If you use private dns if on android then no ads in sync. I just saw this post and noticed there were no ads in my sync app. Then I remembered that I am using private dns for blocking ads. I might switch it on for supporting the dev. Because non intrusive ads are fine for a great lemmy experience. Now I am having the same experience of sync when I use reddit.
Dev has to somehow pay their bills. And for continuous support they need some kind of reward for their time and effort. Eventually other apps will be moved to subscription or they will just stop updating. These apps will still run because of ad support or subscription. Ads are actually non intrusive.
I respect your opinion. For me it was super clunky. I tried every app for lemmy. The best one is sync for now. If there is a proper competition it will be boost for lemmy.
This is present in all apps in the playstore for serving ads. If you are running away from it you have to run from the entire internet. You want to live a life like the people in privacy sub reddit with that tin foil hat. For the developer to serve ads this is necessary.
Dude. There are different types of ads. Small ad banners which don’t affect normal posts is not an issue for me. I am getting a good experience so this is the way I am going to pay for it.
There are umpteen services that run on donations
A lot of them when the user base has grown, wasn’t sustainable and also got closed down and moved to subscription.
If any selection of the free content network I’m a part of isn’t showing me the content I want it’s an intrusion.
You can pay for subscription or use another app. It’s fine. Other devolopers who don’t charge a single bit now will change it in the future. Who is mad to support an app without getting any kind of benefit. There are some open-source developers who do that. Still.
Non reddit users who will open the reddit links for information will now stop looking at it. They won’t go through the pain of signing up. Ad revenue loses for the idiots.
When stupid decision are made here in my country, I think we are the biggest idiots in the world. But watching this kind of news shows that entire world is getting dumb.
I don’t go and search for apps in playstore. I try based on looking at some discussion threads, forums or word of mouth etc. Only if I think that would be useful to me I will download it. Otherwise I wouldn’t even download it for trying.
I haven’t stopped using reddit. But starting to use lemmy more on a daily basis as my page starts to show contents that I am interested in. Reddit will be also used along with it until it’s demise. Not planning again to move to a centralised system for reddit like experience. Lemmy is the place I am going to settle. I will encourage people to be here. Those other places like squabbles, tildes, discuit etc can go down anytime. There will be atleast some people here in lemmy, atleast the hardcore ones who support alternatives like lemmy. Because it is not in the control of one person or centralised authority.
I miss the rooting era before google safety net. I rely on a lot of banking apps and other stuffs that require safetynet. Even though they are tricks to hide root and bootloader status, it is pain in the ass. Fuck I can’t do whatever I want on my phone right now. If there was no safetynet my phone will be running pixel experience or lineage os.
I was up late last night and we know how that goes - rabbit holes. This time I was trying to find some ways to make my phone feel a little snappier and possibly eliminate the issue I was having where my recent apps button stops working until I restart the phone. It is present on my moto phones and were there on my Xiaomi phone. First thing I do is disable those services and apps. Adb method in Xiaomi phones. And disabling in moto phone.
I agree with that. But I believe that people should criticise and make fun of everything in the world to the point where people stop getting butt heart for anything and everything.
I get the idea of instances, like you can make your own and this is good for privacy. But some lemmy instances are much more popular and this in fact makes it another Reddit. If there are separate instances for niche topics, why not make it another community inside a larger instance?
Starting August 7th, advertisers that haven’t reached certain spending thresholds will lose their official brand account verification. I use firefox browser in android. Still waiting for sync for lemmy to have the old reddit like experience. The existing app somehow doesn’t feel like a good experience for me. I feel the browser ui is better than some apps I tried.
When using reddit we can access everything under one account. That is the point. If each instance need each account then there is no use. I should be able to open one account and access everything. If people are segregated into multiple instance and no connection between them then there is no use. Yeah if they are allowing posting of csam content etc then fine defederation is necessary.
I stopped using reddit when Apollo went down, and 2-3 hours of scrolling and active posting in some niche subs turned into ~30 mins of Lemmy per day, which I find much more healthy....
actually the last social media I have family members and relatives
The reason I quit Facebook was because of my relatives. They post bullshit conservative posts and stuffs and share it. Was fed up of seeing it on a daily basis. The moment these people enter Instagram I will be gone from it for good.
looks like rendering adblockers extensions obsolete with manifest-v3 was not enough so now they try to implement DRM into the browser giving the ability to any website to refuse traffic to you if you don’t run a complaint browser ( cough…firefox )...
I am pirating stuffs. They can’t stop me. No other websites can stop me. Piracy sites are not going to use DRM. Firefox + ublock is heaven. Using it even for browsing lemmy as I like the mobile interface better than apps available right now.
Most probably firefox will also bring this or they will lose market share further which is already pretty low.
Reddit should die. And people should come here. I want more instances and communities developing here. Right now I have to hope between reddit and here for some communities. Steve Huffman can go and suck dick.
