“ass”

That’s not how this works is it?

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

Screw Google. I made a little donation, hope your project really takes off in 2024!

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

Critical minerals for the green energy transition. Do you really need to fuck up the seabed for this?

Ah, oil companies. Finding new ways to harm the environment while filling their pockets.

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

Free as in riddled with ads probably?

Arch for many, many years. Absolutely zero reasons to switch. I used to distro hop alot back in the day but I don’t bother with that anymore. I need a system that works and Arch gives me exactly that.

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

Soooo many people boarded the hype train. Speaking of, there’s only a few hundred viewers left on Twitch as well, 2 months after release lol.

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

No. Also uninstalled the app and use Invidious.

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

This game is awesome and deserves more credit than it receives. The only thing it lacks imo is built-in multiplayer support (right now you can have mp with a mod but it has some flaws).

“Cool tech! Welcome to McDonalds. Can I take your order please?” - Former camera men, graphics artists and video editors, probably.

I use pip extensively and have zero issues.

npm pulls in a million dependencies for even the simplest functionality.

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

Nope. I know mixing pip with python packages installed through your systems package manager can be a problem but that’s why I containerize everything.

Since Brave is apparently absolutely terrible, is Vivaldi any better?

I daily drive Firefox, but more and more websites are starting to break without Chromium, so I still have to occasionally switch to get something working. I was using Ungoogled Chromium until I realized that there was no easy way to update it when that pixel-stealing exploit came out a while back....

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

What sites do you have issues with if I may ask?

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

See if you can find the chinese backdoor on it.

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

I only use windows for gaming, linux for everything else and have been for many years. I upgraded from windows 10 to windows 11 and had zero issues. It actually is starting to look better as well.

That said, more and more games run just fine on Linux now so I probably won’t need a dualboot system anymore at some point.

Neovim user here. Granted it takes some time to setup properly but it’s really fast with navigating through files, lsp functions and doing a search in thousands of files.

I found vscode too slow and bloated for my taste.

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

For me personally I am most productive in Neovim. But if you can’t be arsed to fiddle around with config files to get things set up it’s probably not worth the effort.

Use what works best for you.

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

Not only France unfortunately. This is happening all over Europe.

Teams is a fucking joke and I hate it.

Login loops, cookie mess, until recently calling not supported on Firefox (like what?)

I mean it’s 2023 and you come up with this abomination, Microsoft?

Teams should be illegal at this point.

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

I read somewhere Firefox now changes its user agent automatically for Teams, maybe that fixed it.

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

DDG. I used Searxng selfhosted for a while but it was a bit too slow with its results.

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

Is there anything like LibreTube for iOS?

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

I have the feeling the whole internet is turning into shit rapidly. Youtube is crap, Reddit is crap, everything you use needs a cloud account, my doorbell is sending me notifications about a new product, wtf is up with that. I paid for that thing and now you send me ads? Pisses me off. This corporate greed is getting too much.

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

Yes it’s hard to deal with. I try to do my best to boycot companies that do this. Youtube, Reddit, Google search and chrome are things I don’t use anymore and the list keeps growing. My next doorbell will be a different brand but choices are limited ofcourse.

On the other hand, there are more and more alternatives popping up lately, Mastodon, Lemmy, Peertube. This is a sign that people are getting tired of this shit. I hope this trend continues.

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

Thanks I will look into this, also using Home Assistant.

Two dead, one wounded. Suspect is supposedly a student at Erasmus and has been arrested.

What are some FOSS programs that you think are a far better user experience than their counterparts? (sh.itjust.works)

I used Plex for my home media for almost a year, then it stopped playing nice for reasons I gave up on diagnosing. While looking at alternatives, I found Jellyfin which is much more responsive, IMO, and the UI is much nicer as well....

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

100%.

Jellyfin looks like a nice alternative to Plex but I had all kinds of playback issues with it on different platforms. Kodi just works.

Arson attacks at schools in Belgium are believed to be connected to a controversial sex ed program (apnews.com)

Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said on Friday that he will seek the help of government experts on extremism in the wake of a series of school arsons. Officials believe the attacks are connected to a controversial sexual education school program....

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

No need to imply, it is stated in the article.

I’ve watched some of the reverse engineering video’s of the graphics card. Very impressive.

If they can get the speakers to work and make suspend stable I will definitely give it a go on my M1 Pro.

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

Hardware-wise it’s the best laptop you can buy. It’s fast, quiet with amazing battery life. Speakers are superb. Keyboard, touchpad and display it’s just very nice to work with. I’ve had several non Apple laptops in the past and they’re just no match.

Only thing is MacOS, I just can’t get used to it. It is not that big of an issue for me because I mostly just use a terminal and a browser on it (it’s not my main computer). But being able to run Linux natively on it would be nice.

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

Do you self host Invidious? I have zero issues with it self hosted.

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

I also host it (locally). Added an Invidious instance as well 🤓

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

I only use Windows for gaming, upgraded from 10 to 11 and have zero issues.

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

Main reason for me is because I don’t have to manage the position or size of apps I open.

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

Would be interesting if there was a limited supply.

Otherwise I don’t see the advantage, it is still being controlled by a central entity.

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

Yeah I am really ashamed about my fellow countrymen behaving like complete retards and messing up your country.

These people should get some jail time or at least a huge fine for this.

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

Yeah that’s true I guess. Happens a lot in other countries too. Unlimited drinking for x consecutive nights for xx euro’s, that’s just asking for trouble.

krimson,
@krimson@feddit.nl avatar

These universal chat apps often do not offer all of the features the underlying apps have. Which makes sense but is probably a reason they never get massively adopted.

I just blocked cats. I like cats. But there’s a gazillion of cats on my feed all of a sudden.

Cats.
