Kia is holding imported cars on locked compounds, rather than sell or deliver them. (www.cbc.ca)

“New Kia cars are not being released to Ontario dealerships — and reportedly many more across the country — to sell. Instead, they’re being stored on this compound, 30 kilometres south of Kitchener, Ont. and allegedly on other similar compounds across Canada.”

espentan,

It takes time to get shit build quality just the right amount of terrible.

espentan,

The US already has a presence in many locations in Scandinavia/The Nordics. Depending on what one considers to be a base, as many as 36.

In total, Norway, Sweden, and Finland have opened 36 military bases for US forces and weapons. The agreements are bilateral, i.e., between the US and the individual country, and not a NATO agreement.

But yeah, more will undoubtedly not make Putin any happier.

Source.

espentan,

It feels like it’s always the EU picking up the ball on these things. Aren’t there mechanisms in place to monitor these things in the US, or is it legislation (or lack of it) that prevents the government from going after such things?

espentan,

Personally, I’d love to see a Dick Butt made from clay. Preferably with an inscription reading “the internet made me do it”.

espentan,

The first picture in this comment convinced me; can’t disappoint a face like that.

espentan,

That face says “are you happy now?!”

espentan,

Impossible not to love this little fella, he gets my vote.

espentan,

They were mining for a roadway. /s

espentan,

Don’t look so surprised, you’re a good lookin’ fella!

espentan,

I like it, without both straw and Heathcliff. Just two cows sharing random shower thoughts.

I met a mad man in Paris the other day, fumbling around in the river, he was in Seine.

My friend just couldn’t believe he was in a river, he was in the Nile.

espentan,

This one would be a bit sad/mysterious/ominous without Heathcliff.

espentan,

I appreciate the ability to comment on a specific photo, so if I had to choose I’d go with broken up posts.

espentan,

Why do you think you space out? It doesn’t happen to me often, but when it does it’s usually because my surroundings aren’t very interesting, and my own train of thought is far more engaging. Or maybe I’m exhausted and don’t have the energy to stay engaged.

espentan,

Uff, I watched Threads just as there was a “no to nuclear weapons” campaign going on in Norway (1986’ish), so the threat of nuclear war felt very real, to 12 year old me. So yeah, that movie left a mark.

espentan,

Nice to hear there’s still a good amount of sensible people out there, and that some of them are even in law enforcement.

espentan,

A couple of decades ago I worked with an ex-mormon. Shunned by his family, his sister would still call to wish him merry Christmas etc… I remember overhearing one of those calls; “merry Christmas sis, and tell mom and dad I’m very glad I’m not there”.

espentan,

What a handsome guy.

espentan,

I feared I might’ve been on thin ice assuming it was a he.

Thanks for the additional info, very interesting :)

Russian journalist who staged TV war protest handed 8 1/2 year jail term in absentia (www.reuters.com)

Marina Ovsyannikova, who burst into a news broadcast with a placard that read “Stop the war” and “They’re lying to you”, was found guilty of “spreading knowingly false information about the Russian Armed Forces”. The 45-year old fled Russia with her daughter for an unspecified European country a year ago, according...

espentan,

I’m sure the streets are flooded by people objecting to the harshness of the sentence. /s

espentan,

FM was switched off in 2017 (Norway), but a DAB chip would’ve been nice.

espentan,

My mom’s probably wondering if it’ll take 40 year olds.

Japan’s birthrate was apparently at its lowest ever last year but that still meant 800k babies, so there might be a few dropping by the hatch.

espentan,

I like how it was in use recently enough to apparently have received a plastic seat/lid.

espentan,

Is that a Mayan pyramid in the distance?

espentan,

Are you in a Brazilian prison, and your teacher a guard?

espentan,

That’s intermediate level. I’ve been sleeping naked for 30 years.

espentan,

You could make the argument that absolutely anything sent over there aids their war effort. Even a pack of TP is one less thing they need to make themselves, and in turn frees up resources that can be put to use in more sinister areas.

espentan,

It’s probably just an attempt to not alienate people who have no idea what a CNC machine is. I’m sure there are lots of people who have no idea how things are made and what tools play a part.

I agree, though, I would’ve educated my readers on how ubiquitous such a machine is in manufacturing, rather than dumbing it down and making it sound like Germany is shipping rare weapon-building machines to Russia.

espentan,

It really isn’t. In Norway it’s 49 weeks, divided between mother and father, with the majority going to the mother.

espentan,

Du hast mich gefragt und ich hab nichts gesaaagt!

espentan,

I would’ve guessed the Norwegian/Swedish border. Different longitude.

“You guys… eh… you guys going camping? HEHEHEEHEEHEHE”.

I had a conversation with ChatGPT on that subject. It could not stress enough how terrible it would be for the duck if I brought it home with me, and that was despite me informing the AI that the duck in question was special, that it could talk and had specifically requested to come home with me.

Atheists, is there anything religious that sticks with you to this day?

I am Ganesh, an Indian atheist and I don’t eat beef. It’s not like that I have a religious reason to do that, but after all those years seeing cows as peaceful animals and playing and growing up with them in a village, I doubt if I ever will be able to eat beef. I wasn’t raised very religious, I didn’t go to temple...

espentan,

In Norway I use either Prosit, or the German word Gesundheit, for that courtesy.

espentan,

Equally transparent yet less conspicuous.

espentan,

Exactly, I doubt you can sail a Panamax through that. Useless. /s

espentan,

Why am I sick, doctor?

Because you’re sick!

espentan,

Perhaps the perfect opportunity to stop buying Apple products?

espentan,

I did. Haven’t visited reddit since Sync stopped working. Should probably drop by and delete my account.

The Second Front (en.desk-russie.eu) Ukrainian

According to historian Françoise Thom, Russia has not renounced its original plan to install a pro-Russian government in Kyiv. In pursuit of this goal, not only Ukrainian people are the target of an operation of psychological war, but decision-makers circles in Washington and European capitals are being infiltrated and...

564 days after initiating a two week special military operation: “yeap, the original plan is still on!”

espentan,

I can’t recall the last time I traveled with checked luggage. It has its disadvantages, for sure, but flying is a terrible enough experience without having to stand in line waiting to check luggage, and then standing around waiting for it to (maybe) appear on a conveyor belt.

espentan,

He, I suppose that’s obvious :)

Their members feel like boys the size of men, incapable of realizing that the public view them as a moronic nuisance, and not cool or tough.
