Thanks for clarifying, I’m also considering migrating from lemmy.world and I’m considering lemm.ee, would you recommend that for someone located in north africa (Morocco)? Will i get latency problems? My last concern is should I worry about it degenerating (i still dont get exactly how instances work)?
We have next door neighbors that are Muslim and are so very kind. They bring us plates of food when they cook and they even scared away some kids trying to steal our car at 2 in the morning....
Avoid anything alcoholic and all kind of meat except seafood. If it has to be food consider fruits or dried fruits (dates, almond, nuts…), honey and olive oil are also among guifts we give in my area (Morocco). A nice box of dates is my favorite or a game/toy for their toddler/child if they have any.
I’m helping a family member build a pc. He wanted to use Windows because “Linux can’t play games” despite me having a perfectly good gaming laptop running Linux that runs all my games, even graphically intensive ones....
According to these new numbers from Valve, the Linux customer base is up to 1.96%, or a 0.52% jump over June! That’s a huge jump with normally just moving 0.1% or so in either direction most months… It’s also near an all-time high on a percentage basis going back to the early days of Steam on Linux when it had around a 2%...
I’ve noticed this in pictures from accross asia, including india, singapore, and myannmar. This doesn’t exist in European or American road signage systems.
I consistently hear people on YouTube complain that the subscribe button doesn’t do anything for viewers, now that channel notifications are controlled by the bell. But it does do something: it puts the videos from that channel in your subscription feed, which is readily accessible on all versions of YouTube. So why do people...
I hope they would find a way to minimize fragmantation, instead of having one well maintained (lest’s say) ABC community we now have an ABC community per instance ([email protected], [email protected], abc@kbin,…) with one half active and the rest barely kicking off with mostly copy/paste content from other similar communities.
What the title says. I use “Liftoff on android” and I’m setting my feeds to be sorted by “top six hours” if that helps. I’m tired of those tree poisoning my feeds everytime I open lemmy, so I’m kindly asking if there is anyway to filter thise out from my feeds.
As many tinnitus sufferers like myself know, the never-ending ringing in your ears can become unbearable at times. Sometimes white noise can help by making it harder to distinguish the ringing from other sounds. I know I’ve run fans in my bedroom while falling asleep to help distract me, for example....
Do you really need all those apple products? There is tone of white noise apps in the store (I use android), I use “white noise baby sleep sound by amicoolsoft” to set some rain sound with thunder and make it play for 20-40min which is enough for me to fall asleep. I find earphones/headphonse uncomfortable so I play it on my phone speaker on medium low.
Imo Kde neon serves as a test bench for whoever want to try the latest KDE DE directly from the kde team, it is not maint for daily driver use though I tried it for a while and it was pretty reliable.
Kubuntu is an ubuntu with kde that is maint to be used for daily driver usage.
Across this vast Fediverse, I have encountered a trend of people answering questions with esoteric programming language speaking in tongues that I don’t understand, including under my own posts. Good news for you, I’m 33 years old and I canxt code yet. I just finisged a book about shell scripting (in Linux) so I can understands the scripts I see in github and made some simple ones to automate some of my needs. Now I want to up it up a bit with python and I’m starting a new book with Havard cx50 course. You are never too old to learn. My regret is that i did not start sooner, like when I was your age.
For context, LDAC is one of the few wireless audio codecs stamped Hi-Res by the Japan Audio Society and its encoder is open source since Android 8, so you can see just how long Windows is sleeping on this. I’m excited about the incoming next gen called LC3plus, my next pair is definitely gonna have that.
Don’t get me wrong. I love Linux and FOSS. I have been using and installing distros on my own since I was 12. Now that I’m working in tech-related positions, after the Reddit migration happened, etc. I recovered my interest in all the Linux environment. I use Ubuntu as my main operating system in my Desktop, but I always end...
It is amazing how 3 steps can be challenging for some even though these are explained in flathub (for all major distros) 1- install flatpak which should install a pluging for gui Package manager automatically. 2- add flathub repo. 3- Configure your gui package manager to default to flathub 4- enjoy installing rhe latest software from flathub without even needing root password (except for Opensuse TW)
So I’ve been using Linux for about a year and a half, have been using Window managers since a few wweks in, have been using Wayland for the last 3 months or so, and have been using Hyprland for about a month. I love it and I want to stick with it in the long term, but I need a distro that supports it....
I’ve been using linux for some time now, i would still say i’m quite a noob but i’ve tried different desktop environments, for my experience i found GNOME to always be suited for me, anyway i heard many good opinions on KDE and i would love to try that too, i’ve tried cinnamon before and couldn’t really see myself...
About 4 years ago I got a 13.3" Thinkpad laptop to replace an old Chromebook for portable development, and installed Arch + i3 on it (btw). After a bit of ricing the configs, it started feeling really homey. I love using workspaces here! They feel perfectly suited for laptop screens which have minimal space, allowing me to keep...
I switched to sway on both my lapto (13" 1080p) and desktop (27" 1440) to force myself on using workspaces, and man i have to say I was missing out a lot, now I thinking of giving Hyprland a try to for dynamic tiling which sound fantastic especially for bigger screens.
Shots fired by Oracle. I trust them about as much as I have a chance of sailing with Larry Ellison (also, ever notice how he looks like a Bond villain?), but I could see their arguments swaying at least a few folks who are looking for a corporate-backed enterprise distro that has the resources and incentive to keep up. Maybe at...
Make sure you are selecting the instance holding your account. Eg: if you signed up on “lemmy.world”, then in your mobile app > in the log in page select “lemmy.world” then enter your creds and log in.
What are some good European Lemmy instances?
Edit: thanks everyone for the suggestions!...
