harsh3466,

I just started scrobbling with Listenbrainz. I do it through an anonymous account, and the scrobbling comes through my self hosted music server.

I’m trying it out to see if I like the recommendations. If I do I’ll consider it a fair trade off in privacy for now.

harsh3466,

Another sync option is self hosting the Joplin server.

recommendations for lightweight window managers for an old netbook

Hi, I’ve got an old netbook from Samsung that has an old Intel Atom CPU (Intel Atom N455 1.66 GHz). I installed Arch on it and am now thinking of a suitable window manager. I tried Hyprland (kinda expecting it to not work really) whick didn’t start at all. Before I had Debian with Gnome, which technically worked, but...

harsh3466,

I loved CrunchBang. Wish it was still around.

harsh3466,

Oh dang. I’m going to have to give that a spin.

harsh3466,

Demons by Allison Russell. Honestly, I’m obsessed with the whole album, but this track in particular has me captivated.

harsh3466,

Also, love this type of thread. My favorite thing about lemmy has been making it my music discovery engine. I’ve bookmarked this thread to check out everything everyone else is listening to.

What are Your Thoughts on Overcoming Internet Addiction and Leading a More Purposeful Life? (www.youtube.com)

I recently came across a thought-provoking video that delved into the struggle of overcoming internet addiction. The speaker reflected on a decade lost to the virtual world, a place that often felt more real than reality itself. Despite having a successful freelancing career and a growing YouTube channel, they found themselves...

harsh3466,

I’ve been thinking about diving into rhetoric study. Do you have a suggestion as to a good book or other source for someone like me to get started?

harsh3466,

That is awesome. Thank you so much! I’ve added them to my reading list!

harsh3466,

‘Google trashes its “DRM for the Web” API for now’ should be the actual headline

harsh3466,

Joplin also supports end to end encryption on your notes, and you can self host the sync server for free sync you control.

Edit to add: you can also sync it via self hosted WebDAV (like nextcloud)

harsh3466,

It is. I used to sync mine via nextcloud, but I don’t run nextcloud on my homelab anymore, so I switched to Joplin server. Nothing wrong with nextcloud, was just not what I needed.

harsh3466,

Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians

harsh3466,

I’ve never heard Mitski before. I’m excited to listen!

harsh3466,

This whole album is just so good. Gives me chills every time I listen.

harsh3466,

I must be an outlier because I found the conclusion of season one to be a huge letdown. To be sure the build up was great, but that ending was so predictable and disappointing that I haven’t bothered with subsequent seasons.

Not as much of a let down as season eight of GoT, but it still tainted the whole season and show for me.

harsh3466,

How do you put your tabs on the side? That sounds amazing.

harsh3466,

Awesome. Thank you!!!

harsh3466,

Great album to kick off the album club!

I have not listened to this album in a very long time, I listened to it several times this week and enjoyed it every time.

I was never a deep R.E.M. fan. I came to them with Out of Time, and album that I love to this day, and because that was my first R.E.M. album all others are kind of secondary to it. (I also love the subversive nature of oot)

So, for aftp, Drive is my favorite track. Such mood and atmosphere to this song. It always draws me in and makes me feel melancholy in a good way. It’s like the capstone to the entire mood and atmosphere of the album.

This album as a whole just sucks me back to the 90s, hanging out with my first girlfriend and her friend listening to cds and just being dumb teenagers.

harsh3466,

So I’m listening to aftp again right now and every song is a moody, atmospheric banger. It’s kinda hitting me in the feels. I’m an 80s/90s-genX-latchkey-kid, and right now this album is hitting me.

harsh3466,

Absolute banger. I love this song.

harsh3466,

There is a libreoffice docker image by linuxserver for self hosting/google docs replacement

What’s the best note-taking app currently out there?

Looking for a note-taking app, preferably that I could use straight from a browser. I’m currently using Standard Notes. Not sure if that one is any good, but E2EE and open-source which at least checks those boxes. I don’t store anything too sensitive and I don’t need a whole bunch of features, though I suppose I’d use...

harsh3466,

I also use Joplin, I self host Joplin server for the sync, with e2ee enabled. It’s been rock solid for me.

harsh3466,

I really like using Joplin Server. For awhile I was syncing through nextcloud, but in the end nextcloud didn’t really work for me so I switched my Joplin notes over.

harsh3466,

What an awesome idea. I’m here for it!

harsh3466,

Fucking love this song and video

harsh3466,

Excellent choice! For me, it’s Pearl Jam’s Jeremy

harsh3466,

I love that feeling. I’ve recently been learning about zfs as I add it to my server and make use of it in my setup. In doing so I had to utilize my container and data backups to migrate data from a single drive to my new zfs raidz array. I felt damn accomplished after doing so!

harsh3466,

🎶🎶 Been around the world and found that only stupid people are breeding 🎶🎶🎶

harsh3466,

I love this song

harsh3466,

I didn’t know this! I’m gonna go grab that torrent.

harsh3466,

+1 for Joplin. I self host Joplin server as well as use the app across my Mac and iOS devices and it’s great.

harsh3466,

I’ve had one go at Neuromancer and the language definitely made it a more difficult read for me. I want to read it again (I voted for it in the poll), and I think on my second go it’ll be more enjoyable.

harsh3466,

Ah. The dells. That whole place is a shit show.

harsh3466,

This pisses me off as well. All the advertising was/is “VPN! Privacy protected!” As if it’s that simple. All this fud about VPN feels like a combo of blowback from shitty advertising practices. When you combine that with government efforts to take away encryption, VPNs, and other privacy tools; what’s coming is gonna be a bleak panopticon.

harsh3466,

Is that real? I’ve seen the Ubuntu pro ad in the terminal, but never anything like this. (Not saying the Ubuntu pro ad is ok. I need to migrate my server)

harsh3466,

Yessssss!!

Also, I just ran across Descartes A Kant, and they’re fabulous. Got a great grungy Breeders vibe. I found em on Bandcamp.

harsh3466,

This is great! Thank you for sharing. Gonna go down a Polysics rabbit hole now!

Dedicated NAS or Nextcloud server for home lab?

I’m looking for suggestions. I have a rack in my office with up to 4U space available. I’m looking to set up a backup and storage solution to try and break free from services such as dropbox & google drive. I’d also love to run a few other things like homeassistant and potentially even Klipper for my 3d printer. I’d also...

harsh3466,

Scrapped nextcloud for the same reason. I was able to get it running the way I wanted, but goddam if nextcloud didn’t irrevocably break if you so much as cut a loud fart near the server.

Updating nextcloud was out of the question.

harsh3466,

I ran it with the nextcloud docker-compose, and it was flaky af. I know for lots of people it runs great, and I’m glad for that. For me, I had to scrap it.

harsh3466,

For what it’s worth, I just checked my docker-compose and when I was running it, I was using a separate mariadb container for the db.

harsh3466,

I don’t trust apple at all

harsh3466,

The tablet and mobile limitations really suck. I edit my photos on my iPad, (and privacy issues aside), I love the iPad for this, and don’t have any plans to abandon it.

I’d consider a pixel with graphene, but not until the phone I have dies/is unusable.
