mojo,

Element, the Matrix app, has video and screen sharing calls. Bonus that it’s also e2ee, self hostable, and entirely FOSS

mojo,

Oh maybe. I’ve never used it tbh, so maybe I’m spreading a bit of misinformation

mojo,

Yeah, an at home significant other.

If the ideal setup is many medium sized instances rather than a few huge ones, wouldn't that mean users would need to subscribe to duplicate communities in all of those instances?

Otherwise, if we have a lot of medium sized instances but the most popular communities are hosted on just a few huge instances, doesn’t that defeat the purpose of distributing load across many instances?...

mojo,

Yeah that’ll be another problem we’ll have to figure out. Maybe if there are two meme servers, we could bridge the communities somehow so they’re just one feed for the end user.

Have you ever been at the junction of a fork in your life's road and not known what to do? How did you get through it?

I’m currently at this juncture and trying to decide whether to go back to school and start entirely fresh or to hold out for another year or two to see how things go. The anxiety of what the future may or may not hold is real and I’m just standing here, watching the distances shorten faster and faster while still not...

mojo,

Damn I’m basically at the same spot as you

mojo,

Whatever one you like better

mojo,

It’s doing you a favor

mojo,

Okay but why is it rare

If you don't mind me asking what is so important about privacy?

What harm does public data have to you? Couldn’t one just ignore the ads? You can’t see anyone watching you, is public data good for public records? (I’m just curious). I know this sounds weird but is public data good for historical preservation and knowledge increasing the importance of the individual? And does public...

mojo,

The same reason I close my doors.

mojo,

This is the 20th post I’ve seen of this posted so far. And I shall uplemmy them all.

mojo,

Should instead be on the device and/or carrier side of things. Allow to set limits on mobile/wifi data and screen usage on the OS level for parental controls. Should definitely not be enforced by governments, but rather easily enforceable by parents.

mojo,

Closed unless it’s too hot in my room. Feels uncomfortable leaving my door open. It’ll let me hear killers coming

mojo,

That’s what they’re trying to sell you on, but it’s way more privacy invasive and this was boycotted pretty heavily already

mojo,

I’m a simple man. I see sync for Lemmy posted on 1000 communties and I uplemmy them all.

mojo,

I’m hyped to see Dune pt 2 when it comes out, and it’s more enjoyable to read the book beforehand to me. You know the deeper lore and appreciate the movie director’s take on the book.

mojo,

I’d imagine because they want as little compatibility issues with their product as possible so they just copy what’s already popular.

mojo,

Not in Utah to test, but does an encrypted DNS get past this?

mojo,

Dunno but I find them super annoying and a bitch to work with my password manager

Could you resist a true virtual reality and should you?

Lets assume we develop the capacity to create virtual worlds that are near indistinguishable from the real world. We hook you up into a machine and you now find yourself in what effectively is a paraller reality where you get to be the king of your own universe (if you so desire). Nothing is off limits - everything you’ve ever...

mojo,

Who’s going to pay the service costs to keep you in there uninterrupted?

mojo,

At that point it’d be a lot simpler and more sane to just pump yourself with insanely powerful happy drugs lol. At least you’d be in reality.

mojo,

If you’re on happy drugs, then why still try to escape it?

mojo,

For the girl I was really into to come back so I could talk to her one last time.

Steam On Linux Usage Spikes To Nearly 2% In July, Larger Marketshare Than Apple macOS (www.phoronix.com)

According to these new numbers from Valve, the Linux customer base is up to 1.96%, or a 0.52% jump over June! That’s a huge jump with normally just moving 0.1% or so in either direction most months… It’s also near an all-time high on a percentage basis going back to the early days of Steam on Linux when it had around a 2%...

mojo,

I just want games officially supported for proton. Linux ABI is still way too inconsistent compared to Wines, and a bitch to work with. Not to mention, performance tends to be better on proton games lol.

mojo,

PSA: if you install Obtanium, it’ll works as an updater for any git repo release apps like this. Just link the source code page and enable “enable prerelease” and it’ll download the APK, and it’ll check it periodically to run seamless updates. Also Obtainium will update itself from grabbing its own releases from it’s git repo page.

mojo,

Yes, mRNA was a huge breakthrough developed by the massive r&d rush from covid vaccine funding. Now we reap it’s benefits as it has a huge amount of applications on a lot of other things too.

Opinion: Distributions that only change non-system pre-installed software or desktop environment should instead be packages or scripts

The majority of Linux distributions out there seem to be over-engineering their method of distribution. They are not giving us a new distribution of Linux. They are giving us an existing distribution of Linux, but with a different distribution of non-system software (like a different desktop environment or configuration of it)...

mojo,

I just call them “flavours” or theme distros

mojo,

If you want to throw the word pseudoscience around, can you post any scientific evidence that beatin the meat causes porn addiction? I’ve been doing it my whole life and hasn’t caused me any issues, just ask ur mom after I banged her last night.

mojo,

Bro do you really think masturbating is the same as alcohol or drugs addiction lol. If you genuinely believe that, then idk what to tell you, you’re just wrong. Please try to look for a single scientific paper that supports this absolutely wild view. I will pay you in a million uplemmys.

mojo,

I don’t see the issue considering other AI models have already trained off of all Twitter tweets and then a lot more. Not to defend this racist fascist, but at least he’s stating he’s doing as such instead of steering the conversation away from data scraping like OpenAI.

mojo,

Dune and House of Leaves

mojo,

We really need Microsoft to stand up against this

mojo,

Nah, Microsoft is wayyyy too big for that to ever happen lol

mojo,

What’s the downside? Just something fun to do

mojo,

Why would you run Windows on this?

mojo,

Valve said they want to partner with companies to support it on other devices. Guess they haven’t taken up Valve’s offer for whatever reason. They should also have more faith on just how well proton works.

mojo,

Driver support is easier on Linux, and again I think you misunderstand how well Proton works.

mojo,

Email. Way too complicated and lots of maintenance. Not to mention it you mess it up, there are huge downsides.

mojo,

I use Bitwarden for everything, including my totp codes. I should probably use a separate app solely for Bitwarden’s totp code, but the danger of losing it all gives me such a rush!

mojo,

I don’t need it I don’t need it I don’t need it

mojo,

Moshidon for a Mastodon client

Droid-ify as a much better fdroid client

Another Notes to plan world domination

InnerTune as a great YouTube music ripping app

Feeder for RSS feeds

Xtra as a Twitch client

Tutanota for email/contacts/calendar

Fennec (or Mull) for a demozilla’d stable Firefox with all tracking/analytics/proprietary stuff removed

Mostly stock AOSP apps from my custom GrapheneOS rom.

Every one of those apps are on fdroid, except the built in stock apps obviously

mojo,

What do you do with Infinity now that it’s shut down

What are some game genres / styles you like that aren't being made anymore, or are being mde but not very often?

For me it’s first person puzzle games. I can think of maybe a dozen off the top of my head that came out in the last decade. I especially enjoy when they’re open world. The ability to just quit a puzzle that’s stumped you and go try something else for a little bit is incredibly refreshing.

mojo,

Games like whatever tf Jet Set Radio Future is

Also collect-a-thon platformers like back in the day, I still really enjoy those.

mojo,

Oh shit. I’ve known about this game for a long time now and have had it on my wishlist, but didn’t realize it comes out in like 2 weeks!

mojo,

The mastodon community is so incredibly bad, they’re the biggest downfall. They also actively push for development of harmful features that kills adoption. If you disagree, you have a “growth” mindset which is somehow bad, and must be a silicon valley tech bro that hates lgbtia. Thank god Lemmy is a good example that discoverbility doesn’t need to be broken with ActivityPub.

Also they really need an algo, I don’t care how much they preach that it’s better without. It’s just incredibly boring and hides high quality content without one.
