I really enjoyed the book. An android with human-like features is nothing new in sci-fi, but I really liked this version. The main character android is very likeable.

@Omom4075 @bookstodon I think it’s got a bunch of well executed and unique takes on a lot of old sci-fi tropes. The rest of the series is worth reading.

@meshell @timgatewood @bookstodon Actually I'm on line waiting for the second book from the library

Novel is a quick read and plot is quite simple.
Surrounding world is not very widely depicted : there could have been more in-depth information on what kind of future world the story takes place in. On the other hand, when things are briefly explained, the story remains light and nice. I've been a bit tired of overly complicated plot patterns, which in the end stumble over their own feet when the threads are no longer in control.

Thank you for your recommendation. Martha Wells books are on my reading list, so I'm glad to hear it's a good story and fun to read.

@EvaLie @Omom4075 @bookstodon FWIW, The Murder Bot Diary is book one in a series that's still ongoing, so some of the lack in that book may be made up in later volumes. IIRC, these are novellas or short novels, so there's only so much you can fit in.

@timgatewood @EvaLie @Omom4075 @bookstodon I just discovered these! Love Murderbot’s relationship with media. On bad days we’re all murderbot I think.

I agree that the Murderbot universe gets fleshed out as the series proceeds. I also find it interesting that the light touch and humor of the books runs parallel to Murderbot’s anxiety/PTSD and the many very heavy moments and themes. I’m interested in where Wells is taking the series in the next book (out next month! 🙂)

@peachfront @Katma @timgatewood @bookstodon @EvaLie It's great to know that the series is going well. I've only read that one book, but I'm excited looking forward to the next one.

Oh, I love this series. Book 2 may be my favorite (ART is the best). Or maybe the more recent full length novel. Or the murder mystery Sam Spade-esque stand alone novella (set just before the longer novel). So hard to pick!
