I really enjoyed the terraformers, furious heaven, the mimicking of known successes and Lost in the Moment and Found.

I was curious about Rose/House. And now I've got a few more to add to my reading list thanks to you!

I think I need to pick up some 500 pagers to round out the year.

Any doorstopper suggestions? @bookstodon

Thank you! I'm going to add these to my list. Thankfully, my library has The Third Person!

I definitely enjoyed Wayward and Wanderers.

Tell me a good book you’ve read this year that you’d recommend.

I’ll start: Crow Mary by Kathleen Grissom

Happy New Day to all who observe. I preordered it on libro so it was waiting for me when I woke up this morning and I got to listen to a bit of it. Excited to finish the rest later today :)

Introduced the child to The Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett.

Review “it was fine.” (Which is high praise, he’s a tough critic.)

For me, I enjoyed it, I had not read any Terry Pratchett before, but I expect we’ll be checking out some of the other books in the Discworld Series.

Starting with finishing the rest of the Tiffany Aching books. 😄 @bookstadon

I really enjoyed the book. An android with human-like features is nothing new in sci-fi, but I really liked this version. The main character android is very likeable.

@Omom4075 @bookstodon I think it’s got a bunch of well executed and unique takes on a lot of old sci-fi tropes. The rest of the series is worth reading.

A thing I like to do is pre-order books months in advance and then completely forget I did that.
Then I have a happy little surprise delivery of one of my favourite things. Thanks Past Me!

The only problem is sometimes the forgetting is so successful that I buy another copy of the same book by accident.

Usually only if I happen to walk into a store around the time of the release date. Or if there is a launch event, but still. It's a little silly.

Dear @bookstadon Can I see or read about how you store your books?

I have enjoyed many fantastic Pride and Prejudice retellings this year.

Most recently (i.e. yesterday)

A fantasy Pride and Prejudice world with Fae, magic, scandal, twists and turns, action, villains, grand loves, and all the yearning you could want. Absolutely loved it.

I also loved how long it was - I finish books so quickly and this had a story I could really sink my teeth into.

I also finished Dear Nameless Stranger by Jeannie Peneaux last night.

Which was a partially epistolary variation and I was actually rather delighted by the whole thing.

Felt like a fairly fresh take, and I liked that other sisters got a chance to exist and become real full people, but everything still felt true to character.

@AbigailReynolds @bookstadon I look forward reading it! Pride and Prejudice fantasy variations are becoming a major favourite!

@lunalein @bookstodon I find every Ali Hazelwood book I've picked up intolerable.

I find the trope of the silly, poor communication, genius scientist woman horribly tedious. I appreciate it makes some people feel seen - I just think that sometimes the characters are so smart and capable, that their behaviour isn't commensurate with their abilities, and we only see their gaffs, and none of their smarts.

how to cook plain scrambled JustEgg?

@vegan

I've never cooked scrambled chicken eggs so telling me to do it like that is useless. Their website is terrible (on mobile at least) and search engines don't work like they used to... I just want to know how long until it's cooked, if I need to put oil in the pan, and is a spatula really necessary over a spoon? What's this about flipping and curdling? I'm totally lost here. I've scrambled tofu before- is this the same?

meshell,
@meshell@mastodon.social avatar

@duckweed @vegan Not much like tofu.

There is a texture you're looking for with scrambled JustEgg more than a clearly defined timeframe. It'll stop being liquid, & be more of a fluffier semi-solid texture. It's great when most of it has just changed form.

The spatula is great because it wont damage non-stick cookware, I also find it easier to move things around.

I put a touch of oil when I'm cooking it, but if you're using non-stick cookware, you probably don't have to.

@bookstadon Cheers, I wondered if anyone could share a non-fiction book they really enjoyed?

@lunalein @bookstodon I feel the same way about Akwawke Emezi.

I will likely buy anything from Charlie Jane Adams, Becky Chambers, NK Jemisin, Andrew Joseph White, Martha Wells, Shannon Chakraborty, Jeff Vandermeer, probably someone else that I really like but I’m forgetting at the moment.

Not authour specific but anything published by Stelliform Press is generally a safe bet for me.
