mayo,

Villeneuve has been really disappointing. He was good with smaller, more gritty stuff but isn’t a good epic director.

ChallengeApathy, to firefox
@ChallengeApathy@infosec.exchange avatar

I really appreciate @firefox adding the ability to enable custom search engines for searching with the address bar. As someone who just types my searches direct to the address bar, not having the option to use my search engine of choice was a problem that's now solved!

mayo,

It is in chrome, but implemented differently. Firefox actually does it better since you can save them as bookmarks

mayo,

They’ll get more votes but people are still going to vote strategically because what choice do they have.

mayo,

Tenant providing bear minimum information and impatient landlord. Engaging post OP.

mayo,

Bags are great for cable organization. I like one bag per item with painters tape for labeling. Big cables, like that HDMI, can be velcro’d.

mayo,

Stores do this for every cable (unless it’s a box) that’s where I originally got the idea. I bought two boxes of small sandwich bags and that’s been all I’ve needed to wrap every spare cable at work and my own cables at home.

Plastic is actually an awesome material, it’s just overused. Wrapping sandwiches in these bags seems like the real waste.

mayo,

Ugh I really want to out the company I work at. Of all companies we should be going and advocating for remote.

But we aren’t. ‘Because being with each is SO valuable’.

mayo,

Lol no I wish!

I swear to god we just had all our leases expire and chose to renew ALL OF THEMMMM.

In fact, for the main office we’ve just signed a new multi-year lease in a new building. It’s smaller tho. Renovations currently in progress.

But no raises. Times are too tough.

mayo,

(Also no to ownership. All the offices are leased.)

mayo,

Political or not a non-profit is a non-profit. Unity defines charity some new way I guess.

mayo,

I went to one on Friday (not NY) AMA

mayo,

A little less than the last big one I went to, but not bad. Several thousand people for sure. Critical mass during the walk. The large majority of people bail during the end speeches.

mayo,

Overrated. The real perk is learning how to not eat it all at once

mayo,

I used a tutorial book to help me create a python text game, then I rewrote it and have been casually adding things. I sort of want to re-write it again in Java to see how it compares, I’m more comfortable with java so I’m hoping I could focus more on system design. I’m noticing that the more I add to the base game the more spread out my solutions become, so addressing that is the main interest I have with it.

A new project I’m working on is a simple web scraper. I liked building a lexer/parser in the text game and I think having my own web scraper would be useful.

I’m still learning so I aim for projects I can ‘finish’ in 2-4 weeks.

Oh and a windows notepad that looks like the windows notepad except more customizable. I like the idea of building utilities.

mayo,

I had a different reaction to the notification led. I don’t like my electronics glowing or blinking in the dark. I still liked my old android tablet, but it had to sleep face down because I could not turn the LED off.

The current trend of drawn waifu/ anime porn/ child-looking-like sexualised girls is CRINGE af

I just can’t, and sadly it’s worst in Linux community. Like dude’s face hair makes him look 45, but no, he does a desktop with a cringy looking 15 old anime girl. (That, on top of hiz annoyingly high pitched voice but whatever) I just stop watching the video on the spot, it’s beyond dumb....

mayo,

Side note, are there any hentai sites that don’t have loli content?

mayo,

I always thought of that site being more just pics and less comics/stories?

mayo,

I made the argument that it’s expensive but it was more based on the idea that I can get a cheapo used console with a few games and that’ll do me for a whole generation. That and I think that PC gaming has a deeper void to get sucked into (mainly keyboards and monitors)

But now a couple weeks later and I realize that I really enjoy my crappy business desktop PC and I could see building a PC in the future.

They each have their advantages. When I go to a friends house we play console. At home I’d rather play PC, if I had the choice.

mayo,

It was built for rich republicans and now it’s home to their base.

mayo,

It’s more that the US is all about personal liberty and personal freedoms. Other places that you’re referring to have a charter of rights, which still allow for personal freedoms but are also constructed to protect minorities or at risk groups, like Jewish people.

That said the Bill of Rights that the Americans produced was first of it’s kind and amazing. Personally I just don’t think they got it quite right and charter of rights take into account the personal liberties of all people and not just the dominant majority.

mayo,

I would shocked if apple tried breaking into console wars.

I’ll even be surprised if any of the handhelds other than steamdeck + switch survive the decade.

mayo,

Could it handle doing that all day? That would so cool, but aren’t there thermal limitations?

mayo,

We do that in Vancouver and it’s good. The fines are steep.

But it’s opened a mini industry of people being paid to visit homes so they aren’t ‘empty’.

mayo,

Nothing wrong with simple recipes!

mayo,

I think this would just nurture that particular type of anxiety.

mayo,

I’d say .world has been the most reddit-like for me. Overall it’s still good here but I’m also looking forward to it simmering down for a while.

I haven’t actually noticed hexbear at all and I’m on an instance that isn’t defed

mayo,

Oh dude you’re missing out.

Join .today or something, then use a tool to copy your subscriptions from ediblefriend@world to the new instance. You don’t get to see the Local feed from world, but All and Subscribed are the same. That’s it.

Russian ambassador told Moscow that Kushner wanted secret communications channel with Kremlin (www.washingtonpost.com)

Jared Kushner and Russia’s ambassador to Washington discussed the possibility of setting up a secret and secure communications channel between Trump’s transition team and the Kremlin, using Russian diplomatic facilities in an apparent move to shield their pre-inauguration discussions from monitoring, according to U.S....

mayo,

Wow look at that reaction! You guys think I’m a MAGA or something because I quoted this?

mayo,

I don’t doubt it, but what I was getting at was that I wonder if Kushner hasn’t had more serious investigations into these allegations because it is hard to 100% prove and the article brings that up. Obviously Kushner isn’t going to say anything to the FBI, and Flynn is also being silent so the FBI has to rely on a potentially sketchy source. Not much to stand on given that I’m hoping we get to see Kushner in jail one day.

mayo,

Damn 19C! My apartment is 24 right now and it feels cozy. When I bake it gets to 27. Without heat in the winter it hovers around 16 inside.

I’d consider going somewhere with more extreme day/night cycles like the Northwest territories, but within Canada I’m basically happy where I am. I like the super long days in the summer and I’m also ok living in the dark most of the winter as long as I can stay active.

mayo,

I think Ziltoid was doing a jeopardy, but it was nice to answer the question either way.

mayo,

Not yet but one day. If I could get a phone and keep it for 20 years (with repairs/upgraded parts) then I’d switch.

If apple removes the plug then i’ll start considering the other options when my current phone becomes unusable. Until then it’s too easy to buy an old iphone and hold onto it for 6 years.

mayo,

This is the one I’m thinking of. Love the concept. Potential challenge is that in Canada things, in particular, shipping is expensive. I’m pretty broke right now so my inclination is to save money over the long run and not be wasteful.

I’m not a phone person though. Useful device but not something that takes up much of my day to day time.

mayo,

A festival shooing away protestors protesting climate change and then that festival experiencing an extreme weather event because of climate change

mayo,

It just happened and was in the news so shouldn’t be hard to find if you have the nagging curiousities

mayo,

Not at all. That’s how it works. More climate change, more random weather events. Or if you like things simple “it rained because of climate change”.

mayo,

Is there a word for it? When I posted it I was hoping someone might correct me :)

mayo,

Excellent :)

Of all the things people do for whatever reason human trafficking really irks me. It’s like wholesale destroying of lives.

mayo,

I didn’t know that! Makes me think :) thanks

mayo,

I like that idea. Continuing to make money, no matter if it’s just a few hundred dollars a month, is the main hurdle for me to leave. You’d still need to finance construction but it’s a good long term vision.

I am worried about fire seasons/smoke seasons. At best it shortens the tourist season and at worst I lose everything : /

mayo,

I feel like you don’t actually know that and it’s just your opinion.

mayo,

I’d say just smaller, less scripted content. Maybe that’s what tiktok is.

mayo,

I will definitely be doing this in the future. I loove smoothies.

mayo,

Mainly when I created this post I was thinking of cookies and peanut butter, but also presumably ice cream. Probably a McDonalds smoothie is also cheaper than a home made smoothie (if we’re just looking at $/ml).

Granted cookies can be done cheaper, but when I made cookies on my own for the first time I was shocked by the butter content. Could buy a pack of low quality cookies for the cost of the butter in a 12 cookie recipe.

mayo,

You’ll have to go and learn to find out! Can’t do any harm.

This book is excellent www.amazon.ca/…/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2YHH09AXAW3HG&amp…

You can also ask pi for an introduction pi.ai/talk

mayo,

I keep making the mistake of commenting on things that I have no desire to dig into. Apologies if I was rude. It really is an interesting area if you find yourself curious about it one day.
