I think I need to pick up some 500 pagers to round out the year.

Any doorstopper suggestions? @bookstodon

@meshell @bookstodon If you want to read a good biography/historical book. Path Lit By Lightning by David Maraniss is about Jim Thorpe the Native American super-athlete and the history of how Native Americans were treated as well, it's an amazing read. It's 575 pages of story and 659 pages overall with notes, indexes, etc at the end. A well-researched and written book.

11/22/63, Stephen King. A departure from horror for him. Fascinating speculative fiction/alt history: What if JFK were not assassinated? Also, a beautiful side love story which captivated me, a non-romance reader. 849 pages.

The Third Person, Emma Grove. Graphic novel. Story pieces together how the author navigated the difficulties of transitioning, and of the required therapy which goes with it, which revealed that she had dissociative identity disorder. Frank, tender, illuminating, impactful. 889 pages. Available in e-book format.

Wayward, Chuck Wendig. Totally engrossing post-apocalyptic story.

A Short History of Nearly Everything, Bill Bryson. Absolute stunning classic. 694 pages, but you'll fly through it.

Thank you! I'm going to add these to my list. Thankfully, my library has The Third Person!

I definitely enjoyed Wayward and Wanderers.

@meshell @bookstodon If you like non-fiction, or even if you don't and want to try it some time, I will forever reccommend to people Simon Schama’s “The Embarrassment of Riches: An Interpretation of Dutch Culture in the Golden Age”. Tho the paper back version i had to re buy recently was utter crap, so I'd go for a hardcover. Weighs in at 698 pages.

@godofbiscuits @meshell @bookstodon Simon Schama is my favorite historian and this is the only big history book of his I haven’t read. Hoping to get to it next year.

@adamvolle @meshell @bookstodon the print on the final page of the main body of text is a perfectly chosen one for Schama’s point. I laughed. I might even buy the hardcover just to get a clean image of it to get printed larger. I hope you enjoy it. For me it was transformative and opened up huge worlds.

@meshell @bookstodon Ducks, Newburyport by Lucy Ellmann. One sentence, sort of, but one you've got into it you'll be hooked.
