I only played a little F-Zero 99, but I also played Void Terrarium.

My Switch only showed my time with Super Mario Maker 2, which I left open for about an hour.

I think there's probably a minimum playtime needed for the Switch to count it.

I wish it were like Steams. It states the terms at the bottom of the page with the date range. Steam only counts Steam games. No Non-Steam, no offline. It also excludes games that are unreleased, in preload, prerelease or are disabled. I can't find that on the Switch year review

wolfshadowheart,
@wolfshadowheart@kbin.social avatar

I had 666 sessions this year lmao

wolfshadowheart,

That's why they decided to kill it, but people who were interested in it had some reason for hope.

On the PS3 it was basically a team death match with the mechanics of the game. That's all it needed to be and it was fun.

Now people get angry if the game doesn't have support with content updates for at least 3 years and if it's not monetized then there's no point for the publisher to do it (and the inclusion of it angers the players). It's rough.

However in the case of the PC version, I think it's for the best. If Sony wanted it to be profitable beyond the games price point, that means mtx. If there is development happening on mtx then it's budget not going into the development of the game, which considering the state of the game that did get released... Well...

I would disagree with your 50 hour Starfield assessment, only on the basis of Todd Howards own comment that the game was made to be played for a long time.

50 hours for a game meant to be played for a long time just isn't very long at all. Heck, I enjoyed my time in Starfield and I had more than 50 hours. However I could not continue with NG+, it was just godawful.

For a game meant to be played extensively it failed in most regards.

What I'm curious about is how is it a big open world MMO but also procedural? Isn't that by nature not easy to accomplish? For example, if there is a big city that exists (2, even). Is what's in between them what's procedural? So is there no consistency, landmark wise?

On top of the sheer size, where there's a lot of empty space between these cities. There's a lot of ways to travel which is always good, they even flashed 3 or 4 methods as they showed the sprawling landscape.

That aside, the game just kind of looks like Rust and RuneScape but with a "worldwide open world".

That's Arizona Sunshine 1. Great game still, but not a discount on the new game lol

Haha no worries! Honestly it's still worth picking up that game for that price alone, I genuinely feel that Arizona Sunshine is one of the far better FPS VR games!

We have seen 20 minutes of 'Dune II' with Villeneuve and we have good news: the expectation is more than justified (www.ruetir.com)

Last November we had the opportunity to attend an exclusive twenty-minute screening of ‘Dune: Part II’, the highly anticipated second installment of the monumental adaptation of Frank Herbert’s science fiction classic that Denis Villeneuve is carrying out. Of course, it is early to give an opinion, but we can assure that...

It was probably because I wasn't in the right "place" for it but I had a hard time with part 1 and couldn't finish it. However I've really been wanting to, I've wondered if part of it was knowing that there's a whole ending still to come.

It's funny, I usually finish movies through no matter what but recently there have been 3 movies that I just had to stop that hasn't happened in over 20 years. The first was Outcast, a foreign film with Nic Cage and Hayden Christiansen. My friend and I couldn't finish it.

The second was Dune, which was a very different feeling of why I couldn't finish it being mostly a length/focus/thought I was ready but wasn't. I wanted to be invested in it but I personally was unable to when I watched it.

The third was Avatar: Way of the Water where I got like 45 minutes in and just couldn't keep going because there felt like no reason to be invested in it. Unlike Dune, I won't be going back to finish this one I think

MicroSD case by M0les (www.thingiverse.com)

This is a fully re-modeled build of a MicroSD case inspired by Kozalakis's one, borrowing some ideas from Kroki's remix of it. I didn't actually use any of their source, rather building from scratch using SD/MicroSD card dimensions. This version relies on fairly close tolerances, so it may be a bit temperamental on some 3D...

wolfshadowheart,
@wolfshadowheart@kbin.social avatar

Very cute. I like the SD card adapter as the lid, lol.

I personally couldn't use this for my use case, but it's sooooo cute!

wolfshadowheart,

The 911 should have been, I remember doing the quest to get it and then hating the car lol.

The metros are exciting, I used a mod that put a system for it in the game and it was fun to use. Though, what I'm really looking for is the ability to ride as a passenger in cars any time!

wolfshadowheart,
@wolfshadowheart@kbin.social avatar

Honestly, I'm just impressed they got it running on Tegra. I remember my 1660 having issues with this game and honestly, sometimes I feel like my 3080 does too. That however is an issue with the game itself (scarecrow fear mist be broken)

wolfshadowheart,
@wolfshadowheart@kbin.social avatar

That is really strong. I knew it was only a matter of time before open poses got another step deeper but holy hell, this is genuinely insane.

It's not yet been published though, so no one can use it for now.

wolfshadowheart,
@wolfshadowheart@kbin.social avatar

The main thing I'm confused about is why they didn't include some of what they'd worked on for Payday 2. Like, it has a genuinely decent VR but it's just not present (I guess they've "hinted" at it).

I also enjoyed the game on release, I had very few bugs and the ones I did encounter I was able to work around in various ways. The most memorable one was a bug where killing the enemies would prevent the next objective from being scannable, preventing it from continuing and completion. Everything else was pretty minimal and I was able to 100% the game. Post game I spent modding which I also got a lot of enjoyment out of a little over 200 hours total in the game.

Haven't been able to get to Phantom Liberty yet, and I haven't started a new playthrough for the update be has I'm attached to my save (which is silly lol). I'll get to it.

I feel you on the lack of compelling FPS games these days though. Like Dishonored, but with guns!

wolfshadowheart,
@wolfshadowheart@kbin.social avatar

It's a fun game. Part of its strength is the freedom it gives the players, I was playing with friends last night and we were having a blast. It's that mix of Phasmophobia fear and fun exploring.

I personally am not as big of fan of open random lobbies which is why I don't continue to play Phasma or likely this game, but they are great with friends. Excited for a VR version if they can make it work :)

I feel like selling it internationally is your best bet. Find someone in Australia and sell it to them for fair shipping.

Selling it locally is just going to make you tear your hair out. You're trying to sell a popular device that has just had a refresh and a fair sale, outside of Facebook Marketplace or somewhere where a buyer is, quite frankly, not knowledgeable, I feel like your chances are just very slim.

On the other hand, Australian's are looking at ~$1,200 AUD for a "new" high model that someone else bought and supposedly didn't use.

You'd be doing the Steam Deck community a favor by selling it to an enthusiast without charging them extra just because they're down under.

wolfshadowheart,
@wolfshadowheart@kbin.social avatar

Yeah but so what? They can also go as low as $15 so it'll just depend on the package size. I mean frankly, they are the ones who need it most and OP is clearly in a position where they are able to take some kind of L trying to sell it.

May as well be a good guy and pay it forward. Few around the states would be likely to buy it when the availability from official sources are just simpler and safer.

Besides, I bought a guitar from eBay from AUS. If they can charge me only $217 after shipping and the guitar itself, then a Steam Deck can get a nice price too ;)

I can't speak to what you're looking for specifically, however I can give you an idea of the level and type of noise you could expect.

With a local server I built with 3 standard 8TB HDDs, the "noisiest" part of the whole computer is the fans itself - it's very quiet compared to say, a fanned air purifier on full or maybe even half power. I've never actually heard my hard drives from any of the computers I've built in the last 6-8 years, and I'm usually right by them. If I listen very closely I may hear some ticking/spinning if they happen to be ramped up.

So under load, there may be a chance of hearing some of the spinning disks in a quiet room, however I haven't actively heard an HDD since 2012 - though the size you're going for could be different as you mentioned. I can't speak for the 18tb sizes. As for the smaller external HDD's, I have 3 6TB ones running in tandem and it's pretty much the same, I've heard them ramp up slightly but it's nearly silent even under load it's more of a gentle hum. If there were any noise sources like music it would be unnoticeable. But again, the size may play a factor.

You mentioned it's right by your bed but would your active hours align with the backups? I.e. if you run them overnight from 2a to 8a, you'd already be asleep for the backup. If it's noise that prevents you from sleeping that may help.

GTA 6’s Publisher Says Video Games Should Theoretically Be Priced At Dollars Per Hour (www.forbes.com)

While Take-Two is riding high on their announcement that a GTA 6 trailer is coming, its CEO has some…interesting ideas on how much video games could cost, part of a contingent of executives that believe games are underpriced, given their cost, length or some combination of the two.

wolfshadowheart,
@wolfshadowheart@kbin.social avatar

It definitely should not. Gamers use it because there are a range of genres of game. JRPG's ala Monster Hunter and Disgaea are pretty much a 300 hour minimum. There is no way GTA ever produces something worth 300 hours of gameplay, the closest they've gotten is their Online versions which frankly, would be horrible if they were priced per hour.

Racing games would have very little merit in price per hour. Sports games probably in between.

Then there's the whole fact that pacing can be implemented at the whims of the creators. It takes 4 hours to get energy so you can continue? Well, that 4 hours of paid playtime baybee, payyup!

How about games with little to no story? Should the new CoD only be $25 because it's campaign sucks? It's short after all. Or will they try and include multiplayer time, you know, something independent and timeless. Will they become arcades and start charging you per round?

Horrible, horrible idea. No matter hour you look at it, hours per game are only good for gamers with specific intentions, be it their limited time, their desire to 100%, or to see if it simply respects their time in the first place.

wolfshadowheart,
@wolfshadowheart@kbin.social avatar

Does this include music?

It's 40% which is sizeable enough to likely be able to have influence.

Also, the fact that tencent has to go through the CCP for approval, which means that anything problematic to the government. If anyone recalls what happened between Blizzard and NetEase, basically China's version of WoW has been put on hiatus indefinitely. It happens with movies annually.

Given that the CCP has attempted, and often times succeeded, to push their impositions on media coming from other countries. It's not that far fetched to have some concerns about the insanely deep tendrils of Tencents reach, especially given how studios often write with censors in mind. - note that I don't agree with the entirety of the discussion I linked, but I do think it has some interesting points regarding the process and lasting effects. For someone to be blacklisted for having a relationship (within reason of course) is wrong and moreover, inhibits the entirety of the creative process for anyone who wants to be involved in it. In the case of the article, Richard Gere was effectively blacklisted for being the wrong kind of Buddhist. Not to mention the litany of erasures the CCP would love to have swept under the rug.

Tencent wants to make money, they are going to invest in potential money making endeavors. It would be silly for anyone to turn away investment unless it comes with strings attached.

Capitalists feel the same way, but the string attached is giving up your creative will for market reach. Is the loss of profits from that market worth undercutting your creative work? Well, if you want it to do well in China then you will, but that requires the CCP's approval...

I think that's the important difference in regards to Tencents involvement with Epic. It's not just that Epic is buying out games and making them exclusive, which just happens to be the exact same tactic Tencent uses with Hollywood with China's market share, but that being the very path that's used to stifle creativity under the proper image the CCP wants to present.

Epic made this deal with all of this knowledge, and frankly I would be extremely surprised if 40% didn't net Tencent influence. I'd be even more surprised if that were even an option on the offer.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not faulting Epic for making money (although I guess officially they aren't...) because even Valve releases a version of Steam with its games for China. I'm faulting them for being more complicit than most with how they've dealt with the whole situation. That in addition to the actually insane takes that Tim Sweeny holds, I just can't see Tencents involvement as a little issue mostly nothing. It seems pretty clear that Epic is trying to get younger gamers on its platform, and rather than serve features and innovation they push exclusivity and incite arguments against competition.

Tl;Dr They do (invest), it does (allow influence), and it will (come with strings attached)

This season of Loki has been "technically" fine but... each episode amounts to nothing. It's just barely not boring for my friend and I.

Honestly, I preferred Ms. Marvel more than this, since it actually had direction and seems to try to make some kind of point. Right now, Loki S2 just seems like it's scrambling. I feel kind of wild seeing so much praise for it online - again, it's not bad but that doesn't mean that it therefore is good.
