All jokes aside, most desktop apps and web browsers, nowadays, use ungodly amounts of RAM. The pessimist in me blames Chrome and electron, but in reality it just comes down to programmers being more accustom to having access to more memory than they need.
I say relax and enjoy the lack of slowdowns - having too much RAM is not a problem, but having too little is. Your only concern should ever be trying to avoid the latter, and with 32gb of RAM you should be good until the next big Discord update. (slight /s on that last point)
I enjoyed most of the characters, especially the relationship between the dwarf prince and the elf smith! (been a bit since I’ve seen the show, forgive me for not remembering the names).
I really enjoyed the numenor segments, and anything involving the orcs and their tunnels. Also loved the hooded figure mystery.
I disliked most of the developments relating to Numenor not recognizing a threat and the Harfoots being scared of outsiders; I find xenophobia in media to be kind of a crutch that can be used to excuse lazy storytelling and creating unnecessary conflict, and these developments were no exception.
But, yeah, overall I found the show to be fun and entertaining, and I enjoyed most of the characters. And, yes, this also includes the warrior elf who many disliked. Without spoiling things, I think the actor fit that role very well.
I would give it a 7.5 out of 10, I very much enjoyed watching it and would gladly watch a sequel.
Love how this new series feels exactly like Zero Punctuation, but with better music and a new paint job - feels like a solid refinement of the original!
Quite a few people were playing solo to be able to work out the heists, on day one - allocating an entire server slot for solo games because of the forced always on multiplayer is ridiculous (and probably contributed to the server problems more than needed).
Barely. I played a few levels with it, but the FSR settings you had to use to have the game function at an acceptable framerate left things looking blocky and shitty.
I hope they do something to get it working, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
I mean, makes sense to me. You’re storing your data on someone else’s servers, makes sense that it would count towards your storage quota on said servers.
Having said that, it’s really shitty that they’ve removed local backups (and that they don’t allow other third party services beyond Google Drive and Apple iCloud).
Another reason to not use WhatsApp (or to use another backup solution), I guess.
It’s not a technical issue, changing a spawn point on an editor is usually simple enough.
The issue is most likely that the map’s core design was around a certain set of spawn points which, most likely because of inadequate time for testing (remember how short the period was between this title and the previous in the series), needs to now be adjusted.
The latency is so low I don’t notice it at all. Weird that you’re having problems.
My ps5 is hooked up to the router via an ethernet cable, and I use a 5 Ghz network to play on. Never had any issues and never required any tweaking (played most of Jedi: Survivor with this setup).
I just plugged the steam deck in to a monitor and while I was transferring some roms and started to wonder if it would be feasible to use as a day to day computer while docked.
My SSD died a while back, but my laptop was still under warranty so I sent it in for a free replacement. In that period I used my steam deck as my main machine (with a dock hooked up to my usual work station) and it was all very pleasant.
Took a bit to get fully set up, but once you’re up and running the machine is a dream.
Is that satire? Wayland is pretty great, and there isn’t really a concept of “compatible app” as Xwayland handles that.
Obviously apps that perform X functions directly (clipboard managers, screen recorders, etc.) will need to be ported or rewritten, as it’s a brand new display manager, but that would be the case with any non-X platform.
Yeah, as mentioned earlier: that is an application that directly works with X to interact with the mouse cursor. It needs to be updated or rewritten. No alternative to that, I’m afraid.
I think the last point is the most important: Netanyahu is so responsible for all of this that I think his rhetoric around a “second war of independence” is all designed around distracting people.
I mean, for fuck’s sake, last March we were all talking about how he and his party were trying to do away with government oversight so he could get out of criminal corruption probes.
This guy is literally using the people of Israel and Palestine for his own gains. Hamas literally exists because of him.
Squadron 42 is the single player campaign of Star Citizen, that is supposed to launch as a separate game. It's basically a small portion of Star Citizen, but with a story and ending. I'm still not confident; waited too long for that.
I still remember being in college and hearing people in the lab next to me excitedly proclaim that they were able to pay $100 for a rare ship that has X Y Z features including handling, top speed, and fashionable interiors.
They weren’t able to use the ship yet, but oh man was it a great investment for when they’d one day be able to ride them.
So fucking bizarre. But, if you have people out there thinking like my then peers, you’re guaranteed to have a long term stream of income based on loose promises alone.
I’m currently looking for another controller for the deck. Reddit threads and some articles usually mention Dualsense, Dualshock4, 8bitdo Ultimate and XBox controllers....
Really just repackaged Proton, with some ridiculous install requirements including fucking Homebrew.
It’s not even Alpha level software right now. But, just to argue their side: it is meant as a preview for game developers to package their games with right now, and not the general public.
I guess I don’t really like the idea of a large company using a tool like Homebrew, I feel at that point they should write/include their own package manager.
I might be sounding pedantic, so feel free to ignore me if you’re a Homebrew fan, but it just irks me that the package manager is installed via curl’ing a shell script from their github project, and that the entire repo itself is stored on Github.
Even Microsoft has winget; dunno why a company the size of Apple can’t just roll a proper, secure way to distribute packages.
Also, as far as other package managers go, there’s Macports.
Looks nice - I’m happy the Android verse is finally getting tablets that can compete with the iPad (and I don’t consider Samsung and its trash a competitor - unless you live in Korea)
Exact opposite for me - I significantly prefer Android apps.
I’ve had a few iPad minis over the years, as none of the similar form factor Android devices seemed all right to me - so I might get this OnePlus tablet.
Though, I am biased: I still love my old OnePlus 5 from 2016 😅
“There is not a native app on Steam deck today,” said Andrew Fear, GFN boss, back in January. “Use a Chromium browser to make it work. GeForce Now is a cloud streaming service - meaning the games run on Nvidia machines with all settings maxed out, and you get the output. It’s great if you:
live close to an Nvidia data center and pay for the service
prefer 60 fps with all settings on high to 30 fps with all settings on low
want to play games that aren’t supported on the deck
want to save space by not installing certain large games
want to save battery
You doing a completely separate thing and that being “good enough for you” would be like me asking for a recipe for apple pie and you responding with “well I went to McDonald’s the other day and ate a pie and it was swell”.
That’s not what we’re talking about, it doesn’t help the original poster, and your experience contributes nothing to the overall discussion.
Edit: Removed some text that served no purpose other than being nasty to the above commenter. Apologies.
However, if that’s the case then I would encourage you to at least edit your above comment to indicate what you’ve learned - as it stands right now it still implies the discussion is about local streaming/Gamestream.
Let’s not forget how the bounty hunter missions were completely broken, to the point that you couldn’t even start the quest line at any point in the game. I beat the whole game wondering “what the fuck is that big area in the pause menu that’s still locked?”
Also, you still can’t unlock the third garden on Pyloon’s roof in some saves (mainly mine).
I couldn’t give less of a shit about performance bugs, but the fact that core content in the game is still locked because of fucking trigger bugs is mind bogglingly embarrassing.
Still loved the game, though - my favorite game of 2023 (not saying it was the best of 2023, I just really liked this one).

Element X implements most of the client side stuff mentioned above, but it doesn’t depend on a specific room version: instead, your homeserver must implement/run an additional service (a “sliding sync” proxy, a special binary written in Go that is deployed alongside Synapse) and then advertise that service’s existence.
If it does the latter, Element X will know where to connect and will function.
Note that this is only temporary so that people can make use of Sync V3 before it officially lands in Synapse. And it, technically, isn’t synapse exclusive either, as it’s its own thing.
Yeah, my home server has been running for more than a few years, and has been in a few large rooms - it’s gotten to the point that connecting takes upwards to a minute on the old client.
With Element X it takes around 3 to 4 seconds, regardless of room size. It’s delicious.
As a normal, boring user that does nothing special other than browse the internet and the occasional "casual coding" -- what am I supposed to do with 32GiB of ram?
Title. Besides setting tmpfs to use 10GiB of it to store downloads.
