It's annoying that the next book hasn't come out yet and the story should continue. :blob_disapproval:

Yeah, I did like the book and the characters. Didn't like the story unfinished.

@micheleann @bookstodon I agree. I also feel that the development of the plot was a bit forced towards the end. It could well have been calmer and include a nice ending without the gliffhanger. If book is interesting, the next one will also be read with pleasure, without forcing.
Although in many ways I like these books, I don't like the elements familiar from the TV series, where the first chapter rushes into the action as a "sneak peek" and non ending "continues in the next episode".

I really enjoyed the book. An android with human-like features is nothing new in sci-fi, but I really liked this version. The main character android is very likeable.

Novel is a quick read and plot is quite simple.
Surrounding world is not very widely depicted : there could have been more in-depth information on what kind of future world the story takes place in. On the other hand, when things are briefly explained, the story remains light and nice. I've been a bit tired of overly complicated plot patterns, which in the end stumble over their own feet when the threads are no longer in control.

@peachfront @Katma @timgatewood @bookstodon @EvaLie It's great to know that the series is going well. I've only read that one book, but I'm excited looking forward to the next one.

trilogy:

The first itself did not convince me. The world was interesting for its own systems, but the story itself and the characters felt a bit empty and cliché.

However, even the first book was enough to make me want to read the next one.
By the middle of the second book, the story and characters became more interesting. Or the suction of the story was already pulling me with it.

The third book went very smoothly right after others. On the end I liked all the characters, even though many of them seemed boring at the beginning. The plot in general took nice different angles as the book series progressed. So, all in all, in the end, I liked the trilogy.

@owlislost @bookstodon I was about to read Karherine Kerr's Darkspell (Deverry 2). I didn't have time earlier today and now it's too late at night that I can't start reading anymore (or I won't sleep at all). But maybe tomorrow :blobcatreach:

Omom4075,

@MaryAustinBooks @owlislost @bookstodon There was a lot of violence in the first book too, so I guess I'm not really surprised.

Omom4075,
@Omom4075@mastodon.world avatar

@MaryAustinBooks @owlislost @bookstodon Good point. And I have to say that 'cause the violence, the first book didn't make it to the top of my very favourite books, although I'm interested enough to read second book.

Omom4075,
@Omom4075@mastodon.world avatar

@elysegrasso @MaryAustinBooks @owlislost @bookstodon Oh, I really didn't know that. I actually read the translated version. It just mentions that the original version is Daggerspell 1986. So I guess it's just based on that. Well, if I want to read more of that series, I'll have to find the English versions because there are no more translations. Maybe I should also find the 1993 version of Daggerspell if there are any major differences.

Richard K. Morgan: Altered Garbon (2001)
Sarah J. Maas: House of Earth and Blood (last book has not been published, should I wait for it?)

@GoblinQuester @bookstodon Thanks for the interesting suggestion. I have to see where to find this, because it has not been published as a book in Finland. Maybe Amazon or an e-book.

Stephanie Garber:

I liked very much. Althought the end of the book can be guessed soon, there were interesting happenings in the book that you did not expect. You can't always be sure what's going on, what are characters true motives, etc. There are lots of mysteries and romance. I enjoyed the descriptive writing style.

Perfect for spending a Friday night under a blanket.

One thing that irritates me: Again the combination of a young and inexperienced woman and, of course, a young-looking but actually old old man. Could it be more clichéd?

Finished Stephanie Garber: ( 2)

This book was fabilous too. Althought it was a bit darker and the depicted place was no longer as magical as in the first one. On the end some of the plot twists were quite obvious, but some came as a surprise. I really like the author's style.

  • Still the same (one) criticism as my comment under Spoiler Warning (above)

Correction I was supposed to write, is the name od the book. For some absurd reason, the name of the book in the Finnish translation has been changed to . In English, the book is called . I don't understand why the name was changed.

  • Still have same (one) critism as my comment under spoiler warning (above, under my first comment).

Stephanie Garber: ( 3)

I have now read the last part of the trilogy. Mainly I just repeat the same pattern as in the previous books: I like the author's style and the world she has created. Some of the plot twists were surprising, some were not.
A few things were left unexplained in my opinion: I didn't see a logical reason for some of the characters' actions: Why did some decide to do what they did.

@bookstodon

Omom4075,

Now I feel sad for ending the reading trip. Of course, the next trilogy in the same world exists, although I guess it hasn't been completely translated yet. I'm not sure if I should try to read it in English or Finnish. Mostly I usually preferred translations. But I am also quite impatient.
