo thought he could spin it in a way Trump would buy into the idea if they actually decided to try it. But also, something like that would have utterly destroyed the internal integrity of NATO for several pretty fucking huge reasons.
