I haven’t thought of this in years but back in the '90s I participated in an email fantasy RPG where we all roleplayed Romulans. One person would write a chapter from their character’s POV and email it to the group, then the next person does one, and so on, so the story unfolded in unexpected ways. It was actually pretty fun.

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

It was. And then of course this one guy asked me if I wanted to take it private so our characters could have their own little love subplot. And uh… I said yes.

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

It’s called …ahem… subverting expectations.

Dorfromantik – so relaxing! Planning to try to finish a couple other games (Guardians of the Galaxy, Far Cry 6) over the winter break too, and maybe start new ones (RDR).

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

I know I was waiting for the splooge part too.

Shadow on the carpet is a nice touch.

A friend of mine was in San Diego on business where her company put her up in a swanky hotel. I drove down from LA to meet her. I had some bills that were due so I brought them with me, wrote my checks (this was before online bill pay), stamped my envelopes, and asked the front desk to please include them with their outgoing mail.

For those who haven’t figured it out, that’s what Andy Dufresne did at the bank in Shawshank Redemption.

Lucky for me, they were nice about it and they actually did mail my letters for me, but I still cringe when I think about it today.

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

I guess I just felt weird after thinking about it because I wasn’t some guy in a fancy suit closing out a huge bank account and asking to mail a package in a Manila envelope, but just a 20-something girl in jeans and a tank top mailing out utility bills that were almost overdue. Probably just my own insecurities at the time.

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

It will go with that woman and cat meme done in traditional Asian style.

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

Shawshank Redemption, The Birdcage, and The Fifth Element are my 3 favorite movies that I will always actively watch when they’re on, even if I own all three.

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

My husband and I stood in line to watch each movie twice in the theater when they came out. And we’ve watched it all through on DVD multiple times.

We do have interests and hobbies that don’t jive but LOTR is definitely one we share.

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

One part that always makes us laugh is after “Fly, you fools” when there’s no spoken audio but you can see/hear Pippin in slowmo going “Frew-dew.”

We used to go regularly to this sushi place and had gotten to know the chef pretty well. It was a semi-fancy place with a sushi bar and hibachi section. Really good cuts of sashimi. He said his favorite thing to eat is McDonald’s.

Ooh, this sounds like a game-changer.

What opened your eyes to what's happening in Palestine?

We’re a group of activists in a Western country where most have been brought up with either “Israel = good, Hamas = bad” or “It’s a sad, but unsolvable conflict between two equal sides”. The media heavily skewed to the Israeli perspective, and our politicians want to condemn protests in support of Palestinians....

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

two different Israeli tourists told me that Palestinians were animals

One of the local businesses I frequent is owned by an Israeli man and he was telling me they all deserve to die, all of them, men, women, and children. He believes the world needs to be rid of all Palestinians.

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

“Lay down” when they mean “lie down.” Also “could care less.”

I can’t believe how easy it is to get a forklift certification. All online, never have to touch an actual forklift.

I don’t know if that’s common knowledge, but I just found out because I went through the process myself to get certified.

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

I’m in Illinois. After the online stuff, they sent me a certificate which has a signature line for someone at whatever company hires me, to be signed after they train me on the specific truck they have.

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

I’m a casual gamer and I used to play Overwatch. There’s always the practice range or training room, I forget what it’s called. But what really got me learning all the characters was playing Mystery Heroes over and over.

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

I’ve been trying to play Guardians of the Galaxy but have been too busy with work and school since September. I only recently saw the movie based on a friend’s recommendation, and I loved it. Thought it would make a fun RPG, and sure enough there was already one, and it was on sale when I looked so I snagged it. Maybe I’ll finish it someday.

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

Why are you braking?! I find myself asking that out loud at the driver in front of me too many times. Sometimes I see drivers in other lanes doing it too. It’s as if they were driving a runaway vehicle that accelerates on its own.

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

And all those little saliva smacking noises in their mouths.

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

Same for me but the reason for audiobooks is that I can still be productive while listening to it, like do chores or exercise, whereas a physical book would be a reading-only activity (I can’t exercise and read due to motion sickness).

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

Yeah, what is up with the trend of dark boxy eyebrows making the woman look like Uncle Leo from Seinfeld?

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

He did mostly artwork in sepia tones but occasionally would drink up on green juice for some verdant pieces.

Whenever I have that thought, usually when I see my cat rolling around on the floor just loving life, I always end up with the follow-up thought that I would have to lick my own butthole to clean it.

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

Many have suggested reading. Another option is listening to audiobooks while you do something else like walk/jog, do chores, garden, etc.

The Stand audiobook (Stephen King) narrated by Grover Gardner is really good, and so is The Expanse series narrated by Jefferson Mays if you enjoy sci-fi.

@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

Somewhat related… I work at a garden center and my manager is a professor of horticulture. When I transferred to her department, I thought I would be learning so much, but this woman has no passion for teaching and is cynical about everything. She sucks the life and fun out of work. Luckily I enjoy working with my other coworkers, and everybody likes me better than they do her.

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

Bit of an update… 3 out of 4 of us employed under her are planning to quit after the new year. We’re just finishing the holiday season because it’s a busy time and don’t want to bail when it’s all hands on deck right now.

The 4th person is only part-time and we haven’t told him yet about our plans, so he may join us once he finds out.

All of us are quitting because of the manager.

I love the original intro to Enterprise. Is that the one you meant? They changed it to be more “upbeat” or something at some point and I didn’t like that version.

Kim Kardashian’s next trick? A bra to make you look turned on by absolutely everything (www.theguardian.com)

Highlights: The new bra in Kim Kardashian’s lingerie range, with its “daring” raised nipple detail, goes on sale on Halloween, but not, I think, because the effect she’s going for is “scary”. The sales pitch is “No matter how hot it is, you will always look cold”, but I’m not sure “cold” is the look she’s...

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

I once went to work with no bra after recently getting a tattoo on my back and trying to let it heal. I wore 3 layers, including a thick fleece vest, and you could still see my nipples through it all. Ended up going home and putting a bra on. :|

You’re such a good boy, Jack!

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

This whole thread is making me want to listen to the audiobooks all over again.

Depends on my mood that day. If I’m angry-running, it’s rock/metal. If I’m happy-running, it’s pop/hip-hop/R&B. On rare occasions, I run while contemplating a dilemma and may listen to LoFi/chill instrumental music.

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

I love this. Customizable font, type size, and cover too.

I’ve been using a saline spray daily for years, just the generic store brand, and haven’t noticed excessive dryness. But I do remember when I tried Nasonex that it made my nose bleed.

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

I just use it every night after I shower before bed. Supposed to use it in the morning too but I skip that.

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

Maybe a nice cake for dessert too, with an extra dollop of fear.

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

I only recently watched Guardians of the Galaxy because a coworker whose opinions I hold in high regard recommended it. I enjoyed it very much and thought it would make a fun video game. Lo and behold, there is one! So I bought it and have been playing that when work and school allow.

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

I haven’t played too deep into it, only gotten past 2-3 boss fights, but it’s fun so far. I’m enjoying the gameplay and the music. The story is pretty much the same flavor as the movie.

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

Supposedly shampooing every day strips your hair of natural oils so many people will not wash their hair at all on some days or just wash with conditioner aka “cowash.”

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

This thread has made me realize how thorough I am about washing. I use a washcloth and the first things I scrub are the backs of my ears and neck, then arms, pits, torso, back, legs, tops of feet, then for last I do butt, crotch, bottoms of feet and between my toes. Then I ditch the washcloth and with just my hands I wash my bellybutton and privates.

So I guess if I missed anything it would be between my fingers and the backs of my hands.

cheesymoonshadow,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

That was great. Thanks for mentioning it and OP for linking. Made my day.

Many years ago there was a newscaster in southern California whose last name was Beard but he didn’t have a beard. I forget his first name but let’s say it was Gary. My husband and I called him Gary “I don’t have a beard because my last name is Beard” Beard and we thought it was the funniest thing.
