Long story short, I have a desktop with Fedora, lovely, fast, sleek and surprisingly reliable for a near rolling distro (it failed me only once back around Fedora 34 or something where it nuked Grub). Tried to install on a 2012 i7 MacBook Air… what a slog!!! Surprisingly Ubuntu runs very smooth on it. I have been bothering all...
I wouldn’t call it hate, more like disapprobation with Canonical’s choices. No one have to use Ubuntu, we have tons of distro to choose. If someone wants LTS, you can always go pure Debian way, it’s not hard to install as it’s used to be (for beginners), or there is Linux Mint Debian Edition. You can easily use flatpaks with these and keep your software up-to-date.
My question is basically the title. I’m making my own Puppy Linux remaster and it already has a .PDF reader for it that is very small. I think it’s called Evince? It has a native GTK UI and starts in a second, uses very little RAM and CPU. Now I need a .EPUB reader. I’ve seen a couple different .EPUB reader apps out there...
For those that were interested in the openSUSE logo contest, the voting wrapped up on Tuesday and the results of this logo contest for new openSUSE branding have been selected.
I can see how this is a good exercise for the one who makes it and maybe for others who are interested in the field. However, just because it has Steam in the title, doesn’t mean it’s related to a gaming community.
Well I didn’t say anything about the video (though apparently it sounded kinda harsh, could’ve worded better). But yeah, while the video is not perfect, it raises some very good points about Steam’s UX. Just not the correct community. However since Lemmy isn’t big enough as Reddit, I guess this is acceptable for now.
I suppose that’s the main problem, I didn’t check the article since the title reeks clickbaity enough. However I wouldn’t share an article if the the title obviously is a clickbait, I’m sure there are bunch of respectable sources about this development.

Hey Linux community. I have an ipod and I’m trying to put music on it. Itunes simply will not run and it won’t recognise stuff I put on it through files. Is there any thing I can try/use? Information: Linux type: Linux Mint Cinnamon Ipod type: 1.1.2 PC, Ipod Nano, 7th Gen
I have Nano 7 as well and I tried many things over the years. However there isn’t a good solution to this. I have a Windows 7 VM just for my iPod and installed an old iTunes just to put music on it. You can use Gnome Boxes for this job.
Click on + to select the ISO from file. It will start the installation process. Install Windows 7 with its steps. 20 GB space and 4 GB RAM would suffice for virtual machine.
Once you installed it, start the VM and plug in your iPod. For VM to see it, on right top there is a … menu, go preferences from there. Switch to Devices & Shares tab. It should see your iPod now, just enable it. Also set a shared directory from below so you can put your music files there before uploading them to your iPod. This is the iTunes version I use: www.filehorse.com/download-itunes-64/35820/
Even if you cannot connect to internet (normally that shouldn’t be a problem since VM use the internet through host machine), you can still download the said iTunes outside of the VM and install it via shared folder. In the end you don’t need internet to put iPod some music.
If I only wanted to degoogle and disable other manufacturer’s bloatware from my Android device, is using adb to “uninstall” the system apps from user 0 pretty much as effective as rooting and using something like debloat terminal while rooted or are there bypasses that make rooting the better option? I’m not concerned...
adb uninstall will cover your needs and if you are using a banking app they won’t let you use them if you root the device. So even if you choose the root way, it’s recomended to relock root once you’re done.
Also not sure about stock ROMs but be careful with core apps. For example, in LineageOS if you remove file manager that way you bork the system because any other file manager use the initial file manager.
For BG3, don’t search something about it, just start and play. You don’t need to know anything prior, however it’s a role-playing game so play accordingly what kind of character you created. You can save-scumming if you want if some desicion you made leads to something bad, though they all the part of the game. Just play and experience.
For games like Overwatch, it isn’t complicated at all. It just requires you to play it constantly and learn counter measures just by playing. Learning them is the fun part, overthinking about them not so much.
To be fair when I see “complex game” part, I was kinda expexting some advanced building games, something like Factorio, maybe RimWorld.
Anyway, also you don’t have to like any games even if they are overwhelmingly positive titles. Just find what you like and dig in.
no matter which proton version i try to run the history edition in, the best it was able to do was launch into a blackscreen and throw a cant find uplay error, protondb was no help at all, none of the tips there helped, neither changing the engine ini, nor using lutris...
Oh it’s history edition. Well, I completely missed that part. It seems people solved it with a Lutris script.
By the way, since you have Nvidia and you use EndeavourOS, you are probably on driver 545. That driver has a problem with Proton 8 and later ones. Maybe trying Proton 7 would help.
Everyone thinks the otherwise but personally I like the name Tutanota and quite proud of being part of it. No one can create a @tutanota account anymore and that makes you a senior user if you have one.
Apparently they already reverted that. I guess people need to write every bullshit Microsoft pulls, at least for the sake of people who still use Windows.
I don’t know if there is a unified tool for that but I use btop and nvtop side by side. I don’t really care but if there is one, I’d like to know as well.
