I don’t think it’s about the Joneses for me, I just enjoy the luxury of having a newer phone. The ability to brag only lasts the first year or less and that’s certainly not worth $800 by itself

A lot of people completely miss the point of edgy comedy and take it at face value, so that makes him an easy target for clickbait and outrage. Since overly sensitive people out there allow comedians to hurt their feelings that makes him a bad man.
I think this punching up/punching down stuff is meaningless because he’s not trying to punch anyone, nor are trans people the only people “punched down on”, a.k.a. joked about, by edgy comedians on a regular basis.

I think you’re exactly right on that. All the opposition to change is in favor of keeping language as efficient as possible. The smoothest way to get everyone on board with neutral language is to use a term that’s both familiar and efficient. If our generic words are masculine, then we can just redefine them as neutral. Some claim this means “women are now men” but long-term it really means “old generic word no longer applies to only men”

I also think when someone as famous and talented as him gets cancelled, it’s arguably the fans who get the worst of it. He’s still a multimillionaire selling out shows but I can’t let anyone know I think he’s the funniest man alive without judgement. It’s so backwards because we the fans didn’t commit his crimes but we’re paying for them because we still have taste for what’s funny.
