disappointed that this uses AI instead of something like Microsoft’s PhotoDNA that compares image hashes. AI has too much (unnecessary & unacceptable) risk of false positives that results in overbroad censorship.
there’s no such thing as “AI-generated CSAM”. CSAM literally is created by abusing a real human child. There’s no such thing as an “AI child”. It would be a much better idea to protect *ACTUAL existing children instead of wasting resources on checks notes fiction
false positives not only leads to unnecessary censorship, but it also wastes resources that would be better used to protect *ACTUAL victims and children (although, the optimal solution is protecting people before any harm is done so that we don’t even need these “band-aid” solutions for reacting afterward)
an imaginary person has no ID because an imaginary person doesn’t exist. Why do you care about protecting imaginary characters instead of protecting actual real existing human beings?
so you admit that like most people you don’t actually give a shit about protecting anyone. You would rather protect imaginary fake fictional characters because it’s easier and makes you “feel good about yourself”. I genuinely hate performative assholes (which is 99% of humans, let’s be honest. 99% of people only care about their feelings and making themselves feel good by thinking that they are doing something good, not actually doing a good thing). There’s no evidence that fictional material is harmful, in fact, quite the opposite there is some evidence that access to fictional material may actually protect kids and prevent abuse from occurring, by serving as a harmless sexual outlet. I mean let’s put it this why, go ask a victim of sexual abuse “If you had a choice, would you prefer that your abuser abused you or that your abuser relieved their pent-up sexual frustration to some fictional material” I guarantee 100% of them will say that they would prefer to have not been abused.
I need to put some order with the photos I take and I receive with my android phone. Just now I use Nextcloud sync client to upload and Photo/Memories Nextcloud Apps to manage photos....
sounds like to much work. I just use the privacy-oriented photo backup solution ente. (And, because I’m an android user – plus having multiple backups – I also use Google Photos)
the one thing you do not do with this shit is use AI (too much risk of false positives. I mean, I remember Facebook’s AI thought that an onion was nudity (probably thought it was a boob).
But tools do exist. PhotoDNA by Microsoft. Although much more user-friendly implementation if you use Cloudflare, related links:
(Just a quick disclaimer. I am vehemently opposed to prison and think we would be better off getting rid of it and actually helping people.)
It never ceases to baffle me the amount of gender-based double standards or shitty sexist society has. If a guy did this we would get a life sentence (likely without parole). And a death sentence in a death penalty state. But, because the person that did this is female, she doesn’t get a life sentence or death penalty, she gets the luxury of getting to walk out of prison after a time of serving a sentence (just to be clear. I don’t think any prison time is ever justified or ethical. But that’s not the point. The point is to call out our misandrist society. I hope one day Equality might actually be a thing, thought it will likely be long after my lifetime.
This may finally be the thing that kills twitter. I mean. Twitter is the only platform to do something batshit insane like removing a safety feature like blocking. Twitter is about to become downright dangerous for marginalized populations (LGBTQ+, autistic, sex workers…)
i am looking for a wearable. maybe a watch, a wrist band or a ring. what is the most privacy respecting way, with preferably free and open source software, of monitoring my sleep?
I like my Fitbit Charge 5. Honestly, really the only reason that I went with a health/fitness tracker instead of a smartwatch is battery life. As much as the extra features of a smartwatch would be nice. The problem with smartwatches is that you have to charge them daily (something I already do with my phone, and I’d rather not add another device that I have to do that for). Whereas, with a health/fitness tracker (like the Fitbit Charge 5) I only have to charge it like… every couple of days (I haven’t kept track, sadly, but I’d estimate at least a minimum of 5 days)
I keep hoping that smartwatches will get good enough battery life like health trackers that they’ll be viable (the pixel smartwatch looks nice), but we haven’t reached that day yet.
It will be open source, end to end encrypted using Signal’s double ratchet encryption protocol, and he plans to make it easy for fediverse platforms to integrate it. The beta will release later this month....
Wait. Is this the actually celebrity and not just someone using the name? Because honestly if this is the actual person it’s always kinda cool to see “famous people” doing normal people things like say having tech related or privacy related interests and hobbies (idk i just listed that because i can relate to it)
Hello! My smartphone is dying, so I’ll soon have to buy a new one. I’d like my new phone to have pure Android, without all the apps that manufactures install. My instance is pixelfed.social. no matter what browser i use (librewolf/firefox, brave, edge on desktop. Brave/firefox on Mobile) importing simply doesn’t work. It lets me select the file and nothing further post that point 🤷♀️

It’ll probably never happen because the unemployment rate for autistic people is 85%. But in an ideal world, I’d love to build my own (if there’s any sugar mommies/daddies out there that feel like spoiling someone 🤔):
edit: motherboard seems out-of-stock, so if this ever becomes a reality, might have to make some adjustments for a different micro itx motherboard (plus compatible cpu of course. no biggie, thanks to the existence of pcpartpicker, compatibility is a breeze!)
I feel like I’m the only one that doesn’t mind people joining threads. It gets more people to join the fediverse (a good thing), which not only introduces more people to the fediverse (potentially with them moving to other instances) but also potentially gets more people to set up their own personal instances for themselves OR a group of family/friends
I’m fairly new and don’t 100% understand it yet, but instances are run on servers that require money. Are we heading towards seeing ads or subscriptions to raise funds instead of relying on donations to cover overhead?...

ok. who are these girls? I've seen this pic before. But I have no idea who they are (funnily enough the girl on the left kinda looks like the oldest daughter of my neighbors behind me that is a couple years younger than me. But I'm quite positive it's not her.)
just as long as it’s not a shitty scenario such as using discord where the information is 1. not publicly searchable because it’s stuck behind a login page, and 2. even though technically discord has a search function, good luck finding what you’re looking for
yes please. I doubt this’ll do anything to make removable batteries return for those of us in north america. But I’d like to think that maybe it will. My biggest complaint with smartphones is no removable battery forcing me to have to get a new phone every 2 years because the battery life just starts to suck.
It would be cheaper to make one device for everywhere. However, what doesn’t actually matter. Didn’t spoke make two separate iPhones one with a physical SIM card and one without 🤦♀️
