mini HDMI

The worst connector ever made. Possibly just broke.

Get a mini to normal hdmi cord if you’re not already using one and test the camera output on a TV or monitor

Shigley’s Mechanical Engineering Design 10th edition

Sigh… kind of wish it wasn’t.

I agree that its a fantastic resource. But the only times that book gets opened is when I’m about to make my brain hurt bigly and it makes me regret choosing mechanical eng just a liiiiiitle bit.

Direct Downloads always lead to "check internet connection"

This is something I’m noticing in the ROM space, especially for non-retro titles like WiiU titles. The file sizes are often very massive, between 5 and 20 GB. Downloading from these places, especially the internet archive has a download speed of maybe 500 megabytes per hour. It’s quite slow compared to torrents, but when it...

This is why internet download manager (and other, similar download manager softwares) were originally created. Download managers track the amount of a file you’ve downloaded and will repeatedly retry when interrupted without restarting from zero.

Getting Warez in the pre-P2P era meant grabbing bits and pieces over a glacial ISDN or 33.6k modem line (if you were lucky- some of us bastards got 28.8k, or even 14.4k…) Everything was “direct download”. You had to use a download manager for anything larger than 30 megabytes because the chances of your line being interrupted were very very high, either by other phone users or by your ISP booting you off because you looked like a zombie modem being connected for 24 hours straight.

They still have their place. Try something open source like JDownloader. Or just pirate the pro version of IDM.

So, Unity is charging game developers per video game install now... (blog.unity.com)

So today Unity announced changes in how they are going to monetize their game engine, and it is, rightfully might I add, poorly recievedHere is how much youtuber Dani would have to pay unity if they consider his games to gain over $200k in revenue Dani’s hypothetical unity payments...

Cracking often includes blocking all networking features of a game to kill any phone-home license checking, so it’s likely that Unity will not know cracked games are getting installed. But it is not guaranteed.

More likely every game dev save for a few big developers (who we don’t give a shit about) is going to drop this radioactive business model like a hot plutonium potato and it will become a non-issue.

No, I meant the squatty potty people end up popping all over the place to mention how good they are. There was a lot of it on Reddit especially, back when they were new.

My experience with my Ryzen 7900x has been no problems. The motherboard (ASRock PG Riptide B650E) had some issues on first boot that just required a BIOS update to fix. But I’ve had no problems dualbooting Windows and MX Linux on my system. With the caveat that you must use a cutting-edge distro with a 6.x kernel or better for proper hardware support on latest gen stuff.

CPU’s are pretty agnostic this gen. Both Intel and AMD have comparable performance. AMD a little better in games, Intel a little better in productivity- but only by a few percent. AMD wins in power efficiency by quite a bit too, with the downside of requiring a DDR5 early-adopter tax for AM5 making the buy in a little more expensive. So it’s really a wash no matter who you choose.

@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

Yes, PLA creeps ridiculously fast in hot conditions it is unsuitable for use in any environment over 35C tbh.

PETG is better but will still warp/fade over time if it’s exposed to the sun, and likely need replacing.

You need to be printing in ABS or ideally ASA if you want all-weather resistant cases. Which means now your printer needs an enclosure and ventilation…

empireOfLove,
@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

Yeah ABS is super finicky to print, a temp controlled enclosure is mandatory and you often need perfectly prepped full adhesive plates with large print brims. But it’s definitely the only true weather-tolerant plastic if you can get it to behave.

empireOfLove,
@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

It can survive fine when under no load. It probably fades color less than abs does actually. However When experiencing any kind of mechanical load - say, a tablet squeezing at the edges for a friction fit - it fails rapidly at elevated temperatures.

empireOfLove,
@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

It depends heavily on your printing base. If you have a plate you can glue/put ABS slurry to, you’ll have enough adhesion that peeling is very unlikely to happen without an enclosure. If you’re trying to print directly onto a textured or PEI sheet without an enclosure, it’s gonna probably mess up.

empireOfLove,
@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

Yes, ASA is a more stable plastic overall. They both have issues with requiring ventilated enclosures tho.

empireOfLove,
@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

That’s exactly how I know. Made some very nice interior car parts and experimented with the 3 plastics. PLA failed in a day, PETG made it a week before it sagged too much to be usable, but ABS is still going.

empireOfLove,
@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

ahhh, TPU is addictive isn’t it. So squishy and flexy. I’ve even made gaskets out of it for an ATV- not good ones, because it fails to seal when too cold, but gaskets that still work nonetheless.

@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

Translation: “fuck we got caught manipulating our site again. I’m going to tell them to be more careful”

empireOfLove,

Oh look, the old reddit experience begins to degrade despite them always saying “it’s not going anywhere”… how absolutely unexpected.

empireOfLove,
@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

It’s honestly baffling how inefficient the entire vanilla engine is. They’ve fixed up the lighting engine in 1.20 at the very least,so that annoyance is gone, but still… the fact that a few part time freelance devs can whoop mojang’s ass (who pays like 100 developers for java) in every other optimization category is just baffling. What the fuck does mojang pay all those people to do on java? It took them a decade to fix the clusterfuck of an inefficient lighting engine.

empireOfLove,
@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

They just like me fr fr

empireOfLove,
@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

They still happily exist on YouTube- for now. So no point in re-hosting, they’ll get squirreled away into the Giant Hard Drive of Doom.

If something happens to the actual archive project in the near future, I’ll likely section them up into 20gb pieces and post them out on a torrent someplace.

empireOfLove,
@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

What are what for? The downloaded videos?

I just didn’t want this cool piece of history to dissappear from the public eye because of corporate retards. probably won’t ever watch more than 1% of them.

empireOfLove,
@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

And mind you, they have a high number of videos but most are short clips and all of them are low res, 360p or 480p max. Any other channel uploading HD or 4k content will be orders of magnitudes larger for fewer videos.

empireOfLove,
@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

Yep. Those two and --write-thumbnail

empireOfLove,
@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

Find what? The channel, or the tool?

empireOfLove,
@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

Nah. IA doesn’t need to deal with this volume of shit and they already have enough of a hard time dealing with copyright trolls.

If this channel is impacted in the future, I’ll probably put out a few torrents with the videos and post them here.

empireOfLove,
@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

Me too. There’s a couple channels I’ve downloaded in their entirety, but they’re nothing like the size of this one.

empireOfLove,
@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

I think I do have the subs tag in my default config, but almost none of their videos have any.

empireOfLove,
@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

Yeah, the yt-dlp fork is still actively maintained and has very nice results, glad you found it.

empireOfLove, (edited )
@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

And mind you, the reason trolls were uploading that shit is because all of their alt-right propaganda calling trans people pedos was getting taken down and ridiculed by the community, which they got mad about. Funny how they were the ones in possession of CP…

empireOfLove,
@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

I know it’s a mess mate, but let’s just go down to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for this all to blow over.

They did sort of use CO2/CO in the earlier days, in the form of poorly maintained van trucks that would drive around the camps with their exhaust piped directly into the back of the van. That was slow and inefficient though, as the truck had to run long enough to actively displace all the oxygen within the volume of the van.

Zyklon B from its Wikipedia page was intended as a pesticide so there was already a large industrial supply lying around. It works on a cellular level and will cause widespread cell death within 2 minutes of inhalation at extremely low concentrations, making it ultimately much faster with less maintenance.

I’m not a historical expert, but the deaths caused by Zyklon B are also described to be much, much more violent than simply passing out from oxygen deprivation- and I could posit that the Nazis, viewing jews et al. as not human, would have preferred such a death for them.

It’s beating the pants off of Nvidia’s offerings in everything but RT (which is expected), beats Nvidia on price, and doesn’t require sticky proprietary drivers on Linux. I think AMD has a huge winner on their hands this generation.

I installed the official Reddit app and went on it to see what the old place was looking like now. My inbox was filled with spam. The “home feed” shows subs I never subscribed to. There are so many ads. Between the ads and the the extra subs in the feed, it’s hard to just scroll. I also noted a lot of spam in some of the...
